RUN 2022
Date: 22 May 2007
Site: Lucky Gardens
Hares: Mad Marg/Norma/Anna
Front Horn: Whistling Carol
Back Horn: Whistling Gordon
New Member: Tracey
We all gathered at Lucky Gardens, we were awaiting the horns, but there were none to be had and so it was Carol and Gordon that would be whistling us around. It was time and Carol blew her whistle, no one could hear it, lets go! I hear so off the front runners went only to find old paper—is this it we thought? Over Here we heard the walkie talkies shout. Off everyone went into the jungle a few hills (One Killer!) How do some Hashers survive without water?
I heard CHECKING FROM HERE!Off I went to check to be told by some ramblers strolling through the jungle that I was going the wrong way, I said I was checking, they just stood around watching me. There was lots of paper—is this the on paper I thought no it wasn't to be as I hear ON PAPER! I ran past the ramblers and gave them a smile as they looked at me oddly.
I couldn't muster the energy this week to run very far after 2 sleepless nights. Up and down and around we went over little bridges and streams then another biggy. One hasher said to me "go on go for it" so I did and when I got to the top I tripped up over a hidden branch and fell over. Bugger that!
I'll just trot around the rest of the way. All three checks were found by
Running Bare (clever Girl )A nice evenings run. We all had a well earned drink, then it was off to Mad Margs for the On! ON!.
Shop Display was great and sales were good—Thanks to Mad Marg and her helper, she now have older stock Ts in smaller sizes for sale.—Ed
We had Tracey joining us as a new member and Nancy a guest of Dizzy's. She was travelling around the world by boat and was 1/2 way!
Smurf had another free B--- or two a plastic long thing stuck on her head and a new man by her side called Pete The Meat! (you could tell why)Happy Birthday Smurf! Oh! and welcome back to Veronica R (Where's She Been)? And she was given a new handle and will forthwith be known as “Cow Girl”.— Ed
The food was great and the birthday cakes yummy! and the company better. Thanks to Mad Marg for the use of her house for the on on.

With some risk to beaks and feathers, the hens congregated along the highway between Mentiri and Sungei Akar. Earlybirds chatted in the shade of the parked cars and some almost missed the whisper of a whistle at 5.15. “Was that Whistling our front horn?”
The runners duly set off followed by the walkie talkies and in turn all hopped the drain and headed into the jungle up a welcoming slope of scratchy ferns.
The chatter of the walkie talkies soon subsided when the first hill proved quite long and steep. However all kept a good pace and the runners were soon out of sight and sound. So were the horns. In fact it seemed one of the quietest hashes I’ve been on. There were very few ‘ons ons’ or front and back horns, and no bouts of confusion. A tribute to the well laid trail with lots of paper often helpfully draped on plants and overhanging branches. The path was soft and springy and just damp enough to give grip without being slippery.
Definitely no need for bathers and snorkels but no excitement of water and mud. The only obstacles were occasional skinny vines trying to trip or choke, and the ever friendly ferns. A pleasure of a run. An enjoyable romp up and down hills and the last few metres down the side of the highway. A mere 45mins for the walkies. I guess the runners did it in half that time?
Some were heard to ask. “Were there 2 runs? Were we on the short run?” But apparently not. Just a lovely run in the late afternoon, the sun glinting through the lush greenery. Of course many may have missed that watching their own feet or the heels of those in front.
Then as the sun dropped down and magical hues spread in the sky the hens clucked to Mandy’s for the shout up, drinks, ‘fill your own delicious pita’ and a bonus of buns.
Thanks hares for a super hash and great refreshments. A splendid time including the tremendous downpour—most of use left behind were glad it was under a roof rather than a tent which would have included some feet washing!

