RUN NO. 2131
SITE: SPG 370 JLN MUARA, KG SG TILONG
HARES: CATH C/JULIE ANNE/ROSIE (Named Diva/Mrs Merlot/Bella respectively)
HENS: 40 CHICKS: 9

Hares Diva, Mrs Merlot and Bella Indeed it was a Merry Mid Xmas Run. Hens arrived to find a brightly decorated site and to get us in the party mood Bunnny girl and Tango subjected us to, sorry entertained us with a performance of Ladies Night and then, thankfully, the horn blew and we dashed off down 370 to the disappearing rainforest behind Bini Hutan's collapsed house.

First check was found on ahead across a lunar landscape, then hens puffed and panted up a goat track at the top of which Hot Lips found an old hash sign telling us we should be grateful for the fat we had lost ! Hens struggled on red-faced to 2nd check where ladies stood trying to regain their composure and "glowing" somewhat. Peahen took control and forged ahead to find the on paper in no time , with Madam Sin (yes she was actually doing the run) and Hot Lips. Hens surged forwards overtaking the intrepid three, soon to be confused on meeting Eastern Promise, Alice in Wonderland and a couple of others. Obviously they had been clucking away and got onto the out trail instead of the in!

Once again Peahen set off down the hill with her side kicks and were overtaken but not deterred as they crossed the bridge and trotted up hill. Not as fast or far as the other front runners and having made a group decision to cut out back to Bini Hutan's, the trio came upon the out trail and so called the on paper for the poor hens flapping about at 3rd check. Skipping down the trail they were sprayed by 2 Santas with water pistols, but gratefully accepted the chocolates offered and headed happily back to the on site and partook of a refreshing glass ( Ruthless Pursuit actually partook of 5 ) of punch. With hens dressed up in an array of seasonal accessories and the JM changing costumes like a pantomime actor, from Xmas Brunhilda to Vicar of Dibley, the shout up saw down downs galore - 3 hares, 1 guest( Julia), 2 Santas and 7 christenings: The Duchess (Veronica 1090+ runs) Diva (Cath) Bella (Rosie) Mrs Merlot (Julie-Anne) Boomerang (Kate) Clover (Norma) and Thelma (Linda) Then lashings of Yuletide Fare was served up and the hens were VERY entertained by the harmonious singing and wonderfully co-ordinated dancing of the H3 Lively Lasses until numbers dwindled and a few stayed on to kindly help clear up and finish the punch! OH WHAT A NIGHT! Thanks hares ON ON !!

RUN NO. 2130 - TUNGKU LINK

Close to the runway!
Things you find on our runs...... anyone for a bath on the way to cool off?

RUN NO. 2130
DATE: 16 JUN 2009

Wow – who would of thought there were cool little niches around Brunei like the one we went to Last Tuesday!! For a lot of people it was their first time to that area and took a little trial and error to find.

On arrival we discovered that hash tent was set up at the end of a shop house outside an amazing souvenir shop.

The run started and off we set back down towards the main Tungku link road following a “lovely” drain all the way. Now…. Maybe it was just me being a wee slow coach but I missed all the checks!! OOPS. So for quite a few of us it was a nice walk round. We met up with some of the front-runners when we accidentally (yeah right) took a short cut. On we kept going till we reached literally the end of the run way – to find what we thought was one of our lovely RBA planes about to take off over us – so….. being the sensible adult women that we are….. we stood there hands gripped tightly onto the bottom of our t-shirts…. Tina with camera ready…. To ……FLASH THE PLANE!!! Oops again, it turns out the plane was just coming down the runway to turn around and take off the other way. No flashers!!!
Nice walk back to site from there… I do believe some people went round more than once.

The shout up was a lot of fun – man on hash who proceeded to gun his motorbike.. then have it stall right in front of us all…. And of course the ladies were kind and gave him no hassles….. We had 3 new guests to welcome and of course Ah Struth to farewell. A lovely gift was given to Ah Struth and it was sad to have to farewell such a wonderful member of the ladies hash. You will be truly missed by all!!!!!

Finally before some lovely soup we had a rendition of – COOL AND THE GANG (Mrs Pingu, Bunny Girl and Tango – which one was cool????) singing and dancing to “LADIES NIGHT” – ah ha!!!! Very cool ladies!!!

Thank you to the hares and the lovely lady who allowed us to have the hash at her shop. The soup and home made bread and fruit was lovely.

RUN NO. 2129 - SUBOK 67

DATE: 9 June 2009
SITE: Subok 67
HARES: Sid/Kate C/Fiona - The Librarians
HENS: 48 CHICKS: 3
FRONT HORN: Anna BACK HORN: Trailblazer

A lovely evening, although the weather has been hot and humid lately; Subok Spg: 67 was nice and cool as it is high up. The hens arrived as usual chit-chatting about this and that, with the ice hen smashing the ice (the latest method: with hammers) with the help of other hens, the JMs sorting out the finances with the Hash Cash, and the drinks hens emptying cartons of drinks into the bins in readiness for the ice. Yes it was just like the hens in a chicken run.

“John did not help to lay the run, it is a ladies’ run. For Walkie-talkies, you can come back after a drink” Mrs Pingu announced.

