RUN NO. 2418 MENTIRI LINK 23DEC14

RUN NO. 2418
DATE: 23DEC2014 (XMAS RUN)
HARES: HOTLIPS/DEBBIE

It was a  Christmas Eve before Christmas Eve where two of our hens had laid us two different trails for all to join, the group was small but split into two with horns for security brought by Alison and Hash Hound. A smaller trail up the mountain and steep down over some logs and through some dirt to find the road to the sing out board. With Alison's help Glamour made it out safe and sound and finished the entire short run, what an accomplishment.

The long route brought us op that mountain as well, but down and around over the ridge through the monkeys and down the slopes back to the water pools where nice juice boxes were left for those thirsty....aka rubbish darn them.
The sisters Pang has joined us on both runs and came shortly trotting from the jungle so off we went to Hot Lips' Xmas stall where wonderful food came to table from all.

A bag filling up with secret Santa gifts and a night ready to start.

Christmas songs were played, mulled wine kept us warm and a Christmas quiz let us into the evening. We ate our tummies full as there was loads for all, thanks ladies for your wonderful contribution. No hashit was given on the night and no announcements other than Merry Xmas to all far away and close!

HARES: HOT LIPS/HASHHOUND

Well, what can one say? It was another lovely day for our run at Kapok Kanan.
A quiet run once again as lots have left us to celebrate all over the world. None the less, we still had a great time.

The run went well. There was a sneaky first back check and a small trail I had never encountered before which took us in a roundabout way to the ridge. Unfortunately a few of us got bitten by some bities. They weren't hornets or wasps as they didn't buzz but boy did they sting. Fortunately they weren't as long lasting in pain as the hornets and no first aid needed to be administered and all ended well.
Its so pretty on this run and the views never disappoint. I actually saw a beautiful eagle when driving down the kapok Kanan road. Its so good to still see the wildlife in the built up areas.

Afterwards we had the most laid back shout up of all time. We all sat down in our chairs... JM and all. We all toasted my 400th run and exchanged stories of when we joined the hash. No grievences emerged and no hash shit given. We do have someone in mind though for this next xmas run so I wont spoil it for the recipient! Hee hee. We had some yummy rotis followed by mince pies and white chocolate cake. All washed down with a special liquid refreshment. Xmas music again in the background.

HARES: PEE WEE/ TIFF

It was another hot, humid day in paradise but that didn't put off the few of us who were left these xmas holidays. We gathered at Pee Wee's house and braced ourselves for the upcoming hill we knew was imminent.

It was a good workout. We went up, up and up! Then down, down, down.

The breeze and views worth it at the top. The first check was sneaky but after that all was straight forward. A couple of hashers returned looking very seasoned and muddy. Otherwise all went well with no problems.

No hash shit dealt or news/announcements conveyed.

Afterwards we were given a real treat of curry and mulled wine by Pee Wee and Tiffany. Then the xmas music was played so we all left in a very festive mood. What a lovely run to start off the festive season. Thank you so much!!!

HARES: DIZZY/LASSIE

So we’re in the festive season and our hash is a wee bit quiet compared to usual. But there were plenty of us nonetheless. Those of us who have hashed for a while recognised Dizzy’s tactics  We did the same run last time. So up the hill the FRBs went, canny hashers such as myself thought, ‘stuff that, there’ll be a check there, I know where the on-paper will be.’ Indeed I was correct and the on-paper was down the road. I knew paper would go up the hill at Bukit Serdang, but it wasn’t very well laid so I had re-lay a lot so hashers could see where it was going. So…...upupupupupupupupupupupupup, along, upupupupu, along, upupupupupupup, DOWN and down we went very carefully until we hit the road again.

Back at Dizzy’s we had a lovely pasta dinner  Great shout up. Ready for next week’s run which will be very similar, just the next ridge along  on on xx

RUN NO. 2414
DATE: 25 NOV 2014
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: ALISON/CHERYL/THE RECRUITER/BLACK BEAUTY

The beginning of the year and we start with the dependable Diplo.
Slightly different this time, down the hill and turn left, over the stream and up the other side and then sort of keep right. Anyway that is how it seemed to me, and by that time I was puffing a bit and seeing double, which might be the reason that I missed the trail. Yes I know, it is hard to believe that at this stage I was the front of the back runners, but girls, I was rather concerned because the checks were not picked up and laid through properly. Hence at the back end there was a bit of confusion.  No harm done, but front runners, please check your hash rules.

As you know, I was reminded of just that at the shout up, for which I received First Hash Shit of the Year Award.

At the shout up we had two new hashers and our new JM's officiating for the first time. Most importantly the hash was a charity run for a UK hospice in Yorkshire, UK, in commemoration of Alison's Mother. I certainly hope we managed to bump up the donation to the hospice, and on everyone's behalf, I would like to thank Alison and the hospice for our Star Pins, which are particularly appropriate at this time of year.

Merry Christmas to all our lovely hash friends.

Most runs laid - winner and close runner up

Most hashits

Best dressed!

Out going JMs Hashhound and Wonderwoman!

Wonderwoman started you off on the run which was a fast ‘find the lost hasher’ event – the closest one of our committee admitted that she would come to a live run! Spicing up the run were the roving lost hashers that you found in nooks and crannies, cafes, playgrounds, trees, rocks, and beaches. For some ladies hashers, it was a case of ‘now you see her, now you don’t’, and that lost hasher who had the orange bands isn’t actually where we saw her last time – wherever did she go? After a bit of searching up and down the reserve, most of you did find who you needed to and despite some frustration, in the right order!

Just to remind ourselves – you needed to collect the finger bands IN THE RIGHT ORDER – (many thanks to Smurf, Recruiter,Trailblazer, Hash Hound,Squeak) and last but most importantly, to find your orange ping-pong ball from Twinkle Toes in order to claim your Founders Day 2014 goodies!