RUN 2020
Date: 8 May 2007
Site: Rimba
Hares: Ah Struth/Karen P
The start was prompt as usual, which is not always convenient for someone like me although on this occasion I was signed in and almost ready to go.
An open trail led to a splendid bit of jungle with a bit of an up and a down, but I was so busy looking at my feet that I missed the paper leading in and then came across the front runners coming out to open ground once more.
On on for a while to first check near the half built houses. Never have the girls been quite so sure as to where the paper would resume. We were all expecting, and indeed looking forward, to a glimpse of the toy boys up on the 2nd floor somewhere, offering us a swig from the holy grail.
We divided into search parties running down each row of houses. Once Smurf had reached the far row and was nearing the end, the sound of on on back was heard, coming from afar. Good timing I thought, and a check that had everyone foiled. A sneaky snickett led us back into the deep and dark, around the back of Rimba housing and up and down some lovely trails, often run in the opposite direction.
A couple more checks on the way, until tired and weary, out was reached next to the in. Except the hares took us back in at the other side of the normal in to another out.
Like all good hashes, the best was yet to come, and that was the sight of a sprightly Smurf springing from the swamp, smug smile firmly spread from satisfied side to side of her sweet little face. This sight was all the more amusing as the rest of us had already had plenty of time to down a few glasses of grape juice. The silver service waiters were a couple of rather delectable Toy boys, elegantly attired in skimpy black bathers, the tightness of which was modestly hidden by a becoming apron— Shame!
A good shout up followed by tasty calories and beverage. Thank you.
Certain beverage has a habit of letting the mind explore its full potential, and this was ultimately realized in the naming of the Ladies Hash second honorary member. Thus evolved “Slippery Tipple”. Welcome, and thank you for making our evening so enjoyable.

RUN 2019
Date: 1 May 2007
Site: Lower Diplo

The horn was sounded by Carol (as Trish who was at that stage to be front horn was caught short!) and off went approximately 30 hens on what could only be described as a wonderfully diverse run that had something for everyone.
The run started off on the road with a slight incline testing everyone’s stamina before entering the jungle at Diplo. The trail then went into the heart of a superb example of a jungle. A narrow trail took everyone over and through rivers, over and under many fallen trees and up and down a few challenging inclines! First check was found by Readymix and the trail continued with a death defying (not really) type rope style crossing of a swollen river, to then continue along side and over streams – giving only the most sure footed the chance to get ahead. Second check was found by Carol in similar jungle terrain, third check was found by Tango – apprentice front runner!!
After up, up, and up again (sure there must have been many more or at least it felt like it!!) the canopy opened up to provide some stunning views of Bandar and with a clear night and a beautiful sunset and one just wanted to stand and admire the view (there was even a bench from which one could!) and hens were questioning their location – ‘that looks like tasak lama’. I myself looked at my watch and wondered how, if we were at Tasak Lama, we could get back to Diplo in 15 mins!! The last part of the trail opened up into wide established tracks enabling runners to have a good workout – something for everyone.

The last part of the trail opened up into wide established tracks enabling runners to have a good workout – something for everyone.
On exiting the trail hens were found relaxing on the grass – were they resting before the onward journey to Diplo or was this an A2B? I’m pleased (at that stage!) to say it was an A2B – well done hares—what an excellent run.
The air conditioned bus (must have gone up in the world, as many were only used to an open back truck!) crammed with wet, smelly (no offence!!) hens got on its way back to Diplo to the dulcet tones of ‘show me the way to go home’ which to me finished off an excellent run.
The shout up saw thanks to the front horns (a duty shared) Carol, Trish and Running Bare, and the back horn – Trailblazer. Thanks to the Hares and congratulations to Tango who had completed 50 runs. Thanks also to the hares for the delicious samosas.

A beautiful evening saw the hens off into the trees. An interesting valley stretch with some muddy ups and downs. A bit of bum wriggling on a few slopes managed to slow down some ladies. The trail of hens certainly stretched out somewhat. Then up to higher ground and some nice trails, all sloping down just to make us feel that we were fitter than we really are. Rustling in the bushes with the monkeys fighting definitely got some of us running a little bit quicker too. A lovely walk/run had by all finished off with a gorgeous sunset, or was I the only one that noticed?
The checks were well set, always giving plenty of options to go and check. Lee must have been chuffed as she found all three checks – welcome back Lee!
A small number familiar with the area took a short-cut home. Shame on them!
Back at the ranch, a busy shout up in which Irene was named “Miss Sarong” and was presented with a very stylish, obviously haute-coûture changing tent, (Viva) España celebrated her birthday and …. Linda was awarded the hashit for not signing in. Then we all tucked in to sausages and salad. ¡Qué rico!

