RUN NO. 2531 MENTERI FALLS 21 FEB 2017

RUN NO. 2531
DATE: 21 FEB 2017
SITE: MENTERI FALLS - CNY RUN
HARES: TRAILBLAZER/JOTB/READYMIX/LMG/SIAW YAN

A bottleneck of hens clad in red and maroon T-shirts headed up the initial steep incline into the jungle. Itchy Feet leading the runners at the front, and Sarah B guarding the walkie-talkies at the back. A pleasant, straight forward 4km route with two checks.  Mrs Pingu with her ritualistic act of dashing past the walkers half way through the run and Led Astray elbowing her way through the talkers at the end.  No mishaps in the jungle itself. But one of our new members, Sophie decided not to sign out until she was comfortably safe at the onon…oops!  I think Meryl could be partly to blame there. Also LMG provided the H3 committee with photographic evidence of a basket of car keys left behind the signing board – with the absence of Psycho, our very own Ripper found guilty of that offence..  So plenty of hashit to be had!

Shout up hosted at JOTB’s huge house on  Jalan Kebangsan, beautifully decorated with red lanterns hanging from the ceilings to drive off bad luck.. and bowls overflowing with golden orange kumquats and mandarins to bring in good luck and wealth.  JOTB and Readymix beautifully dolled up in their exquisite ruby red cheongsams and Trailblazer proudly showing off her Kid’s hash rooster Tshirt.

As the skies grew dark, Readymix started the evening at 7pm with a wonderful fire display.  Brave red hens, realising this was not a planned event, quickly came to the rescue and had the fire doused. But no water could douse the sudden fire within Readymix who nearly turned into a Chinese fireball.

Many announcement at the shout up… this Sunday all day garage sale at Alison’s  - lots of good stuff and some trash… let everyone know including your amah’s.  Wiggle order, if you want shoes or any other stuff that you can buy from the site, then get on to it at: wiggle.co.uk and inform Gin Trap soon! If you’re not sure on your shoe size, then just try on someone’s stinky shoes ideally before they’ve gone on a run. Sarah B announced Seranai Singers performance at the RBYC coming up on 3rd and 4th March, so be great if many of you ladies can go along and support. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and children and include a not so light buffet.  As regards Red Dress on 4th April, please feel free to give any donations for prizes for the raffle draw to Pedigree Pup. Ripper has reminded us all to please be discreet when drinking the blues and reds after run. If you need to pick up receipt for your subs, then go see Ripper or Psycho.

What a delicious spread was had.  We started off with a dish called Lo Yee Sang. The dish comprised of many elements with veggies ‘n fruits; the key ingredients being fish (smoked salmon) to represent continuous business “yee sang”. As a circle of hard working ladies toss it together “Lo” with our chopsticks we create the continuous flow of business.  JOTB drizzled it all with seasonings ‘n condiments (honey, plum sauce, lemon juice, sesame seeds, peanuts, crisps, five spices and ground pepper… thus representing the essence of life – sweet, bitter, spicy, inspiring, unpredictable, overwhelming, interesting and so on…  A circle of ladies tossed it together “Lo” with our chopsticks, thus creating a continuous flow of business.  And that was just the starter!!!  This tasty dish was followed by a delicious main meal: steamed rice, veggie stir fry meehoon, steamed chicken with ginger, spring onion sauce, sweet & sour red snapper fish fillet, vegetarian spring rolls,, mixed veggies and braised beef cutlets. With bellies bursting to the brim, we were then treated to chocolate birthday cake and balls of glutinous rice. Satiated stomachs, we headed home to bed.
The hares so grateful that all us ladies enjoyed the run and took part in this ancient custom and culture, celebrating the Chinese Lunar New year and ushering the year of the Golden Rooster. Gong Xi Fa Cai & Wang Shu Ru Yi!

RUN NO. 2530 LUCKY GARDENS 14 FEB 17

RUN NO. 2530
DATE: 14 FEB 2017 - VALENTINES
SITE: LUCKY GARDENS
HARES: GERI/JANINE/KATE/TRACY/PSYCHO

Arrived at Lucky Gardens site a bit earlier than my norm and saw some hens had already parked at the side ner the entry into the jungle. However, as I turned the car around to park it up I saw a man at the back of one of the cars! Alarm bells started ringing and scenes of hashit filled my mind. As I was putting on my shoes and I saw a few more men roll up, it suddenly hit me that it was one of those very rare Tuesdays that men are allowed the ladies hash. Good thing I didn't cry wolf earlier!