And what goodies there were – a very stylish grey/pink combination Founders Day shirt and your very own named chair. Hoorah! The Brunei Hash Hens gifts are truly stylish and functional. We will all put those chairs and shirts to good use in the coming year I am sure :->

After a shower and change, you transformed yourselves into ‘the singing Sisters’ - I will follow him…., Iron Man, angels, fairies, evil queens, Marj Simpson, dancing girls, ninjas, superhero’s – Iron Man, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman and all manner of fantastical figments from our imagination (and perceptions of real life!!). Fun was had with the table quiz –guess the hasher/event over the 2014 year and the Pop Culture Quiz – that was pushing the limits for some of us! Great punch, music (thanks to Martin), dressups and prizes for best dressed (Buttercup) and runners up, great entertainment – what a cracker of a night.

Many thanks to our outgoing GM, JMs and Mismanagement Committee for their hard work and commitment to us throughout the year and a warm welcome to the 2014/2015 GM – Black Beauty, JMs – Twinkle Toes and Squeak, and the full incoming Mismanagement Committee. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead with many great runs! On On……..

SITE: TANJ BUNUT KANAN - 50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION RUN
HARE: BUNNY GIRL

How to sum up the run – MUD, MUD AND MORE MUD! If mud is good for your skin then my feet and ankles are beautiful!

Only a few hens braved the traffic to cross town over to Bunny girl’s house but well worth the trip. The run had the usual ups and downs with water crossings, mud and a treat at the top of the hill - great sunset views. Only 4 km long so everyone got out safely. Thanks to Bunny Girl and her husband for laying a lovely but muddy trail.

We, (JM’s) conducted a laid back shout up, from our comfy seats at the bar, whilst enjoying a little G&T to celebrate Bunny Girl’s birthday. Ryvita (who was introduced to hash by Bunny Girl) celebrate 250 runs. Dani escaped again before being welcomed as a new member.

Alison reminded us that the 16th is this weekend. So please visit her house to partake of coffee and cake, buy some goodies and help a good cause. The run after Founder’s night is also in aid of the hospice with gifts and prizes - another opportunity to donate. Please bring your cash!!!

Next week’s run is short but fun – TwinkleToes mentioned ping pong balls and loom bands - the mind begins to wander!!! At least we are not in Thailand. Run starts at 5.15 no need for hash shoes - trainers will do. Welcome drinks, gifts and so on will be ready for you upon your return. Then it is off to the changing rooms to transform yourselves into your costume to join our Fantasy kingdom, with Psycho talking about Pom Poms I’m wondering whose fantasy we are in.

The rain had been heavy the night before the Run so we knew it was likely to be a muddy one and it was still threatening more rain when we signed in so when we were told it was going to be a 5km run and we would need torches most of us decided to play safe and do first check and out! We were right to do so as it was so muddy and slippery in the jungle we were all struggling to stay upright! That was without any green or blue! A few of us didn’t even make first check but turned back after 30 mins while others tried to reach first check before turning back. It seems that a few managed to do the whole run although no one claimed the checks as it appeared to be a team effort! Anyway although it was dark when we got out we all did get out and in one piece! Sid left some cute on on feet biscuits for us at the boards which were a treat!

As usual we all then proceeded to make ourselves comfortable for the shout up but then the rain came so we all had to get very cosy under Mrs Pingu’s house which made for an intimate shout up! I do think a thank you is due to Mrs Pingu for her hospitality!

The shout up started and the Hares and Horns were duly thanked and Jane was made a new member! Hoorah!

Then it was the turn of the Celebrating Hashers. There were loads of them with more than 2000 runs between them!

Tina with 400 Runs, Sid with 600 Runs , Trailblazer with 600 Runs , Survivor with 450 Runs , Duchess of Cambridge with 100 Runs and the 50 Run first award for The Recruiter. Well done all of you!

Novembers Birthdays babes which included me [see next week!] were brought up for a song and some cake. The poor JM’S had to do yet another renaming so Nippon San is now something else but I really can’t remember what………..

Hash shit was given and poor Dizzy fresh back from holidays got it again………..although shared with Smurf! As it was still raining the honoured ones simply went out for a soak ……a very gentle hash shit if I may say so!

Hashit for Dizzy and Smurf with JM Wonder Woman

Post shout up we dined on some scrummy chicken, vege pizza and salad which we all enjoyed thoroughly so thank you hares. It was still raining at this point so there was nothing we could do but stay cosy and drink a little more………………

Down in the valleys of Lucky Gardens

With clear skies and a cool breeze

Off went the hens with a toot of the horn

Following a marked trail until it splits

Do you take a short trail? Or a long?

A little too late they realize…. Something is wrong here

Dun dun dunnnnnn……

Check after check…..

Keeping their eyes on the paper

and soon enough

Someone realizes the paper is missing

Are they lost? Are they going the wrong way?

Dark clouds covering what should have been a lovely sunset

The sound of Hash Hound can be heard through the jungle

Little did the hens know…. The Ripper is among them

And waiting so patiently back at the house is a Psycho

So many ideas of what had happened with the trail

As all were accounted for and the shout up commenced

Merriment continues…. But there is a worrying feeling

Thunder and lightning and with it a storm

This was the moment ….. Hunger and thirst

And as one, they shivered …. Cold… wet….

Huddling close for warmth

Tonight is the night…

Tonight is when the psycho will be loose

Tonight is when they will all scream…

And Oh did they scream…..

They screamed ……….. On On!!!!!