Date: 17 Apr 2007

Our Fairweather hens failed to turn up but the Diehards were there fleet of foot. Hash site looks likeVersace these days, a glam number hanging here and another draped there with a little of Jimmy Choo to boot. A tinkle of rain to whet the anticipation and then a rumble in the jungle, a flash overhead and we were off. Heads were bowed against the rain, hens under the fearless control of Claire the Front Horn and Sarah Clements following as Back Horn.
Hares laid a shortish and a long-with-a-godawful-Up to please all. ‘Though some toed the green and then stayed on the black. I’m told it was green, brown, leafy, wet and even Mulchie slipped a few times. Carol found the first check and Alison T found the last check and came out with the front runners, go you girl! While she caught her breath walking to her changing room and walk-in wardrobe, Alison did remark about someone not doing the last hill if the person could still whistle after the run! The horns got switched, and some hens dodged a few water crossings but I hear, GOOD CALLING this week ….. YIPPEE!!!! All came out tried, tired and well tested in good time.
On On celebrated the naming ceremony of Judy now Survivor, Mandy now Tango and Magi, after a re-count, a re-gig and a re-hash changed from Miss Pink errr no Miss Spain, err no Miss Blain err no Miss Plane, became Espania. Never Wrong reached the special milestone of 50 years of age, Happy Birthday! No change of Keeper of The Hashit, though maybe this week may see a batton change. Signs? Hmmmm. Announcements included “See Kay for details of the next Pula Tigga hash 13th Oct”. Hares provided scrumptious salad rolls and ham (all the way from Singapore), and another great event of hashing was had.

I arrived at the site just in time to get the last car park at the bottom of the hill, lucky old me! It then transpired that this was the very spot all the late comers were going to turn their cars round at. Oh well, somebody was bound to ram into me, I would collect the insurance and buy my BMW. Dream on, cries Smurf, who assured me that the insurance on my car wouldn’t buy a BMW, even in a match box.
Up the hill, sign in, and on command of the lovely Naj we head off into the jungle. Madam Sin was whittering on about Scotland and bracken, as far as I could see we were tramping over a pile of weeds. That soon took us into the jungle and some lovely paths. The run was very nice, the checks were fiendishly clever. On the traverse from second to third check it became very apparent that I needed new boots as it was a slippy slidy hillside, but very pretty. The whole hash was out by six o’clock. Well done to the hares.
The shout up was the usual chaotic affair with two guests welcomed, returning hashers welcomed, and three hashers given hash handles, which caused the body of the kirk to spontaneously break into song. We had a wonderful rendition of “ We’re all off to sunny Spain” followed by “ They are changing the guard at Buckingham palace” rounded off with “ I’m a Barbie girl”. Hash handles were given to Alice - Alice in Wonderland, Magi - Ms Spain and Cath Doolan - Legally Blonde.
Then the fun really started with Madam Sin’s birthday presents which she pulled out of the box and explained the purpose of each gift to much hilarity all round. The said hasher then entertained us with a brilliant presentation of that well known classic “ Rindercellar and the ugly blisters”
Thank you to all the people who contributed to the great food and the yummy chocolate cake for the birthday girl. A lovely evening which carried on long after I went home. Gordon had sworn off beer for life by Wednesday morning, well maybe till tonight.
Judy celebrated 300 runs, Trailblazer 250 and Tina 200 runs respectively.

RUN 2015 - 2 APRIL 2007
SITE: Bukit Markucing, Subok
HARES: Carol/Trish
FRONT HORN: Claire with assistant Mandy
BACK HORN: Mad Marg
There had been slight confusion as to where the run was going to start as we knew the on on was at Carol’s house but the run? After some clarification the hares were convinced that the run must start from Markucing or they would risk the hashit if the coop was to cross the road! Sorry hashit holder Madmarg (you have to keep the hashit a while longer) – we have been kind to our hares – so hashers please do read your hash rules, they do make good bedtime reading when you are desperate for something to put you to sleep!
I arrived early as was anxious to make sure the run started from the right place and was intrigued as to why the starting sign was at the lower car park. I had paced up and down right up to the usual starting steps and could not find any “on” paper and when Glamour and Veronica L arrived to start their walk – they indicated that it was just close by towards the road! It sure take some seasoned hashers to be vigilant…… We had also been warned about keeping on paper especially when checking as there were lots of paper around but we did not find find too much paper around (I guess the hares having been lost for 6 hours while recceeing could not remember where or when they saw the paper!).
Then we had the next drama of having no horns, so we improvised with a real whistle for the back horn and Mandy as the whistling horn with front horn Claire. Off we trotted at 5.15 towards the main road and then veered left to a new bulldozed cutting up the hill – of the many hills – on to the ridge. We huffed and puffed and stopped and started (for the walkie talkies anyway). A sign soon appeared for short and long runs and only a dozen hens braved the long run down into the valley. We dipped into the jungle – what a relief – some shade. First check was called and as it was in front of a tree fall “on” must be up to the left which was found by Sarah B.
We then wound around the forest, up and down over logs and trips with second check found by Readymix. By this stage the front running orientals Readymix, Jenny and Trailblazer were quickly bearing on third check which was found by Jenny. Front horn Claire and Mandy caught up as we headed back up the ridge. A few – just a few - more ups and downs before we were out. I think the hares forgot to warn shorties to only go up to first check as there were a few logs that needed long legs and acrobatic stunts to get over. Great run hares and we then headed to Carol’s for the on on with “hot” laksa to follow.