After a short briefing by Psycho that the run is about 6 km but mostly flat (yea right its Lucky Gardens!) and to look for pink hearts in the jungle, the front horn was tooted by Mrs Pingu who had made it to hash with a few minutes to spare. Up the runners went through the entrance to Lucky Gardens that used to have the shack and is now well inhabited by very vicious mosquitoes. I hung back with Pedigree Pup and Siaw Yan for the bottleneck to clear knowing we were going to take it slow and be walkie talkies. In we went through the grass, over some logs, up and down some bumps, saw the lake to our right but thankfully steered away from it (we remember what happened to Icy Bitch last time) and up a hill! Huff Puff! Last time I was in Lucky
Gardens together with Psycho we came up with our own little Mozzie Wonderland song. Must try and remember it!

Not long after noticing a cute little bridge built to help little ones or furry friends go over a log, we came out at a clearing to the fence of the government building off the Menteri highway (I can never remember what its called), stayed alongside it for a bit before going back into the jungle. A couple of big, wobbly bridges later, we thought we would come back out at a different section of Lucky Gardens but it turns out it was a lollipop run! A small lollipop with a very long stick! We caught up with back horn Rachel F and Never Wrong and stayed with them for the remainder of the way back out on to the road to sign out. The coconut water was very refreshing after that long walk!

Janine's place was a lovely stilt house on top of a hill with a big garden that had been decorated with hearts, balloons and lots of pink and red. Everyone was already enjoying the lovely breeze, punch prepared by the hares and, of course, additional beverages from hash bar.  The price increase did not deter sales especially of the reds. Blue does not seem so popular anymore since our dear Smurf's departure. While the food was being set up, shout up started and silence was more effectively obtained by the sight of Psycho and her 'little' water gun. Hares were thanked, horns were thanked, guests were given punch after they strutted up to the front then all told to get lost to clear the way for prizes for people who had found some lonely pink hearts in the jungle. Little pink packages were handed out and the contents modelled by the lucky winners. Funny how much excitement little scraps of material can cause.

Announcements for kids hash this Sunday at Sleazy Gardens, tickets for Serunai Singers performing on 3rd and 4th March for sale by Sarah B, more parties at Janine's for this Saturday and next, blah blah blah. Most important announcement was of the ladies red dress run which will be held on 4th April. Men are allowed to attend providing they wear red dresses and are most welcome to tart up with wigs, heels, mini skirts etc. In order to raise more money for the red dress run charity of choice, the ladies hash will also have a lucky draw with excellent prizes. All hash chapters will be able to purchase some through various representatives. As there were no calls for hashit and some had already received a few sprinkles from Psycho's tun, it was then time to form an orderly queue for the delicious food catered by the hares for the night.

Next run: Menteri Waterfalls - Chinese New Year run.
Onon will be at JOTBs. Please bring a chair, wear red or cheong-sams, and park sensibly.

RUN NO. 2529 DIPLO 7 FEB 17

RUN NO. 2529
DATE: 7 FEB 2017
SITE: DIPLO - WAITANGI DAY
HARES: FOOTLOOSE/MGTS/SQUEAK/TWINKLE TOES

After a week of grey days and stormy skies, we were lucky to arrive at a sun-bathed Diplo site last Tuesday. With eager beaver, Patsy, on front horn and the Satnav-dependent, Where's Wally, coming up the rear. Thanks ladies. After taking the usual sandy approach into the jungle, it soon became clear that this was going to be a muddy one. The tropical rains had done their worst and turned the leafy paths into a swampy quagmire.

As we battled our way through fallen trees and foliage, the hum of cicadas was drowned out by the screams and yelps of the H3 ladies. Hills were tackled not with the normal skill and finesse but with slipping, sliding and a whole lot of sweating. Half way through the boggy trail, one hasher's shoes fell victim to the swamp, never to be seen again.

Thankfully for some of the muddier hashers, there was a fork in the path, giving the option of a shorter run. The rest of the gang battled on to complete a very enjoyable 5K of stream-hopping and vine-dodging, the later sunsets allowing us all to make it safely out of the jungle before dark.

The shout up this week was one to be remembered, commencing with Kiwi-shaped ginger biscuits and a tricky quiz in celebration of Waitangi Day (NZ's national day). Squeak, Twinkle Toes, Miss Goody Two Shoes and Footloose ensured we are now educated on the key features of New Zealand and were even subjected to a light spot of bribery in exchange for a trip to their beautiful country. Nothing wrong with that.

As if this wasn't enough excitement for one Tuesday evening, one hasher was lucky enough to be inaugurated after a slight case of 'parking irresponsibly' a few weeks ago at Kapok Kanan. Serena will henceforth be known as 'In too Deep' and is hoping her truck and the ditch will not be meeting again any time soon.