You will be looking for zombies

There will be prizes for zombies found

RUN NO. 2408
DATE: 14OCT2014
SITE: MENTERI LINK
HARES: TRAILBLAZER/RIPPER

Another humid Tuesday afternoon as the hens gathered together on the side of the Mentiri Highway at the Salambigar run site for this year’s Cancer Run. The site was chosen to honour our own Ladies Hash cancer survivor GI Jane, who although now departed from Brunei’s fair shores, marked the trails in this area using coloured ribbons for the use of hashers, ISB students and other jungle walkers.

It wasn’t long before the hens were off, with the newly christened Itchy Feet taking on front horn and Twinkletoes on back horn. Our intrepid flock set off upwards following the route set by the hares Trailblazer and Ripper. Up, down, up, up, round and round, up and up – the usual Salambigar scenario. As I accompanied Twinkletoes at the rear I’m afraid I don’t know who found the checks (my apologies to those concerned) but it was an enjoyable trail and a good workout after a day in the office. We came out just after dark and after a reviving beverage, staggered off to our cars for the short drive around the block to Simpang 420 Jalan Muara where Tina kindly hosted the shout-up.

Looking pretty in pink, the hens sat back and enjoyed a fun evening. We had the awards from the OAP (Old Aged Pensioners) run a couple of weeks earlier – all suitable items for ladies of ‘advanced years’! There were five October birthday girls with Alice’s birthday falling on the actual day. Aladdin’s Dream had worn the bells during the run and she was sadly farewelled after completing 50 runs. Toni(?) was a first time guest from Glasgow brought along by Iron Woman. The JM’s shared the good news that all committee positions have been filled for the coming year. Many thanks to those who have signed up – without you the hash would not be able to exist. Alison requested jam jars and donations for the tombola event at her upcoming charity Craft Fair ($5 entry fee on the 16th November). $5 will also buy you a local cookbook created by SM Berakas students. If you like silver, there is a sale by John Ng(?) on 2nd November in the apartments next to Mabohai Supasave. For the musically inclined, Serenai Singers are performing at Freshco in November – see Cheryl for details.

The shout-up finished with some hash shit being doled out for various sins mainly to do with forgetting things. We were then invited to partake of a delicious meal by our lovely hares. I recall munching on pau and salad followed by ice-cream – nom, nom, nom! All in all a great night with great friends and all for a great cause.

Next week’s run is the last run being laid by Buttercup although she will still be here until the end of November and of course will be held at Spg 462-28 Jalan Muara. Walkers please follow the shorter course as the nights are getting dark very quickly at the moment and we want to make sure everyone gets out safely and in good time. ON ON!!!

A leisurely drive to site from the office (only five minutes away – such luxury) and found a hive of activity at the site of the new carpark once the highway goes thru. Tent was at usual site and being a frequent visitor to the site with H4 was able to drive right up close to the tent on the other side of the road away from the hustle and bustle of trucks moving., and no fear of being hit by one of them.

JM Wonderwoman was rustling up some whistles for the horns as JM Hash Hound with the kit was no way in sight as 5.15 approached.  Soon she was seen running up and all back to normal with horns distributed, and hens moving the signs closer to the tent and safely in through the work site away from the moving trucks.  A muddy track having had heavy rain the previous evening and on observing the accommodation being built for the workers look liked a long stay was in store in the construction of the carpark.  Hopefully it will still be ok to be able to start runs from this entry once the highway is finished.  Up the usual track and with hens saying that it was only hilly at the beginning... was wondering if I had gone off paper when the hilly bit went on and on and on. Sorry did not check who found the checks as it only dawned on me that I was the only hare there much later in the evening (in fact after the shout up) to do all the usual chores required: i.e. write run report, pick up the signs, take the sign in board, collect the first check paper! Thanks JM Wonderwoman for taking the sign in board., Smurf for waiting at the traffic lights and guarding our cars while I ran and picked up the last sign at 8.30 p.m. – yes what an early night!

After first check we followed the stream and weaved round the well laid paper pretty trails.  Nippon San being one of the last in caught up and after a short chat was off to catch up with the rest of the group.  I could occasionally hear some chatting in front but never caught up till nearly out by the road.

Shout up was the usual thanking of hares, Peahen with Peewee standing in and Jeannie (looking better having been diagnosed with dengue fever) was down-downed and thanked.  Food of vege curry and roti followed and hashit given to misdemeanours past... what honest hens we have – Duchess of Cambridge for not picking up her keys last week, Mrs Pingu for forgetting the crockery/cutlery basket for weeks and I am sure there was one other whom I could not identify even from the photos!

A good night albeit home quite early! Last to leave Smurf PeeWee and yours truly.

Hare retiring from Work!

Glamour looking great at the out with JM Hash Hound

We arrived at the run and on site in pretty good time. Ah Diplo, how we love thee. We received a few instructions as this was indeed Alison’s retirement run! We were to look out for anything to do with old age, and were kindly told that should our legs not be feeling great, that there may be a shorter version of events.

The horn sounded and off we went, across the moonscape and into the jungle down a fairly steep incline. We took in some lovely classic Diplo trails, a few undulations and then first check, I cant quite remember who found it, but the paper was called and laid through and off we went again. I think it was after first check that we had the opportunity to cut out, so if a short run was what you fancied, a short run was what you could have! An excellent idea.

More lovely trails took us back the opposite way to which we had come in. We came up a little incline to find a very confused Nippon San, completely lost. A few more runs in Diplo and she’ll recognise the beginnings of Bill’s Ridge for sure. There was a sign saying ‘Follow the track out if you’ve had enough‘ (or words to that effect) with an arrow pointing up towards Bill’s Ridge, or the paper continued in the opposite direction if we fancied a longer run.