So we all set off and as expected of Subok runs, it was up and up down a bit then up again. After about 15minutes we arrived at my favourite spot in Subok, a local farmer’s nest. A lovely spot where one can survey a breath taking, Mother Nature’s creation. A few years ago I suggested to the farmer that he should build a restaurant up there, to which he replied “No one would walk up here even if it meant eating here.”

Glamour sat innocently on a bench behind the farmer’s building, holding what looked like a bottle of water; upon seeing us she produced tiny red cups and poured the drink in the cups and offered each approaching hen. Expecting G & T, Christine and I took a large gulp and almost chocked as the burning spirit went down our throats. Luckily I had some water and diluted it. I actually did very well since Christine could not take another gulp and offered me hers. Yes, Alice in Wonderland drunk it with no difficulties but alas! The heat got her. The rest of the hens carried on ahead.

Alice and Diana managed to go round and according to them, soon after the drink the run became very strenuous. It would appear that there were no checks found.

This is what Diana wrote (Alice too had a similar experience):-
“Too early I thought to give up now and after just a short discussion – shall we shan’t we??? Off we went into the unknown as far as I was concerned never having done a hash in this part of Subok. It’s reputation goes before it, with hills and more hills, and not to be disappointed we were soon down into the river bank and then climbing a very steep and difficult hill – crikey I thought, how long is this hash going to be – looking at the hills in front of me, I realised that it was going to take every bit of energy I could muster. My water was running low, so desperate measures were needed – I empted the one and only electrolyte sachet into my remaining water and hoped it would last me through to the end. I scrambled up yet another hill and surprise, surprise we were on the out trail. Only ¾ hour and I had visions of at least an hour and a half.

Where were the checks I wondered, although I was up and fairly close to the front runners? I didn’t hear a check called – I asked around and only got a vague response as to whether or not there had been any checks and if so who found them! Soon all such things were forgotten with a nice cold 100 plus and nibbles being handed round before the entertainment began…”
-------------------------------------
As Glamour, Christine, Linda and I sat admiring the hills and debating on whether we should carry on, Smurf and Madam Sin joined us. They advised us to turn round as the trail ahead was very rugged. Before long, Tango came running and puffing and wondering why she was going in for the second time. “It is a lollipop” we told her. “If she hadn’t found us,” Smurf observed, “she could have been going round and round all night.” However we found out that we were in fact on the other side of Tasek Lama

All good things come to an end, Glamour packed her bottle and cups and we all walked back. After one hill, we found Trailblazer at a junction, doing what she knows best, directing every one where to go so that the hens that had gone all the way round did not do what Tango did. And so we all trekked down to the site.

When we got back we found plenty of food laid out for us by the Hares. We even had starters before the shout. During the shout out we were entertained by the Three Boeing Girls, Magic Roundabout, Ah Struth and Mad Marg, perhaps as good-bye to Ah Struth who will sadly be leaving Brunei soon. The JMs tried to make us all join in their weekly entertainment by making us sing “LADIES NIGHT” MM Yeah, What a night……….
Unfortunately most of us cannot sing very well, or may be it was due to the special juice up the hill, because we sounded as though we were returning from a good evening out at a pub or a British football match!!

As we were all very well behaved no one got the Hashit.

Pleasant evening, there was a gathering of like minds, and not so like bodies (worn out already before the start due to that b…..hill) Headed off into a lovely bit of jungle in our usual position at the back of the queue. Rumours started to abound within 10 minutes that the hares were lost!! (God forbid!) The write up did say …” up down up down round about and out” well did that mean a complete U turn after 20 minutes…mmmmm. Continued on anyway and caught up with some dubious characters…Dizzy sucking on a very phallic looking whistle. “Don’t worry girls it is sterilized” says Dizzy, she offered to share it as she was heading on back. Sid took the offering, but promised not to suck or mutilate…Continued on to the check, steep hills, front runners had turned back (yes the rumour was correct!) We eventually ended up at the check, could hear the hens clucking in the gullies, front runners by this time were on out…so we turned tails as well. More hills on back, but eventually that lovely pink sky was waiting…

Whilst we were all in the jungle, Survivor did a quick hash dash down the hill to the road and back up again…What a gal! She needs a down down for such a marathon effort.

We waited and we waited some more, eventually the Hares came out, looking more like Hang Dogs, than cooked chooks!!! However when all was said and done, they looked after us all and kept us safe…Well done.

Guest appeared to have an enviable job, a ratio of one gal to loads of fit men??? Medical officer indeed, what a story??? Rumour has it that some of our more vocal members were off to the Men’s hash following night to meet the other members of the crew….”lots of rounds of In the Navy being sung”
New Member: Virgin Hare - Nicole
Hares thanked..
Hashit. Hares, Bunny Girl, Guest’s sponsor for assorted reasons. They took the water against the fence, with their backs to the wall like a pack of prison inmates.

SITE: DST

Photos shows hens negotiating the bridge that the hares had constructed so they will not get too wet! Also, to the hens' surprise they found Survivor on the out trail having walked in for about half an hour and heard the calls for the last check...... ED

It was yet another hot and humid day. I got there early to find the tent in place, and plates of yummy food being put down. Hmm.. it was a shame that I couldn’t stay to help out with the eating of it all.

Before heading off I had a thought, (just the one) and put a reminder into my phone to remember to get the signs on my way home. I think that is the 1st time I haven’t had to go back for them!! Progress.