RUN 2014
Date: 27 March
Site: Diplo
Hares: Alison/Cheryl/Sue
It has been a long time since we were given the choice of a short or a long run, you could see the hens milling around at the start, thinking about which run to do – should they do the short run with only one hill (as many of us had missed last week because of the school holidays) or do the long run (because we felt guilty about missing last week but this was said to have many hills)…mmm…choice! Karen was front horn and led us forward and up the path with horn firmly secured between the straps of her back pack (can’t lose the blowy bit again – surely a hashitable offence if she does) and off we went along our favourite trails at Diplo. (Unfortunately back horn was lost by Trailblazer as she could not concentrate on what to take care of first, the horn or her first time guest—in any event it did not matter—Irene in her weekend jaunt at Diplo has reportedly recovered the lost horn! Many thanks- ed)
We soon came to a split in the trail – with short run to the left and long run up on the right, decisions were made and most of the hens followed the long one. Up up and along until we were taken down into a dip for first check by the stream. Readymix went ahead at the top of the ridge so I thought I had better go down to the check and look ahead. With Karen calling “checking from here” I was fighting with the cob webs (not a good sign) for a route over the river when we heard the faint call of “on paper” from Readymix at the top of the ridge. Picking up paper and ‘on back’ the paper was laid through and we were on our way again.
Up and down hills and over streams we trouped until 2nd check which was again in another dip. Could it be back check again? Better check ahead as we (Readymix, Elaine and I ) were the ones at the front and others further back could check there. Some good trails meandered along with signs of old paper, but nothing new. In the distance we could hear the sounds of “on paper..” by Ah Struth and back we went to the check with the cob point, picking up paper until we reached the trail.
Off again until third check, nearing the back this time (as we were so far off track at last check) – we reached the check and there was a back trail that no one had taken….off I wandered, which brought me round the dip that the check point was in, and along a nice trail which kept on going and going. Ah Struth was ahead of me and again I quote from the horses mouth - “because I was so far ahead I found the paper again”.
Third check and surely the last, we were off again taking us to the extreme edges of the Diplo site. As the traffic sounds got louder and louder, we seemed to be getting closer and closer to a main road – you could even see a large road sign ……could we be at the Sungai Akar dump roundabout? Had we gone that far?.....Yep A new part for most of us and quite nice to see the stream that runs along the edge of the highway in the dip and then up a ridge for an elevated view. Back into the jungle along good trails we walked, very happy to see signs for Way Out until we were back. A good long run taking the front runners at least until 6.35 to come in, not so good maybe for Trailblazer’s first time guest as it was rather a long run. A late but short shout up with more amber liquid consumed than usual and then some well earned ‘fill your own rolls’ to end the evening with. Many thanks—hares for a great run and food.—ed