Gluttons for punishment that we are, the rest of us opted for the longer run, Nippon San was back on track! The hares fitted a few more hills in there for us, I was almost regretting the longer option, then at the last check we hit a mini problem, ‘on‘ paper was found but going both ways, luckily Velma was coming in for a short walk and we chanced upon her, she assured us we were on the in-trail, so a bit of hash craft from the Iron lady and we all trotted out on the in-trail. Not quite what it should have been, but as near as damn it! And at least we knew everyone would come out safely.
The group after the mammoth "Naming" session
Hashit candidates looking subdued just before the cold water hit them!

Thank you hares for a run with options - something for everyone. A mammoth shout up ensued, a few more hashers got their names, one had a name change, a few FTGs introduced themselves, a new member was welcomed, the Hashit was duly awarded x3, and we finally got to eat - a delicious chilli, thanks Hares. Such was the busy nature of the shout up, we didn’t get to find out what was to happen with the pictures………..to be continued……….

RUN NO. 2405 KAPOK KANAN 23 SEP 2014

RUN NO. 2405
DATE: 23 SEP 2014
SITE: KAPOK KANAN
HARES: SQUEAK/TWINKLE TOES AND ROSALIND

Well here we are again, another Tuesday, another hash! But there’s a slight difference coming my way …

Hares TT/Rosalind/Squeak

Oh bliss, as of this Tuesday no more mad rush from RIPAS Hospital to a hash site, no more horrendous traffic queues just trying to leave the staff car park, no more changing at the side of a road, no more worry about getting up on a Wednesday morning!!! The life of leisure awaits and I can’t wait, but before this I have to report for you my last hash as a working lady and of course this follows an all too familiar pattern – woops not hydrated as no time to drink at work, caught up in traffic, late to site (although this week at least I wasn’t late as it was school holidays), changing at the side of the road but as my other half keeps saying to me “not for much longer!!”……. Hurrah

Just before we all set off we were advised that the hares had communicated with the JM with a cryptic message about the out trail not being the out trail and first check yellow paper and second check pink paper and maybe even something else was said but it was lost in translation! 5.15pm saw the few hashers, 29 I believe setting off from the usual car park of Kapok Kanan, led by Ryvitta on front horn and Peahen on back horn.

It’s school hols and our numbers have reduced but the determined and none holidaying hashers have turned up for this last minute stand in hash very kindly organized by Squeak and Twinkle Toes again. Well done ladies and anybody else who hasn’t laid a run yet this year get yourselves sorted and sign up to lay a hash!!!!! See Trailblazer

It’s up and up we all know it is, but which way up and which way down today?

But no the hares have added a twist to the usual Serasa hill run after the tarmac hill we head straight on into the grasses, missing the cement steps and pondok, is it first check but no sound of calling is heard by myself and my co-hare, so it’s on into the MUD!!!! Serasa Hill runs are usually reasonable free from mud as little water can collect on it’s slopes!! But today those Hares have found some very suspiciously smelling pools of it just for us. Floating weeds/grass and more muddy pools as we continue on the flat trail but it has to go up at some stage. Walking along I’m reminded of the men’s hash spotting crocodiles along here somewhere so we kept our eyes scanning the vegetation but spotted no more than a lizard…. Thank goodness.

First check was at the end of the flat part of the run and was found by Aladdin’s Dream

From first check to the out I am reliable informed that it was up and up although one hen said that this route up was more gradual than the usual route??!! Any other opinions? Unfortunately as myself and Cheryl started up the hill I got spasm/cramps in my upper thigh … it’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it so we encouraged those that passed us to continue on as we turned back to re-negotiate the MUD!!

From the top of the ridge the hash was tempted by the hares to go looking for the on-trail over the other side but I believe Mrs Pingu promptly found the on-on at second check and lead the hens safely back down off the ridge from the view of the bay, back to the cement steps and bridges that lead down to the car park again. Everyone safely out or were they?

Miss Goody two shoes and her guest (Maggie) were last out using torch and phone light to negotiate the steps and final down stretch of the run- well done ladies and it didn’t put the guest off either!!

Guest Maggie
The shout-up was casually controlled by our hard working JM Hash Hound with a burning chilli induced mouth (thanks to Ready Mix), and followed the usual format …… Thank you hares, guests, announcements – remember if you want homemade pasta or pizza go to the new stall at Times Square, entertainment and hashit. REMEMBER sign up early to be a member of the best mismanagement team in Brunei.

Guests: Maggie – from Tutong originally welcome, welcome, welcome

Entertainment: None

Hashit: someone was left in the jungle as she forgot to sign out!!! (INGRID... I believe) but I’m sorry I can’t remember your name maybe Hash words can help me out? Well taken and superbly given by our JM

Thank you ladies for Serasa hill, lovely delicious On-On and a great night’s hashing

So this weeks run as advertised is an OAP- retirement run, sorry I have to keep repeating it…. I’m a lady of leisure!!!! as I just can’t believe it has actually happened. Well at least I’m retiring from active employment although I don’t feel like an OAP just yet. Back to our favourite hash site Upper Diplo and the run will have all the usual components of a Diplo hash ….. trails, jungle, rivers, ups and downs, follow the instructions if you’re feeling your age and look out for some of the useful aids for the ageing hasher on the way – please if you find one bring it out with you but leave the rest for others to find.

On-On and enjoy

RUN NO. 2404 DIPLO 16SEP2014

RUN NO. 2404
DATE: 16 SEP 2014
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: BLACK BEAUTY/MS GOODY TWO SHOES/CJ

Twas the night before Wednesday,
And all through the trees,
Ladies dashed as they hashed,
All praying for ease.

A bark rang out in the night,
And, brown, stout and squeamish,
Along came a short wee fellow,
Affectionately known as Beamish.

He’d escaped the tender clutches
Of his owner hare,
And had hotfooted it into the night,
Who knows where?