We headed off into dst jungle, wound our way round a very nice track, after 15 minutes we came upon first check, after a short while it was called on ahead. Not too long after I came to second check and it wasn’t long before it was found by Anna and laid through. I must have slowed down, not that I got out of a brisk walk for the entire hash as I heard in the distance third check being called on paper. Before I knew it, I was in sight of the cars and tent. Survivor was ahead of me, almost out and it was all over. Just the hash I needed.

After a full on day this hash seemed the perfect end to the day. No hills, no mud, no water, no drama’s, just a wonderful meander through the jungle. It was just a shame I couldn’t stay. It was dedicated to all the grandma’s but I tell you, a perfect hash for a busy mum!

I can’t comment on the on on as I had to race off, but I’m sure it was a lovely evening. I did see Eastern Promise promoting Mad Marg’s baskets with fervor and the trade did seem rather brisk, perhaps she might look at car sales.

RUN NO. 2126 - LUCKY GARDENS

RUN NO. 2126
DATE: 19 MAY 2009
SITE: LUCKY GARDENS
HARE: Magic Roundabout/(Absentee) Linda
HENS: 41 CHICKS: 4

On arrival at the site, and contemplating whether my car would survive the muddy track made me a bit late in signing in. The tent was not where I had imagined and off we went to the flat clearing, and soon hens were going in all directions. After ascertaining that there one was a short run on yellow paper and a long run on pink paper after lots of calls and signals as to where each group were going, I settled for a trot in the jungle on the long run.

Not long in, I met Rozi and Wina who must have been so engrossed in some discussions - probably Rozi’s coming wedding and house moving that they had gone off paper! Good luck Rozi on your big day. After a few pleasantries, they were soon off up the hill and I did not see them again till back at the tent!

The hill, just went on and on and on and on, and at times, I could hear the front pack checking but never caught up till the last check. The constant drone of bulldozers reminded us of the continual disappearance of the jungle, and when traffic was heard we had popped up by the Salambigar link road. We then had a diversion to view what was left of Bini Hutan’s house where fond memories of many ladies hash Christmas runs started. A pile of rubble complete with a pool greeted us and I could imagine just how Juergen had felt that Saturday morning in February when he looked out of his window and saw his garden where we were standing at the “viewing platform”!

Off we went again, and as we ran along the ridge, we veered towards the left where another chunk of the jungle had been bulldozed. We went across the cleared bit and back into the jungle we went. Back again on familiar lucky garden trails we were out where the short run started.

Shout up began with Magic celebrating her 300th run, and Jan Murphy ordained as “Possum” by our duly attired JMs. Jokes then centred on nuns and the hens, especially Madam Sin came to the party which had the whole coup in stitches.

No hashit was given – again – although a “rain check” on some sin by a hasher who had left could be forthcoming next week…….

We then enjoyed healthy pastas and salad that Magic had prepared and the circled slowly diminished towards the end of the night while the rain stayed away. On on

NEXT WEEK’s RUN: DST – Dedicated to all the grandmas - Bring a plate (with food) to share
HARES: The BBOS
Enjoy the many pitcher plants and wild orchids around – nice trails although a bit scratchy around the bracken. Some thorns around as well.

RUN NO. 2125 - DIPLO

Run No 2125
Date: 12 May 2009
Site: Diplo
Hares: Alison, Cheryl and Sue
Hens: 53 Chicks: 2

My co hare Linda did run (walk) the Diplo site last week and was to do the write up for last weeks run but is in hospital having an operation, what a way to get out of writing the words! Good luck, hope all goes well Linda and we will be thinking of you.

Now I didn’t run last week as I had done 3 days of recce for another run and was pooped, no other way to describe it, so had a birds eye view for a change sitting in (hash) sartorial spendour all cool and scrubbed up and seeing the first of Tuesdays elite running coterie staggering in red faced gasping to confront the hares of the day,

“Didn’t know there where so many **#* hills in Diplo” !

“Nice one girls, did you deliberately look for every hill in the jungle”!

Then the gaggle arrived in little groups,

“good run, so many hills, thought I might die on the last one”

“Bill’s Hill, was that where I was, that was where Jane and Malcolm spent the night’ should change the name to Honeymoon Hill”. Good luck to you too Jane, hope your run was a success.

Racket tailed drongos? Heard tin cans rattling, was that the sound they make”????

And so another lovely run in what is still an untouched bit of jungle just hanging in there as we are being encroached by diplomatic residences. No tent, we are having a little problem with the tent suppliers according to Alice so a large number of hash chairs were produced from boots and we all settled down under another lovely Brunei evening sky

Shout Up proceeded in orderly fashion then we were all tasked to revert to childhood to play paper- rock- scissors but with a twist which had many of us struggling with coordination skills. No hashit was awarded as far as I can recall. A lovely healthy supper was provided by the hares and another Tuesday evening passed in contentment

On On. Magic.

RUN NO. 2124
SITE: JLN AMAN, KG SG TILONG
HARES: TRAILBLAZER/TINA L/SURVIVOR
HENS: 44 CHICKS: 5

Another hot sticky day in Brunei, another Tuesday, another Ladies Hash.
Our venue this week, my old stomping ground, Jalan Aman.

I have so many happy memories of living in Jalan Aman. We first moved there in 1993 from the farthest reaches of Tutong.