A small but select group of runners set off to the sound of Naj’s pretend horn at 5.15 last Tuesday. I hadn’t been at this site before and had a few problems finding it in the first instance, (and getting my leg over the fence. Long, graceful legs don’t seem to run in my family. If you’ll pardon the pun!) - but here I was sitting with Naj having a chat and waiting for the ladies to come back out of the jungle. Then Trailblazer appeared and said she had heard from the hares and they couldn’t find their way out! However, all was well and eventually Dizzy and Jenny made an appearance.
Every time Alison and I plan to do a hash something always happens and sure enough the fates had been working against us. Alison had a sore leg after a fall at Lucky Gardens and I had this blooming chest infection. However, we needed to do the words and our co-hare Sue was on Pulau Tiga, so gallantly, sore leg and all, Alison set off to do her best.
We would like to report that it was a ‘very nice hash’ with a bit of up, down and across.
The checks were found by Cath, Karen and Clare (twice!)
Dizzy told me that she and Jenny had rec’ced three times for this hash and each time they had come out at a different location! I think it is a blooming miracle that anyone can find their way around in the jungle. It all looks the same to me!
The shout up was a civilized affair with the hares being thanked, no horns to thank because there were no horns. A new member of the Ladies Hash, Julie was presented with the rules of the hash. I can’t remember if there were any announcements! No hash shit was given or received.
The hares provided delicious food for everyone. Thanks for the food and laying the run girls.
Alison and I set off early to pick up the hash signs. That was not quite as easy as it sounds. We had to risk life and limb to rescue them from traffic islands on the highway. My goodness, the traffic travels at the speed of sound down that road!

Well done to Glamour and Veronica. They completed the run, found all the checks and left the paper in impeccable order so that the rest of us could enjoy it too. Furthermore, hashers came out within about 10 minutes of each other which is another sign of a well laid run (and good checks—ed). And the third is that I found my first check after three years of hashing, so very well done hares.
Front runners set off at a fine pace as usual but were well stumped at the first check. I arrived to find a gaggle of clucking hens all standing around vacantly and asking each other where the check was. No no no.
Girls this is not the idea, it will not be found that way. A further stroll in any direction is all it takes. Sue Johnson got us going again, down hill all the way and along a bit to second check. Don't know who found that one.(Sorry to whoever it was. I know the thrill it would give you to see your name in print, well, I do now.) Past some thorny things and some bushy things, both with rather nice leaves, and also some of those razor leaves that I always think would make a rather good ash tray - Ahh times gone past me thinks…
Anyway I picked some up and spent the rest of the run being scratched to death, and goodness knows why I bothered as they are still in Fiona's boot, (she's Heather's car).
Third check was over the stream and on a bit and boy, was that an achievement to find, an incredibly difficult check I might say. (Except for the two seniors who actually spotted the footprints….. And the artificial implants! - ED) A gentle trot by a stream is always a rather pleasant thing to do, (especially when you are in the lead,) even if it does come to an end when the paper stops.
Fourth check was a bit of a give away, as an indiscrete five bar gate had been erected across a rather obvious trail. A bit of a clue I felt. Needless to say, fourth check was also found by me.
The shout up was at Mandy's with excellent food to feed the hungry hens. Judging by the amount of jacket potatoes the 5000 were obviously expected but I thought we made a very respectable dint.
Well done hares and thanks.
(The advice of taking a phone is to be heeded as yours truly being backhorn was not too much of a help as got hopelessly lost at first check and could not hear nor find the pack—this is where calling is important for those who have gone off checking—I should have tied Jenny’s hand to mine so we would be checking together—another hint for checking always go in pairs. As I did not have my phone for the first time ever! I was determined not to live up to my hashhandle again—I followed the stream for a while and found some old paper and came out just before the 1st runner came out. I came out by the power substation where we last started the hash from.– Ed)

6 MARCH 2007

HARES: Trailblazer/Tina/Judy
FRONT HORN: Readymix
BACK HORN: Jane W
It’s me again!! Sorry. Late arrival due to ‘contact time’ aka ‘boring waste of time meeting’. Just in time to see the pack head off uphill past the huts and outbuildings of the Lo estate!
As per, the “Three Hashketeers” Madam Sin, Jan M and I headed off following paper, uphill following the rest, who this week, were following….. - paper! Shock! Horror! Lots of trips and cut bits to clamber over as we headed through the bracken with side views of the Singapore Army Camp.
Approaching the top, we could hear lots of shouts and laughing. No. it wasn’t the pack but a group of young foreign workers having an impromptu game of football at their building site. Polite greetings were exchanged. They were ‘malu’ (shy) but informed us a) where the paper was, and b) the way to cut out to J Muara. But being ‘malas’ (lazy) we wished them ‘Selamat tinggal’and returned the way we came.
As we tripped downhill, we were overtaken by the pack which had completed the lollipop and were rushing homeward down the stick! First check was found by Vania and 2nd by Karen P – well done ladies. Mandie noted that the paper was extra big this week and it was very much appreciated because of her short-sightedness!!
A sedate group amassed under the tent for gossip and refreshments. Thanks to front horn Readymix and back Jane W. Many thanks also to the hares, Judy Tina and Yann for a short run and delicious satay. Special thanks to Judy who laid the out trail so expertly. Awards went to Sarah B for 50 runs and greetings were extended to birthday girls Naj and Cath – and so the night progressed. On On!