But the show must go on,
So shout-up begun,
With the typical slurs,
Joviality and fun.

A new member we gained,
A triathlete, no jest,
She’ll make a good front-runner
And give Speedy Gonzales a rest!

The calls for hashit
Were for rule-breakers 3.
A bucket of ice-water thrown
With relish by Pee Wee.

And to top it all off,
Four were then named,
By the ladies in black.
(The JM’s are to be blamed!)

‘Hounds Mate’ and ‘Aladdins Dream’
For Wendy and Jeannie.
‘Nippon San’ and ‘Iron Woman”
Were given to Chi and Zoe.

Some prizes were given,
(I got a nice purple cup),
“On-on” was called,
Shout-up was wrapped up.

But the night wasn’t over,
There was food to be had,
And blue and green tins,
To help us feel glad …

That we are all part of
The Brunei Ladies Hash,
A place for some exercise
And one heck of a bash!

Next week, Kg Kapok Kanan,
The great hill of Serasa.
So “On-on” my friends,
Aren’t you glad you’re a hasher!

RUN NO. 2403 LOWER DIPLO 9 SEP 2014

RUN NO. 2403
DATE: 9 SEP 2014
SITE: LOWER DIPLO
HARES: MRS PINGU/BUNNY GIRL

Days come and go and this time another hash has came and gone…

Hash ladies looked more rev up than ever and this time in Lower Diplo. Before the action starts hashers gather up to chat and certainly it go on forever. What is more blood pumping than climbing tapped mountains, chatting and being with lovely ladies at Tuesday night? Actually hashing answers that question. Wink!

As the clock stroked 5:15 ladies began to determine their speed some along with front-runners dashed while some had their pace while walking. No matter the speed is the crucial element is the enjoyment.

So it began the steps to jungle. We passed a series of house enclosed with fence and a side of deep and green forest. Along the chitchat a drain was mistaken to be a hole. Haha! I thought it was funny realising that I shouted it too. We focus on what we can see while talking with one another and warning the next lady to watch out for a “hole” or something. That is some multitasking ability no doubt about it. An open trail revealed in our eyes with white paper laid in it. It was flat with leaves as usual then little ups and downs. The jungle was filled with robust trees and the soil looks full of life. I simply love the wind and the way it brushed my face with sweet and refreshing feeling. We overcame hills and rivers that made me leap with joy because I’ve made it! Hashers seem fast as the next thing I knew Jances found the first check. Afterwards Jances and Kristin found the second check. The third check as off to another route and I was conquering hills at the time so it just passed me. The run was fascinating that I did not thought it was 4 km long.

There were 2 guests who came and we feasted with Laksa. It was perfect for hungry hashers and daring ladies with spicy appetite.

Everybody had a great time being with one another and did not mind the mosquitoes biting as well. I hope for another run like this or maybe even better.

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear JM, Happy Birthday to you! “ Yes last week was all about celebrating the September birthdays and as a special gift to us all, our JM Hash Hound for her birthday gave us a run.

We had run at this site recently, but still the jungle was gorgeous, there were plenty of hills and some interesting river crossings . As you would expect..it was a good length run, with front runners taking an hour and others taking a bit longer. It was a lollipop i.e. the in is the out “Lolly Pop Lolly Pop …ooh lolly lolly pop! ” and a sneaky back check meant that some of us late comers were soon with the front runners for the second check. Mmm could the 2nd check be another back check..50-50 chance of being right..so I checked ahead, to be that 50% of wrong.

By now there were a handful of front runners on the trail, coming out at one of the new buildings . Little did the hare know that the third check was in exactly the same spot as last time; because on the last run at this site, the front horn had taken them out on old paper and so only a handful of us had done the full run. Chuckling to myself, I found 3rd check pretty quickly and we were soon to be on the out trail, back on the road and up the hill to the On On site. At this point I had to dash (sorry it was Daniella’s 10th birthday) so now the story I have to tell is one that has been told to me.

It seems like one of our new hashers missed the turning back into the jungle from the new building..trampled on paper seemed to have disappeared and off they went (who knows where off paper) “We’re on the road to nowhere”. Hares and hashers went in to find her and she was out safely in the end.

The shout up was eventful, with some new guests, lovely food was catered from Maha Osai Restaurant in Berakas (673 233876). Hash-it was awarded for hashers not looking after their guests properly and a fun evening was had by all.

Three tips from tonights run:

Always stay on paper..if you realise you are not on anymore, back track until you find the paper.
  1. When laying a hash – lay paper both on the floor and in the trees
  2. When signing in a guest – make sure that they stay with you.

RUN NO. 2401
DATE: 26AUG2014 - A SUMMER FETE
SITE: MENTERI LINK
FRONT HORN: CHI    BACK HORN: BIONIC BUNNY
All decked out at Black Beauty's parlour

As expected, the British run at Mentiri on Tuesday was delightful. At 5:15 the hashers gathered by the roadside, awaiting the call to venture into the depths of the jungle along the trail of white paper. I was a bit late joining the ladies as I sorted out the water but it wasn’t long before I caught up to the back walkers on the first hill.

The walk/jog through the jungle was beautiful and peaceful, complete with the sounds of the hash: “On on!” and “Checking!” First check was found by Hash Hound who led the ladies in what appeared to be a lollipop trail. Then, not far from the in-paper, a second check was laid, causing confusion amongst the hashers. Some ladies decided to follow the in-paper out whereas others, such as Speedy Gonzales, didn’t want to give up and she found the second check. Back at the on-on, it was discovered that Pee-Wee had heard the front runners then panicked and dropped the second check a mere 10 metres from the in-paper. Despite the confusion, it was a quick but enjoyable run.