Jalan Aman seemed so civilized by comparison, after all, the house had air con and wardrobes! Luxury! It was a great time to live in Jalan Aman as there were so many families with so many kids. I never had to bother taking Hamish out to find company it was all there on our doorstep!

The one place the kids loved to play was ‘Dog Hill’ (so called as the kids saw a dog there once!) and as we set off on the hash last Tuesday and climbed ‘Dog Hill’ all those lovely memories came flooding back! Ah! So there we were scrambling up ‘Dog Hill’ on to first check. The check was quickly found, not so sure by whom, and then we were on our way through the scratchy bracken and trippy undergrowth.

At second check there seemed to be some confusion as to whether the check was ‘on back’ or ‘on ahead!’ Sue tried to explain that the on paper was found back from the check therefore the call should be ‘on back’ but others were not convinced. However, on we went through more scratchy bracken a wee bit of water and found ourselves coming out beside some houses. To the amusement of the residents of the simpang, our raggle taggle (Scottish saying) bunch of hashers emerged from the jungle wondering where the hell we were!

As we walked along the simpang and on to highway I heard a child shouting, ‘Hello teacher!’ Sure enough it was one of the kids from my school. As we strolled along the highway, Sonia said she felt vunerable walking on the road and I think we all agreed with her. However, very quickly we were back at base camp in Jalan Aman.

At the shout up the hares were thanked in the usual manner for laying such a great hash. There were no guests or new members. I made an announcement about the forthcoming Serunai Singers concert, which by the way is on the 15th and 16th of May at 7.30pm at the Mabohai Club.

Tickets are priced at $20, which includes a buffet finger food supper. Come for a bit of Handel, Haydn and Bruckner, with the Seekers thrown in!

Our JM celebrated her 100th run and treated us all to a Ladies Hash sticker, a very nice gesture. Hash shit was dispensed to Veronica, Diana and Satu Lagi.

The hares provided delicious satays, which were savoured under the stars.

This week’s run is the usual Diplo stuff. I was only joking last week when I said you had to rappel, canoe and rock climb. If you do, I apologize in advance.
Everyone should manage to go round, but if in doubt please only go to first check. One last thing, please be on the look out for the Greater Racket-Tailed Drongo. We saw one on our recce.
On on! Cheryl

HARES: Ruthless Pursuit/Cath C
HENS: 45 CHICKS: 10

It was a hot and humid day and it was tempting to just sit in our chairs
and relax with an icy drink in Ruthless Pursuit's lovely garden. With
reservations I thought why not after all it would be nice to run in an area
that I thought I knew - a dam, lovely fruit trees and not too many hills
that we could not handle. Besides my co-hare for next week had delegate the
writing of the words to me!

Much to our shock the run was longer than what we have been getting the
past few weeks. I could hear a lot of swearing up ahead ....Fxxx.....!!!
......Shit........! but they plodded on and completed the run. The lovely
view at the top of the ridge and the breeze by the dam compensated for the
longer than usual run. Nearly everybody took time to stop and enjoy
although it would have been lovely if the dam had more water and we could
cool off crossing it.

Magic Roundabout was leading the pack and found first check, actually she
also found the second check although I was too far behind to hear her call
..On paper ..for the second check. Magic Roundabout felt that she had
Roadrunner for company and completed the run in good time. I found it scary
walking back to On On site on the wrong side of the road at dusk.

Back on site we were welcomed with a cocktail and the sight of all the food
cooking on the BBQ, sausages, prawns, onions plus a variety of salads. What
followed next was hip filling....all those lovely traditional desserts
(Apple strudel, Pavlovas, Anzac biscuits, Lamingtons, Minties........etc
all provided for by the Kiwis and Aussies, am I glad to have completed the
run!

Hares were thanked and we welcomed one guest, a Japanese-American whose
name I found very difficult to remember and a new member introdued by
another new member. Again I cannot remmember the name as i must have been
too tired, forgetful or simply .....!!!

Next our JM's did their special rendition for all those April birthday
celebrants followed with a down down, jokes and announcements. Hash Shit
was given out in a different way (the drink bucket was used) to Amanda W
and Tracey.

It was a lovely evening and a big thank you to all the Kiwis and Aussies
for everything.

RUN NO. 2122 - SERASA

RUN NO. 2122
DATE: 21 April 2009
SITE: SERASA
HARES: British Ladies
HENS: 41 CHICKS: 10

What do they say – Hurrah Hurrah!!!!

It was an overcast afternoon that saw us all gather at Serasa Yacht
Club for the prestigious St George’s Run. We arrived to a colorful
array of… Red and White… Everywhere.

Gathering by the pool we were to discover an interesting run of sorts
– find a clue, go to another clue, complete all the clues to
eventually complete the run. For some of us antipodeans a bit hard to
do when most clues meant very little to us… But with a few brilliant
minds amongst the group nothing was too hard.

Now a bit hard for me to remember all the clues but here it goes:

First clue… “Peewee - spend a penny”... If you ask me I thought she’d
be like any good kiwi spending a penny - AT THE BAR. But no… off to
the long drops we go!Next clue… “Down Brighton’s Pier” (Where’s that?)

And off we go again. Next Clue… Shoes by the beach... Ah – one we
understand!

Next Clue… Ok real tricky – why cant we just say LAMPOST!!