5.13, and Carol and Running Bare went off for a quick recce. Easily finding paper they tooted us off and hared off in the direction of the road, followed at a more leisurely pace by the pack, followed at an even more sedate stroll by Jan M, Madam Sin and yours truly. After admonishing the security for having lights on in the day, we have since heard the self same lights go off at 8pm!! (a strange insight into power wastage - perhaps we should have informed David Bellamy, we limboed under the barrier and up the old road. Soon we came upon 2 fairly inexperienced hashers who called back “There’s no paper ahead” so they quite correctly joined us on the shredded paper leading clearly up the hill in a leftwards fashion.
It wasn’t long before we heard a lot of huffing and puffing, as well as strange calls and hoots from hashers and horns. What WAS happening? The whole pack then trundled past us mumbling and muttering. Rosemary commented that she had almost been at the top, returned to start and then back up the trail again (a sort of masochistic snakes and ladders I think!) Was it a repeat of last year’s Chinese yew Years Run which got stuffed up by front runners ‘off’ paper. Or was it a misguided New Zealand run, ‘Baa! Baa!’ Get it? The blind leading the blind!! I don’t know what went wrong as the new paper was clear for all to see. But… there were hashers and callers everywhere. Mad Marg was at the bottom of the clearing, on her mobile, trying to contact her mates who had crossed the clearing and headed up the hill, with nary a piece of paper within 400m!Tis Alice was horning from a check on a stick! We heard some strange comments like – “It doesn’t matter if there is no paper we will get there anyway!” Honestly Ladies. I don’t like to carp and moan but… a lot of work is put into laying a run, and it’s not fair to assume the paper will go the same way as last time. Keep your eyes peeled and if there is NO paper or only OLD paper, you are seriously off, so DON’T follow it!! And… learn the rules about calling, important for everyone’s safety.
Luckily, everyone rejoined the lovely clear trail, which I heard continued, and had been strimmed to aid our way. And over to Nellie, who had a VERY successful run, finding 2 checks I hear. (so Nellie promised.. So she can write bout her glory of finding one ... No two ... checks in her 10 years of runnint - but she was so excited about her Myanmar (Burma for the colonials) sojourn with John that she must have run out of time and henswords did not get a peep out of her except whether she should or could take her lap top to Myanmar. Yours truly was on holiday mood as well relaxing at the spit with The yacht club and did not get her message till boarding time! Perhaps she had intended sending me a write up in between transit time in Bangkok!
Third check was found by Karen Mc. The hens were out in good time ready for the CNY on on the Orientals had put on. Tina was busy homecooking the veggies and traditional CNY fayre. The roasted chickens and duck went down a treat as did the Yee Shang as the Hens wished in a prosperous "Pig" year. Thanks ladies. On on!