After the run, the ladies all gathered at Black Beauty’s house for the celebrations which were . There were prizes to be won through all sorts of games and raffles such as tombola, pin the tail on the elephant, and guess the weight of the cake, the number of lollies in the jar or the name of the panda (which turned out to be Flame…strange name for a panda!) Then it was Irish Bingo, where you had to sit down if any number on your bingo ticket was called (I’m sure it was rigged!)

The official opening

Many thanks to the Brits for being wonderful hares and also to the horns – front horn, Chi and back horn, Bionic Bunny. We were happy to welcome some first time guests, not all of whom I remember names but we hope they will be back for future runs.

Hash-shit was given out to Zoe for leaving her keys at the run last week and so Mrs Pingu and I joined her as part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in order to raise awareness. Hash Hound so kindly explained to everyone how the challenge started and what ALS is.

We also had a lengthy “next week’s run” announcement from Hash Hound. The run is at Lucky Gardens, starting and ending at the abode of myself and the Duchess of Cambridge. It also happens to be Hash Hound’s birthday on the day so don’t forget to wish her a happy birthday!

The evening ended with some lovely British food and special tea. Another big thank you to the Brits for a wonderful evening!

RUN NO. 2400 DIPLO 19AUG2014

RUN NO. 2400
DATE: 19 AUG 2014
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: PSYCHO/RIPPER

I’ve pretty much spent the last week in the jungle, and as a result of this am finding it difficult to recall last week’s run……….it’s slowly coming back to me, let’s see what pops into my head.

Hash Hound took front horn and led us off at 5.15. Off we trotted, up Bill’s Ridge, a nice easy start to a run. I fail to recall anything about first check, other than that it was found and the paper was laid through.

Second check however, did its job and brought us all back together, a false on-call was made, but Wonder Woman was convinced it was a back check and in the opposite direction to where the false call was made from. Insider info? Ha, I was with her and agreed with her as we knew it wasn’t a long run and the other call was taking us away from the on-site, we used our hash brains and found the proper on-paper. I recognised where we were, as did Sid, the run bore some similarities to an H4 run a couple of weeks ago.

So third check was a no brainer, the paper was out in the open at the bottom the valley, all we had to do was follow the clear footprints the hares had kindly left for us.

On we went, to find another sneaky 4th check, again it was fairly straight forward, either up the hill - which was not a good prospect as it was rather boggy, or on to the right. In we went to join the out trail, a gentle up up up and we popped out almost in the tent where we were greeted with a lovely tropical refreshment. Sarongs were the order of the day, and every single hasher managed to wear one.

We had a great shout up, a lovely little sing-song and a lovely gift, topped off by great homemade makan. Thank you committee for another great run to mark our 2400th run milestone. We hope you enjoy tonight’s run, suitably short so you can enjoy all the British girls have to offer! On on

First hash back after the holidays and late as usual, the traffic on Jln Muara from the roundabout to the Simpang seemed to be busier than ever. I felt a bit comforted when I saw others going in late but still had to make the decision of whether to go all the way round or just to first check.
The words said it was a lollip so I joined Ripper and in we ran with the pre-conceived idea that the checks would most likely be laid through and we could go round quickly.  The rain kept us cool which was what I needed after 5 weeks in the UK and we soon came to the first set of yellow paper where yes.. the first check was laid through.
Still no sign of any other hashers so we went on and on, in and up and down; we ran until we came to the second check (we knew this because there was another set of yellow paper), it was already getting dark and so we followed what we thought was the on-paper.
Next we heard some other hashers..pleased to have finally caught up, we called back, to be told by Ready Mix…’I think we are on old paper’.  Getting darker by the minute, we went back to the second check and we followed the alternative trail, only to find a lovely set of freshly laid white paper waiting patiently on the floor to be found.

By now there was a core group of us…Ready Mix, Trailblazer, Ripper, Never Wrong, Rosalind (who was later welcomed as a new member), CJ ( Back horn) and yours truly so we stuck together and laid the paper through.  The rain was making it quite dark and by the time we reached third check it was late already.

Still, with nearly two weeks since the first day of Raya, there was some natural light as well as a handful of torches, where we had to guess which of the many trails would lead to the out trail.  2nd try lucky, and we were on the on-paper, bringing us to the familiar housing and the start of the lollipop.

Back at the On-On Site, I am sure the hares were relieved to see and hear us singing up the road, with only our group being successful in completing the hash properly.  Hash Hound and the rest of the coup had been led out on old paper to an alternative Simpang.

The shout up was light hearted and there were several calls for hashit – could we give Alice in Wonderland who had signed in and out under the wrong name, crossed it through and reticked herself? Could we give it to Hash Hound as front horn for leading the coup on to old paper? Could we give it to all the hashers that insisted the old paper was the correct paper?  We must have been feeling all warm and fuzzy as no-one was given the hash it but Possum claimed the empty bucket and chuck for next week – so beware!
Shout up was followed up with scrummy pasta and garlic bread – just the carbo loading needed after a dark wet run – thank you ladies.
Notices given included – advertising the Kids Hash at Diplo 24th August and next weeks run – wear a sarong - to celebrate ladies hash' 2400 runs.

On the hunt for white paper they say

In a flock they clucked
Up hills and down
Over logs and on ridges
They clucked. What a sound

Checks were found
Wonderwoman, Hotlips and Somebody
And something about bells
That were passed along as well

The water was inviting
Tho nobody bathed
For it could have been pissed in
By cocks, pigs or men

A drinks station was up
Free drinks to all
Nothing beats a free bar
Other than free food eat till you fall

The run report was short
So I added it on
Always good to be back
To the hash where one belongs

So that's the report
Or the gist of it
So C U N T
Hopefully you get it

A very small group o exactly 15 hens gathered for the run and no sign of a tent.