Next clue… Oxford and Cambridge… Visiting universities? No it’s rowing
(go figure)

OK, from here to flag poles then to the ends of England. Or should I
say Serasa Spit!! Then the long run/walk/chat home to Serasa Yacht Club.

Aaah, we made it to discover we get stickers on our chest and off to
play Top Town (Ha one for the kiwi’s!). First skipping, which I must
say was very good fun. Next Hula Hoops – ok, you’d think with hips and
thighs like I’ve got the thing would stay UP! Egg and spoon race (nice
style Willi and Kate) and finally up and down up and down in the sacks
we go (again hip thigh problem of getting them in the sack). RUN
COMPLETE!! Then lovely bandana gifts and off to the showers.

The On-on was very enjoyable. Lovely cocktails and Bunny Girl looking
HOT! Everyone dressed in red and white. We welcomed a new guest Willi
Anne.

On-up made special mention of those who stood OUT in the various
games: Yann and Smurf proving GREAT IN THE SACK, Melissa and Gail
proving GREAT WITH THEIR HIPS IN THE HOOPS, Kate, Willi and Judy
proving they GREAT WITH KITCHEN UTENSILS AND FOOD, and Ready Mix and
Diane proving they COULD GIVE ROCKY A RUN FOR HIS MONEY ON THE ROPES!

Lucky draws followed then a wee music quiz!!!!

A special mention was also made in regards to a collection to go to
the Breast Cancer Society in memory of Lee. So dip deep ladies as Hens
Hash is going to match whatever we donate. Also, our wonderful Jane
will be doing a 5km walk and we can all sponsor her through a special
website.

Satu Lagi accomplished her 50 runs and rewarded with the customary pot.
Shout up done.

And finally an English evening would not be complete without yummy,
yummy fish and chips (& green mushy things too!!!) followed by home
baking. (On-up – want your sponge recipe!)

Then BOOGIE ON DOWN to Disco Diva! We love you WHAM!!

Hey you wonderful English ladies – a really enjoyable, fun great
night. Thanks so much for all your effort and time.

RUN NO. 2121 - MTF

RUN NO. 2121
SITE: MTF
HARES: Tiga/Magic Roundabout
FRONT HORN: Anna BACK HORN: Trailblazer
HENS: 37 CHICKS: 8

It was with heavy hearts that the hens met for the run that afternoon. We were all still reeling from the tragic news of the death of Lee ‘Roadrunner’ Jefford.

The hens came to the run to pay their respects to Lee and find support within our Hash family. The love, support and kindness that I have seen and experienced that night and throughout the week makes me so very proud and privileged to be part of the Brunei Hen House Harriers. Together we are strong.

In Hash tradition the horns were carried on the run but in respect to Lee they were not used. The Hash horns were silent. The start to the run was quiet and respectful.

Off we went doing what we do best and what Lee would have wanted. Into the... mud. So much mud... and so deep... that’s MTF!

After negotiating our way through the mud and most hens managing to keep their shoes on we went into the jungle. This was much nicer than the mud and I was enjoying the scenery when we came upon the signs directing us to either the short or long run. Not one for the easy option (well…) I went on the long run. The run was great with everything we Hashers enjoy and some crafty checks – I even found one!

The run ended with a bit more mud and then we were out.

The shout up was a sombre affair and started as usual by thanking the Hares. We also had 3 first time guests Jane, Monique and Vix. Virginie was also made a new member so a big Hash welcome to her and we look forward to getting to know her.

A few words were said in tribute to our beloved Roadrunner and we made Lee an honorary member of the Hash so we will always have her with us.

As mentioned in Lee’s Memorial Service we will have a yearly memorial run for Lee to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness to continue with the work she was so passionate about.

We look forward to having Auntie Lynn back with us at the Hash soon.

Lee ‘Roadrunner’ Jefford so greatly missed but never forgotten.

Rain in the late afternoon did not deter a good flock of hens from gathering at the electrical substation that marks the start of Bukit Serdang’s trail. Only one way to go UP ! Muttering, cursing, swearing, sweating, we all made it to the top eventually. How many hens stopped to look at the view or to catch their breath?
The trouble with Bukit Serdang is once at the top one does not stay there, it is down and up, down and up. We met our veteran hasher Glamour who had found all checks and was going all the way, Go Glamour! You inspire us all.

We eventually popped out onto Jln Kota Batu and a short run along the road to sign out and head off down the road to Dizzy's house.

The Easter Run shout up started to the usual banter of hens, pullets, layers, no doubt discussing the desirability of Dizzy’s house as a permanent shout up spot. A Coop with a view, yes, that would work.

Hares were thanked, a lone guest introduced, Gail from the Gold Coast. Wonder if she still has a home there or has it floated away.

A Joke was bought by Gordon who couldn’t read it as she needed her glasses. I can relate to that Gordon.

Rosie urged us all to trip over out tongues with a rendition of Egghunt Egghunt Egghunt. Say that fast and see what happens.

Hash handles were bestowed on Lee, now to be known as Roadrunner. Heather S: Fertile Myrtle. Lynn: Aunty Lynn. And Amanda S: Bunny Girl. All very appropriate and well received.

In the midst of all the gaiety Madame Sin’s voice was heard to cry out Beer! I don’t drink Beer. Now we all know that’s a whopper. She must have been having a little off day!