RUN NO.2528 KAPOK KANAN 31JAN 17

RUN NO. 2528
DATE: 31 JAN 2017
SITE: KAPOK KANAN
HARES: Mrs Pingu/Edna

Last Tuesday we were blessed with a beautiful, clear, sunny day with not even the threat of rain.  And so it was, in the sweltering heat of the late afternoon, we all gathered at Kapok Kanan keen and eager to tackle the run.  Not even the thought of that rather daunting climb up the Serasa hill was enough to dampen our spirits on this glorious afternoon.

Just before run time Psycho called for people to volunteer to be horns and Merryl (front horn) and Tracy (back horn) quickly volunteered, well done ladies.  5.15 quickly rolled around and off we all went towards the in trail. From there we went up.  And up.  And up.  Luckily for me there was a bit of a plateau about half way up where I was able to catch my breath before heading up again (yep, sadly the up’s were not all done yet.)

Once we reached the top of the hill (mountain?) it was along the trail in a slightly different direction to what we normally would.  For those of us who thought we knew the area quite well this was indeed a pleasant change, especially as it was a bit of an easier route than previously used to get to our destination.

The trail was absolutely gorgeous (as the jungle always is in Brunei) and led us to a large rock face called (by Lone Ranger) the Wailing Wall.  From there the trail twisted on and off the ridge before finally reaching the exit down past the pondoks and along the slippery concrete path.  Along the way were three checks of which check 1 was apparently the worst (“the most fiendish”, “the most dastardly”, “the most tricky” were some of the adjectives I heard used to describe it).

After exiting the jungle it was it was time for some hard earned libations and a bit of socializing before the shout-up.  After thanking the hares and the horns we got down to the nitty-gritty.  We had two FTGs, one from the UK and one from America.  There were no new members L.  A few announcements were announced, including some information (BYO boyfriend/husband/love of your life/dog …) about the upcoming Valentines Day run (aptly on Valentines Day, Feb 14).

Next week’s run is the Waitangi Day Run (celebrating NZs national day).  Don’t forget to wear black or one of your Kiwi shirts.  There will be a quiz with Kiwi prizes so brush up on your NZ knowledge.

RUN NO. 2527 SPG 370 JLN MUARA KG SG TILONG - 24 JANUARY 2017

RUN NO.2527
DATE: 24 JANUARY 2017
SITE: SPG 370 JLN MUARA, KG SG TILONG - AUSTRALIA DAY RUN
HARES: The Aussie crew:

As I read the FB write up and packed for the hash – a new invention came to mind. Hash Shoes with adjustable treads. Imagine a shoe that you can turn on the studs for the jungle run, hide them away for the road run and get out a ski shoe for the soggy moonscape! That is the sort of hash shoe you needed for this run.  Remember you read about this first and I have just submitted the patent !!

So more about the run – it was a lovely combination- a bit of jungle trails, the familiar moonscape and then out on the road; some flats and some hills – just enough to keep you working.  First check, so I am told was found by Merrill, with 2nd check by Lykke, both not so tricky if you are familiar with the area.  The Green Ribbons must have blended in with the trees because I didn’t find them, but some eagle eyed hashers spotted them and were rewarded at the shout up with some free Australian goodies.

The shout up was full of fun and merriment, despite the onset of rain and the thundering skies.  No first time guests nor awards…(Patsy's 100th run - ed) but oh yes there was a hash-it.  Gracefully taken by Sarah C. Reminder to all – always sign yourself out even if someone says they will do it for you! Or you thought someone ticked you out!! A great job by JM who managed to keep the rabble in order. Fantastic generosity by the Australian Hares who adorned us with gifts, prizes, a quiz and some good old tucker of sausages.

Info about next weeks run – Kapok Kanan – so yes you can expect hills and lovely views – a 5 km run according to Sports Tracker and you will be rewarded with Laksa at the shout up (so don’t wear any white hash t-shirts!)

RUN NO. 2526 MCFARM 17JAN16

RUN NO. 2526
DATE: 17 JAN 2016
SITE: MCFARM (B to A)
HARES: Rimba Elite Athletes

Well d like to say that at 5.15 the horn went as usual, however due to insane traffic coming off the Tungku Link, I have no idea! I was stuck in a queue to even exit the link, never mind getting to the traffic lights and turning right.

We had been informed that there were two runs tonight - a 9km B to A and a shorter 6km run from, and returning to, the tent. I managed to park up at about 5.30, as did a few others, and I saw the handful of long run runners in a car park waiting for a missing bus driver to take them to Jerudong to start their run. After a few phone calls he eventually appeared and off they went. As I was so late I decided to just do a walk on the shorter run.