Off we went after Hash Hound on the front horn, down the valley and along the stream.  We soon came across a tree fall and first check.  Trailblazer went on ahead while others went back and across and "on back" found by Sue was called.

More pretty trails with lots of old paper around and we were careful to ensure we were on fresh paper although there had been a bit of a downpour earlier in the afternoon after the hares had laid the paper in the morning. Along the stream we went and 2nd check was called by Jances with her guest (not first time) in tow.

As promised there was only one sort of an up and were all out in about 40 minutes. A good workout but still no tent in sight.  Duchess of Cambridge had invited the hash to have the onon at her house and after a quick decision by JM Hash Hound and all out, we moved to Spg 462.  Shout up was quick and easy with no guest, no hashit, only a reminder that hash relay was on Sunday with signing on starting at 10.30 a.m. and the first leg at 12 noon.

We then feasted n smoked chicken with salads and cheese and homemade mango chutney. Thank you hares for the grub, and a welcome return to laying of many more runs by Black Beauty.  Most left early and some managed to stay till around 10 p.m.!

With our GM and one JM out of town plus the other JM homebound with pharyngitis it looked to be a different experience to the usual at a newly opened site.

Off everyone went with no horns but Tiffany leading the pack as "front horn" again.  I missed who found first check but I think it was Readymix. My whole time in the jungle I kept thinking how nice it would be for kids hash.  We saw lots of newly planted baby trees in there, not too many "up's" but some tricky "down's".

Tiffany found the second check on her own as she was way ahead of the rest of the pack. A nice, short trail for the small pack of 17 hens that turned up that day.  Mangoes were harvested from Chi's tree while waiting for the last lady hashers to come out of the jungle and a loud cheer was given when they appeared.

shout up was led by beloved Psycho who has made a special appearance in the past couple of weeks. We downed the hares, no hashit, no new members, no guests.  Chi asked if anyone would feed her pets while she was away and Buttercup responded an affirmative.  Delicious meatballs and tuna sushi for dinner filled our happy bellies *burp".

Next week's run is at good old Diplo! Most likely will be the 1st day of raya so stay safe on the roads and watch those cars overflowing with kids! (They still fascinate me even if I have lived here most of my life - how many kids can you pack in a tiny car?!!)

Hope to see more hens back the following week.... maybe a few of us recovering after hash relay on the Sunday before that.

As the nation took a break for His Majesty's age advancement
celebration, a good number of us found ourselves trundling up vertical
hills at Diplo. Always a favourite site, the hares (Alison, Cheryl and
Trialblazer) did not let us down with grueling ups and downs, some
water and mud action and a total of 3 check points to keep the virgin
front horn (Tiffany) busy.

First check was found by Ripper whilst the second one took a lot
longer with a couple of false 'On on paper' calls, causing front horn
to pick up check paper and head back to 'checking from here' location
again and again. Second check was eventually found taking us on a loop
back. When we thought that we were close to being out, there was
another check to delay the refreshing sensation of ice cold 100 plus
gushing down our throats. It was fortunately still light as we came
out. All of us enjoyed a very lovely run especially our glutes!

Wonder woman began On-on by thanking the hares (Alison, Cheryl and
Trialblazer), virgin front horn (Tiffany) and seasoned back horn
(Alice in Wonderland). Two first time guests were welcomed : Adeylah
and Janice Pang (thus completing the four Pang sisters). There were no
new members or returning hashers. A Happy Birthday song was sung for
the Head of the Country.

For announcements, Wina has basil pots to sell. No entertainment or
Hash Shit ensued.

We were spoilt for choice for dinner with a selection of soft bread
rolls, and lovingly prepared spread and toppings. We were spoilt even
further with two different type of delectable cakes for dessert!

Not so many ladies at the hash this week. Only 26 hens signed in at DST. Wonder Woman was struggling to find a front runner to take the horn and persuaded ‘virgin’ front horn Chi to take up the challenge. She did a very good job!

We set off passed the security boys, who were foraging for fuel to make a barbecue, and along the long and winding road. First check was called and then found by Trailblazer. The run was a great opportunity to have a good chin wag while we stomped along the road.

Second check was cleverly hidden in the long grass but was found by the Duchess of Cambridge. We then walked further along the road expecting any minute to plunge into the jungle and find loads of mud and swamp but no,, onwards down the road. At one point we remembered that this was where the wasps lurked and decided to quieten down not to disturb them. Luckily there was no attack!

I believe Ready Mix found the third check. Still heading down, down the road we met the front runners coming back. They said we had to continue and read a message which was stuck to a tree. This we did and discovered Possum’s message to return to the bosom of the hash!

A very nice run ladies, everyone in, everyone out, not much mud and it was still light!

Possum served up her famous Hooch, as it was such a warm evening and then Wonder Woman began the shout up thanking the hares, Possum, Sue and Keran for the run and the forthcoming food.

Keran was also down-downed as a returning hasher.

Wonder Woman thanked Chi for an outstanding job as front horn and Alice in Wonderland similarly for back horn.

Legally Blond mentioned it was her 350th run but didn’t want to celebrate at that moment, and Dr Dolittle reminded everyone of her impending leaving party. A reminder about subs was made and Bunny Girl mentioned that the Kid’s Hash would be held at Spg. 588, Jalan Muara.

Possum gave presents to those who found, funnily enough, possums along the way! No Hash Shit this week and only one joke from Ready Mix for Hash Entertainment.

Lovely rotis and curry sauce was served followed by delicious carrot cake.

Another pleasant evening at the Ladies Hash.

Still, it’s a good site for the walkie talkies and the “Orthopaedic Hobblers” including moi. A few hills, some bracken and some slippy sliding, with some dry fast track to challenge the hashers - a quick one for the front runners who were in and out in good time. Rain stayed away which was a thank-you to the heavens. The next challenge was to find the On-On which, with great directions, was easily found.