Hashits were finally passed on to the hares eastern Promise and Norma for not staying at the hash site to ensure all hens were out safely. Gail the guest’s mobile phone went off so Rosie had to take it in her stead. How many people have whales in their garden?

A repast of curry puffs and Easter Eggs rounded off another Tuesday in the life of Brunei’s feathered friends

Well the Words did say to expect the unexpected!! and it was the April Fools' run!!!

School is back in as it was a chalk and paper run - eco friendly said Mad Marg. 5-15pm came around too soon as we gathered in Mad Marg's carport and off dashed Mrs Pingu with the hens scurrying after her - down the simpang we ran and walked and along Jalan Muara much to the bemusement of a lot of passing traffic wondering who the pack were!! We dutifully followed the eco friendly chalk arrows on the roadside until we got to Simpang 370 and into the jungle we ventured.
Down a ladder we had to clamber one by one and along a path until we had to step into the water (or was it sewerage!!) to get across and up another ladder to get back onto the trail.

Just as some of us got up to the otherside to carry on following the road up a steep hill, we looked back as Miss Pink had slipped and fallen so lots of Hens ran back to make sure she was ok, then we came across Legally Blond's guest who was feeling faint and had her head between her knees and Nurse Cath was feeding her some sugar to get her back on her feet.

On we went up the hill and through some new houses being built and past some terrible rubbish strewn around the simpang and eventually the road curved around and back down the ladder we had to clamber though some clever ones knew the way back and avoided the smelly drain again.

Back onto Jalan Muara and there was Simpang 338 just along the road and it was a relief for us to get back to Mad Marg's. A pleasant run of just over an hour with a bit of jungle running (mind the poo!!!) and road running and walking.
The JMs did a song and dance routine for us at the shout up to help the Birthday Girls to celebrate, 2 guests were introduced, Layla from the UK and Anna from the Phillippines and a down down given to them.

Also we cheered Smurf on as she celebrated her 500th run.

Announcements were made - Gabby has plants to sell as she is moving house, PeeWee told us that some of the hashers are appearing in the next production of Hamlet or is it Hashlet so buy a ticket off her and Satu Lagi is looking for people interested in learning about Cameras.

Miss Pink entertained us with a joke involving a husband and wife and a policeman!.
Thanks to the Hares for an unusual run and also for the delicious dips and pita bread supper.

NEXT RUN: - Easter Run at Bukit Serdang, Jln Kota Batu. On on at Dizzy's (next to RBYC). Parking spaces are limited so park carefully on the road.

Tango & Ms Pingu go Hashing

Tango and Pingu went up Dadap hill
To follow the trail of dropped paper.

Tango fell down and split her neat gown
While Pingu came tumbling after!

Up got our Tango and said to Ms Pingu
"you ''re got got to be f-------g joking!

"We must keep on going
The moon light is glowing
And hashers are wondering after...."

Up Pingu got, to the shout-up did trot
To grab a well earned cold T------r
Tang got lost and got in plum last
So the vino just tasted like cider!

AAhhhh now where do i start!? Mmmm let’s just say that this is the hash run that i really don’t like.. so suffice to say.. I went to the hash.. with a sinking feeling in my heart! But.. hey.. let’s think positive!

We started off heading down the dirt road...past the barrier.. a nice stroll me thinks.. ahh No paper?? So a few ran on.. a few doubled back.. and a few (i.e me) stood and admired the slightly dead snake that was on the path! On On was called from ahead.. so off we clucked... turning left as if to go towards the jungle where the 1st check was found! (by someone!)

The on on paper was no where to be found.. but alas I could hear Alison calling so headed toward her dulcet tones.. on up! And in good old Tina style.. on down, slipping over, in true Torville-and-Dean-style (5.7 on the score board!) I did notice a few people (Ruthless Pursuit) taking the slightly shortened route.. but hey...!

At the bottom we were greeted by a bit of a pile up.. as Boel had fallen into/over the drain as she was looking for the paper.. and I wasn’t looking so I piled onto her, as she laid on the floor...Ok, do I laugh or cry????
We dusted ourselves down, had a bit of a smile about it and carried on! (Oh how we laughed on the way to casualty!!!) Now, this was where it got interesting!

Walking along the roadway.. I noticed the paper went behind a tree.. but as I mentioned to Yann - what’s the point in that? And the paper went in front of the tree as well as behind (being a good hasher I used the theory of the shortest route! Just like Ruthless Pursuit!) Ah now, this was a huge mistake!

Before I knew what I was doing.. I was jumping in the air, doing a particularly girly scream.. shouting "get em off me, get em off me!!". As there were no fantastically handsome men around to be seen this could only mean one thing: BUGS!
I have no what these things were but they hurt and they were digging their hooters into my thighs and face! Trailblazer did her best to rid these little creatures from my legs.. although I do think the ladies I was walking with thought I´d just show them a few of my dance floor moves! (Shaaamon!)

The rest of the run for me (AND also Hip hop Eastern Promise, who also got bitten!) consisted of Mrs Pingu running around trying to find the trail as we couldn’t locate the paper; and MadMarg coming round to me and Eastern Promise, liberally applying bite cream to our 'important little places!' there there there!!!

What can I say, but the phone call to Tango to get us out of the jungle was what I’d been waiting for! I’m not a celebrity but get me outta here!!! No outlandish demands, no white lilies in me dressing room, or plates of red m&ms.. just get me OUT!!!

