RUN NO. 2231 - KOTA BATU 24 MAY 2011

RUN NO. 2231
DATE: 24 MAY 2011
SITE: KOTA BATU SPG 665
HARE S: DIZZY & SALLY
FRONT HORN: SATU LAGI BACK HORN: SQUEAK

Another Tuesday another decision, which route is best - Menteri link then Kota Batu or town then Kota Batu ?? Questions/decisions not a good finish to a tiring day all I want to do is get there!! Oh for a helicopter, a motor bike (no far too dangerous), a police escort... now we're talking BUT no not for this humble ladies hasher, instead it's the slow slog through traffic lights, road works, incredibly slow or manic drivers and that's waiting for me if only I can get out of the RIPAS staff car park!! People say RIPAS is an acronym for Rest In Peace After Surgery or Retired Indian Pakistani and Sri Lankans well I'm here to tell you for definite it's not it stands for Right Idiotic Parking Allocation System.

So, Tuesday 24th May finds me yet again breaking the speed limit to make the hash site before 5.15pm and I made it!! My co-hares were no where to be seen! Oh dear does this mean I'll have to do the run so I can write the words but then I remembered a good story never needs the whole truth to be a good tale so make it up my inner self was saying and then my truthful nature won through and tried to turn me away from such falsehood. Luckily one of my co-hares turned up at this point to help my struggle with my conscience, “We'll just give them a fairy story nobody will ever notice and I'm good at fairy stories cos I'm a primary school teacher!!” so it was decided a fairy story it was to be.

So the horn (this week being controlled by Satu Lagi) called us to start our fairy story at 5.15 precisely and oh how we wished we had the wings of a fairy as we went up and up and up will it ever stop!! Words of wisdom were heard at the top of the tarmac “Why didn't we park up here!?” hindsight is such a powerful thing. We passed Veronica taking in the view and waiting for the determined Glamour to return from the top of the hill, strike that it must have been a mountain we'd climbed at least!! We were passed by are other co-hare “So who's doing the words?” “Don't worry” came the reply, in gasps as we puffed up the hill, “the Fairies are doing them!!”

Well we climbed and we scrambled very unfairy like up the Kota Batu ridge in hope of fantastic views and some air, we got both if only our lungs would work and our hearts slow down! At last it was flattish and we could catch our breath, it was at this point when you start feeling good from your achievement and maybe there's a kick of adrenalin into the system we said lets go on it's not bad here!!! I was also reminded at this point what a fellow hasher had said before the start of the run. Someone was asking what the run could be like and it was said by a certain hasher “Probable up, along and then down!” I suggested it could be up, down, along and then up and down again!!! “No way Dizzy wont do that”, so confidence boosted we went on. Well Dizzy did do it didn't she, cos not long after the very gentle top we started going down and down and down some more, but not back down to Kota Batu but somewhere else. We slipped and slipped some more until we could hear chickens and see houses..... Jalan Subok!! we paused to think A to B that would be good!! Unfortunately A to B was not on the Hares's agenda, but razor grass was as we dropped down to muddy streams and rocky outcrops along the valley. It was pretty again and flattish so we enjoyed the breather, disturbed quite a bit of wild life and had to do a detour around an angry bee wish you front runners hadn't disturbed him so much, luckily he was on his own so a slight detour solved our problem. Breather done and slightly recovered, we knew what must be coming..... the ascent!!