As I drove past the site in the opposite direction, the worry of getting to the site played on my confidence as I had thought I had worked out how to get there not from my usual starting location. After going off two exits and still finding myself going towards Gadong and Muara on the wrong highway, a quick call back to site was needed to give some last minute instructions for the run in case I was late for the start of the run.
To my relief I got there in time to do a few chores and the announcement. The run had been published as "all can go round" so the hens that gathered were raring to go waiting for the fronthorn to start them off. Soon we all took off down the ankle breaking stoney rocky slope towards the beach. Having past some staff quarters, heavy machinery idling we turned right and went along the beach for a while. The landscape on the right had dramatically changed since our last visit to the site and some grass planting and terracing had taken place with not a tree in sight. I noticed a few fishermen at the breakwater trying their hand getting some dinner. Soon the hens had come to a halt as they had struck a ravine, so “checking from here” was heard.
Yours truly was right at the back having started late as usual and on hearing the call amongst the milling of the other hens starting checking at the back and soon found the on “back” following the old trek where we once could drive along albeit more safely with a 4WD vehicle. We soon veered left up the newly planted sloping “lawn” to find ourselves along the mentioned culvert and soon second check was called.
Some braved climbing a bit further up and 2nd check on “forward” was called by yours truly “again” from where the storm drain used to be lined with bushes but now showing bare concrete and broken paths. As we gingerly crossed over the old storm drain and back on to more flat area where one could see recent tracks of huge machineries we soon caught sight of the workmen huts and were soon up the small incline of ankle breaking terrain again back to the tent. The sand had slowed the fast runners and good checks kept us all together and we were all out within the hour.
We welcomed first time guest Julia - a new teacher at ISB. After the shout-up we were treated to delicious “chilli” and vegetarian lasagna homemade by the hares which we thoroughly enjoyed accompanied by bread rolls.
The rain that had stayed off soon arrived and the few diehards stayed till about 9 pm apparently thro some quite stormy rain which we discovered had brought down some trees and lamp posts on the highway when we drove past to go home. Apparently few that had left earlier were caught up at the highway as the trees was right across and they had to wait till it was cleared. I think those who stayed behind had the better option albeit a bit wet and cold! The local rag had reported next morning that one of the buses that we passed parked along the highway had been hit but luckily with little damage and no passengers on board. Thanks hares for a great run and grub.

Run 2008
13 Feb 2007
Site: Rimba Executive Housing
Hares Madmarg, Naj, Amanda S & Sarah B
What’s this??? A barrier across our wonderful Rimba site? Not another site lost, how disappointing, but we were pleasantly surprised by our elegantly decorated underground Den of Lust with hearts and gossamer swags. Oh forget the glamour… we were off at our appointed time onto the black hard land and on into the ever diminishing vegetation. Hornies Karen and Carol took the honkers and we were off. A little climb on hands and knees to get up and in. Around and around, up and down, checking from where??? Checking ahead??? Checking from back??? Now how could that be? Oh for goodness sake Chickies, how are the walkies and talkies ever supposed to figure out which way you had gone? “Checking from here” ONLY if you are standing ON the check please Chicks. Don't forget to lay it through from the check.
Pretty scenery and still some pitcher plants left. Slippy slidey, icky sticky, now was that a hill on the way out or was that a….. great hill. A good workout for the quickies and a lovely walk for the walkies and talkies.
On On with lots of announcements and a lucky draw of Valentine’s Day gifts (thank you generous hares) Hashit finally changed hands, Magi your Valentine’s Day outfit was just asking to be dampened……. buuuuuuuut forgetting to take the hashit bucket home may be cause for another dunking. Yummy cakes for afters, thanks again to our hares.
This weeks run is a walk in the park… well almost finished park we think. Hopefully no ropes will be required and should see you back on site for another trot if you so feel inclined.

RUN NO. 2007
Date: 6 February 2007
Site: Lucky Gardens
Hare: Juergen
Front Horn: Kirstie (now known as “Tiger Bum”
Back Horn: Trailblazer
We started off from a new location for me, LBT Electro Platers at Lucky Gardens. Down the street we went, scrambled over a bulldozed site, and right away came to a steep hill we were promised in the summary of today’s run. After that it was a dry and easy-going path to 1st check. At the check there were several possible trails, but the on paper was found fairly quickly at the top of the hill by one of the frontrunners (later I found out it was Carol, * see below for how I know that).
A short time after, the paper seemed to run out. “Not again!” the hens were moaning, remembering the hash of two weeks’ ago. Some thought that at 1st check we had actually found a different check and were going the wrong way around. Anyway, while we were debating and looking around for paper, someone found more paper on ahead, so off we raced again. Through the scenic jungle, across a bridge, and then we came to a big hill (wait a minute, wait a minute…… didn’t we read somewhere about hills “at the beginning only?”)
At that point the pack got a little separated. I could hear lots of shouting ahead. So there were either lots of checks or exciting things happening in front (I heard later there were “4 or 5 checks.” We arrived at the big open construction clearing and were faced with – guess what – another hill. But that was it, we were out.
At the shout up, we said goodbye to Kirstie, who’s been a faithful and avid hasher, but who’s going home (far, far away – the Hebrides or some such remote place.) Tiger beer and bottoms were discussed, a laminated souvenir of her hash days was presented, and a down down was drunk in her honour.
*The finder of 1st check, Carol, was rewarded by our Honorary Hare Juergen with a pair of skimpy, lacy, sexy, red knickers. She promptly tried them on and modelled them for us and the camera (outside her clothes, I hasten to add, in case anyone reading this will think the Ladies Hash is losing its normally high moral standards!!)
Juergen also spoiled us all by presenting each of us with a little heart. And, to the ladies’ delighted whistles, he did a mini strip tease while he tried on his brand new Ladies Hash hare t-shirt! Thanks to Juergen for the run, the hearts, and the delicious shwarma that followed.