We all gathered at Hash House and at 5.15 in the absence of either JM we set off along the road to begin the run. We climbed up a stone face and proceeded into the jungle, soon hearing the sounds of the bells being worn by Satu Lagi for her final hash.
Checks were found reasonably quickly I think because as one of the tail enders I was able to continue unstopped along the picturesque Lucky Gardens trail.
This week the ups and downs were not too taxing and it was a very pleasant run with only a few patches of mud and water.
There were no first time guests, new members or special runs but we had to bid farewell to Satu Lagi which we did in style. Madam Sin sang a clever and entertaining song  to wish her goodbye, then Satu Lagi took the hat trick for the Hash shit very humourously. Hopefully we will see her again as she is going over the border to KK.
Thank you hares for a delicious supper. I believe the hard core did well and left the site at 11.45

Part 2 by Jessie:
As usual I knew I was going to be late for hash and thought I’d only go up to 1st check. Met the hares coming out on the way in and they told me it was a short run so I could do the whole thing. Twinkle Toes told me to go in over the dirt….instead I went in through the out (as I later realized...not very good at listening to teachers, am I?). Fifteen minutes into the jungle and I could hear the ladies shouting for what I assume to be the last check, found by Satu Lagi. Finished the run in good time (before back horn!) and a lovely one it was too.

I was tasked to video Satu Lagi taking her last “down down” and she did well to show us how it was done. Unfortunately it also set her up for hashit 3 weeks in a row as her phone went off (don’t you just love children?) but she took it in style.  Sad to see a friend I have quickly grown close to leaving but I know I will definitely see her again.

Our well organized hares fed us with some lovely chili and fueled us for what ended up to be a late night for some. Look forward to having you ladies over at mine this week. Spray up against mozzies and bugs, bring a chair, swimmers and tokens.

RUN NO. 2391

HARES: SATU LAGI/RYVITA

So we were expecting a slightly longer run than is usual for our ladies hash. 5.15 and everyone was raring to go, sort of…...So off everyone went, heading into the labyrinthine run site that is Diplo. Well, what lay ahead certainly didn’t disappoint.

Never ending hills. Up, up, up……..down, down, down……..peppered with a good amount of water crossings. First check was duly found by Jeannie, so after a bit of checking, everyone was back on paper in good time, in time for me - you guessed it - up, up, up…….followed by more down, down, down and more water crossings.

I think there was a pattern emerging here. Sadly, I cannot remember who found second check, but I do know it was followed by more of the aforementioned pattern. Third check really stumped everyone, and took quite a while to find, eventually Sid found the on paper - all down to experience I reckon, well done Sid, as by this time most hashers were pretty tired and ready to be out.

It was a bit further than most people anticipated to get out, but out everyone came. It was dark by now and approaching 7 o’clock, and a merry gaggle of recreational hashers greeted the runners. Everyone was treated to a nice little coffee upon their signing out. The JMs conducted a great shout up, the hares graciously took the hashit (a variety of offences I think - too many to mention) and we were treated to a lovely laksa. And so the evening slowly faded into night, under the starry tropical skies, in an atmosphere of camaraderie and conviviality. On on.

Hares: Trailblazer/WonderWoman/Squeak/Twinkle Toes

Midsummer run came out of nowhere and we are now officially half way through our hash-ing year. The run at Kapok Kanan was an updown Serasa hill run. We went right just be-low the G&T pondok – there was a check but my apologies for not knowing who found it. Up the top and along the ridge – lovely view as always but not liking the “progress” they have made on PMB. And back down we go, myself chatting to Paula about Mulu. Just close to the out I had a big pin-prick to my thigh and back at camp learnt that I was not the only one – little wasps maybe; most had a bite each and Trailblazer was kind to dispense her ointment to everyone. Mandi, over with we headed to Dr. Dolittle’s house for “50 Shades of Hashing” – Thank you JMs and Committee for our lovely gifts of tshirts and windscreen shades. Well done to the Committee on the entertainment with very amusing lyrics - credits to Madam Sin. Delicious Afghan food was served (more garlic anyone?) and as a treat there was also some token exchanging – I love special runs! Oh and I got the hashshit with Paula for leaving my pouch onsite (Thanks again Sticky) and Paula for forgetting to sign-in!

Hash Shit!
And this week is a special run for me. It’s the last run I’m laying before the move. My co-hare is Ryvita who I have enjoyed running with (me always trying to catch up!) and also co-hared with. Our site is Diplo where I had my first run – and Squeek too. We did our first three runs together and became members on the same night – that infamous one at Mor-ley Movers!!

Don't want to bore everyone with my reminiscing so here's my summary of hashing:

Things I learned on the hash
  • how to use a parang
  • how to crush a can (thanks Smurf)
  • how to take a proper down-down (thanks Alison
  • how to handle a bucket of water with price
  • how to re-leg Cambodia
Things I will miss about the hash
  • The Bruneian jungle
  • all of you
  • the Adds (from the bottom!)
  • fact that Tuesday will be just another weeknight
  • my outdoor showers
  • the "satu lagis"
Top memorable moments
  • Laying my first run at Kapok Kanan with Smurf and Madam Sin. At the top we bumped into a group of Bomba who had come to rescue a group of Koreans one of whom had lost his glasses!
  • My relief driver ramming into PeeWee's Swifty at DST
  • Leaving my bra on Madam Sin's car window which went all the way to school the next morning!
On on Hens ...- and never turn down that satu lagi!

This week's run:
My ideal hash involving everything - there might even be a bit of emotion thrown in!
Walkie-talkies if you go in late please go as far as first check only. And walkie-talkies may need torches, more walking, less talking!

NEXT RUN: DIPLO