Up and up and up some more until we spied Alice in Wonderland sitting contemplating the scenery, she said she was enjoying the air, I was having difficulty getting the air in so we sat on the very kindly provided seat. Quickly to be off again at the mention of photograph taking. Oh no, I've never known anyone get my good side yet on a hash photo so we'll give that a miss thanks Alice, see you at the bottom. The fairies took flight and down we went at first sedately as would be expected but at one point, we started descending far too quickly as that kindly placed rope came away from it's post and sent your 2 startled fairy story tellers hurtling downwards. As luck would have it and fairies tend to have quite a supply of luck we were able to solidly plant our dainty feet on firm ground and stop our descent phew, this hashing larks not for the faint hearted!!!! On down again at a slower more controlled rate avoiding holding ropes along the way finally saw us spy the road..... Kota Batu thank goodness and right at the road saw your fairies re-appear at the site and a welcome tipple of nectar to restore the energy supplies. Oh sorry missed back horn out think it was Squeak and as for checks well they were all laid through very well thank you to whoever found them, we believe there was 5!! A very good workout, run, wonderful food and on-on thank you Dizzy and Sally ( no longer a virgin). The shout up was quite short, no guest, no awards, a few announcements and a thank you from Cheryl for the hash's flowers and card. Misdemeanors were more common as Dizzy and Legally Blond took the hashit together for sign forgetting – one didn't sign out and one left a hash sign at last weeks run!! well taken ladies but Never Wrong you need to improve your aim!!

So to this weeks run, basically wait and see but the hills are not as high as this weeks I can assure you!!!, be careful on the road crossing and enjoy...... ON ON Alison, Cheryl and Sue

THIS WEEK: SG AKAR
Park at Water Tower Spg and cross carefully over to the other side for run.

RUN NO. 2230 - MENTERI LINK - 17 MAY 2011

RUN NO. 2230
DATE: 17 MAY 2011
SITE: MENTERI LINK
HARES: GI JANE/SID/FIONA/VELMA
FRONT HORN: MADMARG BACK HORN: TRAILBLAZER

A bijoux but hardy bunch of Hashers gathered for last weeks Rainbow Hash starting at Mentiri Link. A beautiful evening greeted us and we were all raring to go. This week we were joined by a novice Hasher and her thoughts and feelings will accompany this weeks WORDS!

Novice Hasher

After rocking up on the side of the road with my heart beating and sweaty palms, I wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for! I'd heard a lot about this Hashing lark and was keen to see what it was all about. However as 5.15 approached I was beginning to wonder whether I'd made the right decision. Certainly there was an interesting selection of fashions, perhaps white hot pants and peep toe sandals were not the best thing to wear, surely I wasn't about to get dirty or sweaty?

The Horn went right on time and the Hash started with a lung busting steep climb into the jungle!

Novice Hasher

What the dickens is this ? Is there a stair lift available?

The trail was beautifully laid, with the paper being easily identified. Within a short space of time the front runners had called the first check.

Novice Hasher

Far Far away in the distance I thought I heard someone shout decking! Oooo lovely, at last, maybe they serve light refreshments on this decking!

The check was easily found and the front pack were off again. We were subjected to some beautiful jungle with plenty of ups and downs.

Novice Hasher

More blinking ups, this is a beyond a joke, the least they could do is provide oxygen cylinders!

As we began the second half of the Hash trail, we came upon a beautiful waterfall and the temptation to get in for a dip was huge!

Novice Hasher

Well they've made me trek through jungle practically on my hands and knees, in the blistering heat, without so much as a Mr Softee van on route and now I've got to balance on a knife edge with my life in my hands. I would admire the ******* waterfall if I wasn't busy clinging to this hill side with blister ridden toes and finger nails.

The sound of the front pack was now obsolete and by all accounts the checks were found with out incidents! Even the most senior Hashers had now all sprinted past and Novice Hasher and I were left with the sound of the jungle, the squelch of our shoes and the gentle rasp of the iron lung. As the light began to fail, the end was in sight. A walk had become a steady crawl, one final stream to cross.

Novice Hasher

You are kidding me!

Just at that moment Dizzy appeared like a fairy godmother brandishing a magic potion, a slightly slimy orange concoction to revive even the most weary of jungle warriors!

Suitably restored we leapt like spring lambs over the last stream and exited the jungle. The road, the boards, civilization - we'd made it!

We later discovered that tulips had been scattered intermittently around the route and all had been successfully collected. The keen eyed were rewarded with a rainbow lolly at the On On.

So Novice Hasher what did you think of your first ever Hash ?

BLOODY BRILLIANT!

Many thanks to Mrs Doolan's special refreshments and pithy 'black testicle' joke that helped eradicate the memory of blood, sweat and tears!