30 January 2007
Site: Kg Mata-Mata
Hares: Madmarg/Kiera
Front Horn: Karen P
Back Horn: Jane
Special Awards: Jan Murphy - 100 runs Sarah H & Karen P - 50 runs
We started in Mata-Mata on time, 5.15 pm and went following the frontrunners into the jungle. We expected a run up the pylon track, but after a short distance we turned right. First it seemed very snug, we had good running-trails, just a bit slippery, but lead in fantastic landscape with big ferns and rare plants. We crossed the stream many times, I stopped counting and I’m not sure, whether it was the same one or different streams each time.
The 1st check was found by Magic Roundabout and was far enough to get the feet wet and muddy. Impressive lush vegetation all the way up and down along the stream made the time to the 2nd check go by quickly. Again it was found by Magic Roundabout. Marvellous, at the last steep hill we were supported by a rope, and climbed up to have a beautiful view over Mata-Mata and the newly built bungalows. Soon we reached the on on-site and were ready for the shout-up.
Down down was given to the hares Madmarg and Kiera. Thank you for the great run!!!• Sarah & Karen P was called up for their 50 runs. Not forgetting Jan Murphy, she got a down-down for her 100 runs, Carol celebrated her birthday. And…..Very sad for all of us, Rosemarie has to go back to U.K. She received a warm fare-well with a down-down. Hope she will be back soon!!
Thanks to the Front-Horn Karen and the Back-Horn Jane. Last but not least, thanks for the revival drinks, the delicious samosas and the cake we all enjoyed.

Sarah(Bailey): “Very muddy and a lot of streams – good workout!”
Magic Roundabout: “Great run. A cunning start up the pylon-trail, only to have a sharp right turn into the jungle. Wet, muddy, slippery. We crossed 10 streams one time, or one stream 10 times? 1st check, 2nd check was found by yours truly(Me!!!!) An exiting and rare event. 3rd check was found by Claire. A rope was provided at one of the very steep parts, thank you hares, but what about the last bit, my fingernails will never be the same.”
Jan Murphy: “Magnificient views of “Kampong Desperate”!
Great journalism by Gaby. Still some of Mata-Mata left.”

RUN 2005 - 23 January 2007
Hares: Bini Hutan, Bettina & Gaby
Front Horn: Trish
Back Horn: Mad Marg
New Members: Norma & Angela
Special Awards: Black Beauty 200 runs.
The very popular Simpang 370-86 was host to this weeks hash, and as a new comer, it certainly was nice to know which way to get to the start location. Many thanks to Sigi for the fine hospitality, we left her comfortable alfresco area and departed through the back gate to the jungle.
What a lovely run, well established paths and paper clearly marking the trails, the first check was far enough into the jungle to be sufficiently warmed up and ready for exercise, we traveled up through the grass and located check number one, it was hard to hear the hens calling the checking for the noise of the heavy duty machinery in operation nearby, we headed up to the ridge line and hit, by surprise what looked like a desert, and the destruction of such beautiful jungle gave way to fallen trees, erosion and read clay piled high, such a sad sight to be had, we climbed our way down the vacant land across the construction site trail and up quickly back up the other side into the jungle.
There was a few bridges to climb across clear streams, check number 2 proved to be a little more of a challenge to locate, with hens going in all directions before finally the ON ON was heard up ahead. Back on the trail again we headed for the next check, I could hear the sound of cars whizzing by and was surprised to see the Mentiri road so close to our path.
The paper abruptly ended before check 3 and the lead pack knew something was not right, it was not long before the pack was all back together and agreed to follow Heather out of the jungle as no paper could be found.
A communication break down resulted in a few hens remaining in the jungle after dark, but thanks to the help of a few, all came out a little weary and ready for the shout up.
Thanks to Sigi, Bettina & Gaby for the scrumptious food- especially the meat loaf that was brought in from Germany!