DST now has new meaning:
Dodgy Stingy Things
Dancing Stung Tina!
Double Stressful Times etc

At the shout-up we welcomed one first-time guest, Signe from Denmark, but otherwise not many announcements this week. Thanks to the Hares for an interesting run! Sadly I have decided that next time.. I go with my gut feeling - and stay in bed!!!
ON ON Tina I.

Well, what can I say about tonights run. We began by organising everyone into boats and waiting for those who decided to arrive fashionably late.

Once we were off we had a pleasant boat trip to the island, although I am told one boat had a leak and Cheryl had to use her finger to plug up the hole.Well done Cheryl!! We were greeted at the jetty by a smiling head man.

We proceeded along the pathway until we entered the jungle and went up along waterfalls ,rocks and, narrow ledges with ropes to assist us. Along the trail there were crocodiles,(although coming from Darwin that did not worry me}.

One sign warned us of skeletal remains but I did not spot them, emergency rations were placed along the path and Indiana Jones' hat was there but unfortunately Harrison Ford was nowhere to be seen.

We reached a high ledge and had a spectacular view and then continued down back to the jetty. We were kindly given hospitality at the head mans house and signed a guest book before our boat trip home. I am sorry I do not know if there were any checks on the run as nobody I spoke to was at the lead to advise me.

At the shout up the hares were thanked for a memorable run and all celebrated special runs - Mad Marg 300, Legally Blonde 200 and Dizzy 150. Well Done. There was one guest Beth from the U.K here with loan service Amanda entertained us with an Indiana Jones joke.

Everybody behaved themselves as there was no Hashit awarded. The hares provided us with drinks and delicious pasta salads. Thank You

The run had all the elements of what I think make a good run. It
was a good length of 1 hour, it had lots of hills to get those legs
working and there were lots of good running trails. Unfortunately I
don’t know who found the checks or how many there were, because I
only could only hear the calls in the distance. However, at one
point I did find something that looked a bit like a check but might
not have been a check. It was a pile of paper with paper leading
away from it. Was this possible sabotage of the hash – who knows?

Thankfully it didn’t cause any problems for the experienced hashers
as they found the 'on paper' pretty quickly.

We were thoroughly entertained at the ‘shout up’ with great jokes from Nellie and Amanda. Amanda was a little too honest and ended up getting the hash-it which she shared with Eastern Promise.

I’d like to thank the hares for a lovely run through the jungle and
for the absolutely fantastic food they put on for everyone. It was
my absolute favourite – The best Laksa ever!!!!!!!

RUN NO. 2114

DATE: 24 FEBRUARY 2009
RUN NO. 2114 - National Day Run
HARES: Trailblazer/Smurf/Madam Sin
SITE: Mata-Mata
FRONT HORN: BACK HORN: Dizzy

It was a very hot and dusty afternoon in Mata-Mata. The tent was late (again) and Hens were trying to find shade amongst the parked cars. When we eventually set off, we walked up the dirt track road for about one km before we entered the jungle. Of course I forgot I was going to be writing this until the run was over and all I remember at the beginning was going up and up and up. And going down we crossed a couple of streams, a bit muddy and a bit slippery going down on some parts. What a lovely piece of jungle with plenty of greenery. First check was found by Sarah and third check by Lee. Nobody was sure who found second check. In all, a superb run in an area new to some of us. First front runners were probably out in 45 mins back onto the wide dirt track road heading back to where we started and all Hens were out safely not too long after. Word out is that two of the hares had to keep up with a couple of youngsters on the first recce - how old were they again?!

Back to the OnOn site and we’re tent-less for the night but it was a fine evening so we didn’t need it anyway! After the usual weekly strip-show, the evening’s proceedings got underway. Hares who were wearing the Brunei colours were honoured with usual down-downs for a job well done. There were three new guests, a tourist from Singapore who runs with a Singapore chapter and two Bruneians guests of Dr. Pron, very apt for the National Day run. There were two birthday celebrants for February - many happy returns again to Anna Scott and Cheryl.

Madame Sin then did a National Day quiz. The first was to sing the National Anthem and the two Pron mates did us proud (phewwww for me) though maybe with a bit of prompting from another fellow Bruneian. We also learn from the little quiz that Alison shares her wedding anniversary with Brunei’s Silver Jubilee - Congratulations Alison!

Joke time! Well what can I say....Glamour thank you for what is probably the most graphic joke we have had yet. And as long as you make Amanda read them out you can keep them coming! Sarong got the hashit again for another mobile phone offence. And the finale for the evening was yet another Ladies HashHit by our talented JM’s, “Thank you for the Hash”. Well done ladies....encore..encore.

Thank you to the hares for the nasi lemak, a first for many Hens. A good number of hens stayed behind with the usual suspects for a fun night under the stars (though one really was a satellite!) On..On!!!

RUN NO. 2113

DATE: 17 FEB 2008
RUN NO 2113
SITE: RIMBA
HARES: Speedo, aH Struth and Naj (now Eastern Promise)
FRONT HORN: Melissa BACK HORN: Trailblazer

A good flock of Hens turned up for the run (about 50?) and set off along the road and into the jungle. It was a good length run and front runners emerged hot and panting about 45 minutes later with the others arriving in dribs and drabs afterwards. All enjoyed it and had had a good workout to build up a thirst (see below the number of amber beverage they consumed )

Lovely running trails (with comments from many about how they did not know there was so much jungle at Rimba) with three checks, the first 2 found by Lee and the 3rd by Carol (now Mrs Pingu, who said "Lots of running and I think we did a Love Triangle ! "(the mind boggles!)