RUN NO. 2229 - MORLEY MOVERS - 10 MAY 11

RUN NO. 2229
DATE: 10 MAY 2011
SITE: MORLEY MOVERS
HARES: Ryvita/Call Girl

It was a beautiful rain free evening at Morley Movers and about 40 hens had gathered for the run. There was the obligatory first hill which means when we get to the top we have to go down. Some turned back but many continued on. The checks were found and then the pond was reached. Evidence of further removal of jungle for housing projects was visible. Another hill, very steep and very wet and very, very thorny had to be climbed before descending the equally steep but less thorny trail with giant trees still standing, back across the sand to the tent.

Baskets made by indigenous people were on sale. Also on sale was a basket of hand made items, made by Psycho and Rosie, to raise money for Animal Welfare, in particular for the pups found at Diplo who were lucky to find a home with Taco and Ellen (H4).

A man was at the site, dripping with sweat. It was his lucky day too because while doing a reccy for an upcoming H4 run he got lost and it was only finding paper for the ladies run that enabled him to get out to civilisation again. He was very thankful to H3.

The shout up was short and sweet. Hares were thanked, the horns were thanked, announcements were made, no jokes were told and the hash-it was not awarded. Delicious pizzas were served. The imbibers lingered on. It was all in all a very pleasant run and evening.

NEXT RUN: Menteri Link (Rainbow run - be as colourful as you can)

RUN NO. 2228 SPG309 SUBOK 3 MAY 11

RUN NO. 2228
DATE: 3 MAY 2011
SITE: SPG 309 SUBOK
HARES: Pee Wee/Mrs Pingu

We arrived on site last Tuesday to find a merry group of hens, despite the grey skies and rain coming and going. Maybe it was the new site that put everyone in such a good mood, spg 309 Subok, mostly unknown territory for many of the hens.

We all set off happily, some got stuck already at the first "hill" (...) and turned back; but the rest of us enjoyed a lovely, lovely run. We followed our trail through some really nice jungle bits, past a huge waterfall, through some orchards and gardens and up to the top of a very big hill. Yes, there was only that ONE hill, but man was it never-ending..! The view was nice from the first part, we didn't really have to go all the way to the top, did we? :)

I for one was glad we went down those many steps in the end, and not up - and also that the rain kept away, otherwise the last bit through the open, slightly muddy area would have been more like a mud-bath!

All in all a super-duper run! Thank you Mrs Pingu and PeeWee!

This weeks on-on was a pretty straight forward affair. No first time guests although both horns were virgin horns (Erin & Sally), Legally Blond entertained us with a few good jokes, no hashit was awarded and the food was delicious laksa, mmm!

RUN NO. 2227 - DST 26APR2011

RUN NO. 2227
DATE: 26 APR 2011
SITE: DST
HARES: Squeak/Pee Wee/Jane S

Well, what a good turnout we had! And blessed by the weather we were too!

The Bride and Groom awaited their many invited quests at the alter, while the dutiful bridesmaids scattered their long green confetti and hearts on the trail of love. A flat run as promised led the congregation into romantic scenery, consisting of the gas line, moonscapes and swamps! With checks in place, the congregation had time to gather around and take in the latest gossip, wondering who had designed the dress, and what would the wedding breakfast be. As the brides and groom sashayed down the aisle, the congregation joined in a medley of traditional wedding songs!

Pre wedding cocktails were on offer to the thirsty congregation, who by now were adourned in a beautiful array of milinery. The nurses and their OT caps for their initiative, Eastern Promise and the winner (blue can for the first person to tell us this week who it was) were brought up to show off their hats

Christine, Bunny Girl, Satu Lagi and Call Girl were head to head in the final of the quiz. Now you know why it is important to remember these days. The date of the Prince Charles and Di wedding - could have won you a hamper...well done to Christine, the Royal Wedding correspondent brought especially out from the UK.

The throwing of the bouquet and the cutting of the cake, brought a tear to many of the congregation. You may now kiss the bride, said the vicar which announced the end of the shout up. Thanks to the committee for a well run event, lovely grub from the yacht club - Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud and jolly good fun.

Dont expect that this week..

NEXT RUN: Subok 309 (towards town end)