A few muddy legs and bottoms were spotted too along with glowing faces (remember ladies glow, men sweat). Hens were greeted on arrival with a selection of edible Valentine treats including viagra pills and Valentine cocktails, the latter to reinforce the effects of the former. As Hens stood clutching their beverages, the JMs appeared dressed in purple capes, black leggins and "lucky drawers" and burst into song with their latest Ladies Hash hit "Hashing Queens" Bravo girls!

The hares were called up and given down downs and first time guests, Annie from UK, another neice of Aunty Lynn (how many has she got?) and Carmen, an Equadorian Hetero Hasher.

Sparklers were lit and the celebratory mood took over. Suddenly "Stupid Cupid" (who some hens had spotted and mistaken for a fellow hen "doing a wee or a poo", but who had in fact been squatting in the grass in an attempt to hide!!) skipped into the merry hash circle with his bow and arrow, Valentine presents and a new hip! (It was of course our well loved Slippery Nipple who nearly went "hip over tipple" on the floor of the tent) He shouted "Titter not, for I am Heaven's Matchmaker" and proceeded with his own "Lucky Drawers".

Amanda Sparrow got some bells ( and lots of kisses) which she was assured would " lead him ( Capt. Sparrow) wherever you want". Madam Sin received Willy Wonder Pills ( now all she needs is a wiily). Readymix, a pair of perfumed thongs (for feet not bottom) and Trailblazer, a "Goody Two Shoes " bag (because she is one) Dizzy, who was reprimanded by the playful present giver, "Don't talk with your mouth full or Cupid won't come again!", was given G & T. Magic Roundabout got a willie warmer for her poor beau (bow?) who is suffering from cold in Brunei and finally Legally Blonde was given rose tinted spectacles which Cupid doubted would work on Brian!

Cupid then skipped off ( but soon sneaked back for a cold juice) and Readymix celebrated her 350th run and showed that she is all heart by havlng donated her award money to the Brunei Animal Foundation. The JMs then performed some "Hash Christenings". 164 runs Carol -Mrs Pingu, 165 runs Naj - Eastern Promise, 176 runs Trish - Ruthless Pursuit ( her H4 Handle) and 113 runs Sarah H - On Up. Alison took them away. Bini Hutan thanked the chinese ladies who had sent round some sushi on her "landslide move". Sarong got the Hash Shit because her mobile rang during the shout up and AMAZINGLY the ads (81) RAN OUT before 8 o'clock!!!! So unfortunately the Hard Core Hashers had to retire to Pee Wee's ( Claire's H4 handle) residence to assauge their thirst! ON ON

DATE: 10 FEB 2009

HARES: Anna/Melissa/Boel
FRONT HORN: Carol BACK HORN: Naj
HENS: 44 CHICKS: 6

Hey it's Tuesday again already and guess what!! IT'S NOT RAINING!!!! so here's cheers for a dry run (so to speak).

Naj and I arrived early to get a good parking spot on Jalan Maura near Simpang 414 so we parked really close to the H3 signs (a reminder for us to pick them up and put them in the car boot so we don't get the HASHIT!!!).. Some savvy Hashers drove up and found parking spots halfway up, less distance to walk up and down!!.

All the hens gathered together at the ready, keen to go. At 5-15pm, Carol sounded the horn and dashed off with several hens chasing after her.

We started along the fence line and then down a little track and along the road and climbed over a small barrier - came to the first small hill and up we went. Trouble was there was lots of mud so we clambered along a long log except I decided to take a shortcut through the mud - very squishy and I thought I was in quicksand as I couldn't get my feet out!! Got hauled out by a passing laughing hasher and scrambled up the hill - lots of thorns to the right and to the left and on the ground and overhead!!!

We ran across a road being built, the truck was still spraying the road and away we went back into the jungle.

When we climbed up again, there was a lovely view to admire and then onwards we headed back - no idea who found the first and second and third checks as the front runners were miles ahead of Ah Struth and me. Heard Naj tooting the horn a few times and we finally staggered out back to Melissa's house.

What a great run, not too much water to wade through, small hills, beautiful views of Brunei to admire and we were all out safely before dark.

The JM's looked after proceedings, few housekeeping rules mentioned, announcements made and Speedo read a joke.

Congratulations to Anna on her 50 runs and 1 new guest from Yorkshire was introduced.
Welcome back to Ah Struth(back from OZ after 4 months) and Dizzy (back from the UK) also.

The hashit changed hands finally - new holders were found: Norma and Linda (for getting someone to sign them in and out last week as they didn't want to get out of their car in the pouring rain), Boel (for leaving the green tray of WORDS behind!!),and Magi as her guest Eva forgot to sign out. Norma did try to plead her case but took it in good spirit - she and Magi stripped to their bras and everyone was duly cooled off!!!

The hares put on delicious vegetarian and meat lasagnes with crispy green salads and lots of garlic bread. Such lovely comfort food. Thanks hares for a great run and delicious supper.