Good open clear trails, a shame I didn't have time to do the whole thing. I am assured by those who arrived on time that it was a lovely run! Everyone came out smiling. And eventually at about 6.40 - our long run runners started to appear, Hash Hound leading the way, Speedy Gonzalez in hot pursuit. Everyone made it out by about 7 I think. So the shout up commenced with one very poorly JM, but she rallied through, very ably supported by her co-JM. A good one as always ladies.

This was in fact a run promoting awareness of Type 1 diabetes. Sam I Am did an amazing job of informing us about this condition. It's not something I knew much about - and still don't - but we are all now aware of how it can affect ANYBODY. Regardless of age, gender, lifestyle etc. It's quite a frightening thought that anyone at anytime could succumb to this. We now know the symptoms too and we learned about how it impacts lives and how it is manageable but such a complicated issue. Sam I Am and Fe our hats go off to you. What a strong mother-daughter team you are. We were fed an amazing pumpkin and chickpea curry - thanks ladies, all of you. A few of us stayed on a bit to put the world to rights, before packing up and heading home after another great night at H3.

This week's run is the Aussie Day run, full of the usual cultural delights, and a run with a bit of everything - road, mud, moonscape, jungle, something for everyone! After last week's guest debacle, please make sure that every single guest has an agreed sponsor before they arrive. Hashers end up being the responsibility of the hares when they have laid a run, it isn't fair for guests to be unprepared and totally unacceptable for them to turn up with no idea and no sponsor and head straight into the jungle. Safety for all is our primary concern! Then we can all enjoy our favourite  pastime with 'no worries mate' On on 👣👣👣

FRONT HORN: RYVITA  BACK HORN: PED PUP

A larger post – new year group congregated in anticipation of “the hill”. There were 2 runs on offer, one around 2.5kms and the other around 4kms.
Off we set to the sound of the horn and hit the dreaded steps. Even the front runners were spotted walking at times.
After we dropped down into a beautiful valley and were lulled into a false sense of security ...cries were heard from Bunny Girl… Here comes “the hill!”
Eventually, after huffing and puffing, we reach the ridge and the splendid view of Serasa. The choice now was to take the shorter 2.5km route back down or meander further along the ridge, enjoy more views and wind down the longer route. Most hashers opted for the greater distance.
After a very dry trek the end was insight. This included lots of long grass and very boggy ground. We returned to the on on sweaty with very muddy and soggy feet.
As we returned from the jungle there was drama and mayhem in the car park. One of our about to become hash members who had successfully conquered “the hill” was less successful in exiting the car park! Nothing a tow truck and something green couldn’t fix!
One first time guest managed to down it in one and was welcomed into the group. Three ladies joined as hash members and then the pot luck dinner was enjoyed by all.
For next week -
Long distance runners must bring a torch and be there sharp!
There will be 2 runs on offer.

DATE: 3 JAN 2017
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: HASHHOUND/LMG/GIN TRAP

Tuesday night and the jungle is calling. It has missed seeing many of the hens who have been off to different pastures. A good size group formed around the tent, pre-run to catch up on holiday activities.

Diplo was the site for the first run of the year. Oh boy! Those hills were a killer for those of us who had over indulged and not exercised during the festive season. But a great start to our New Year resolutions to get fit. A little bit of everything as promised. There were two checks that were found fairly quickly. (Sorry didn't ask who found them).

The shout up started quickly once everyone was out of the jungle and changed. There were no FTG or new members, no hash shit or announcement. For entertainment - we  were all handed a drink to toast the New Year in and pledge ourselves to obey the hash rules. The rules are there to keep everyone safe and happy, respecting all members and their needs.

The hares served up health soup, bread and pasta salad to fill our tummies and make us feel good. There was plenty for seconds. Thank you hares for a lovely run and food.

Next week's run is at Kapok Kanan. Obviously there will be at least one hill!  Please bring a plate with food to share. I always love these nights as the hens always bring such a variety of lovely food to share.

On on Wonder Woman, Gin Trap and Lara.

HARES: HOTLIPS/WONDER WOMAN

Well, 13 may be considered unlucky for some, but that was the number of brave hens who decided to venture out in the wet for the hash last week (well, that and the fact that there weren't many more in country, ha ha!). What a hash to miss! The Gurkha trail is just beautiful. Not too many hills, scenic bridges, good views, and a few places to get a run in if you wanted one! It was a bit slippery due to the rain, but that is pretty much the case for all jungle at the moment - it even took down an experienced front runner within the first hundred metres - oops! Ryvita found the first and only check, Hash Hound was front horn and JOTB was back horn (I believe!). A few hens had to hash and dash so an even smaller, more exclusive group headed to Hot Lips' abode for delicious veggie curry and rice and banana cake, yum yum. Thanks for the hospitality Hot Lips.

HARES: YOGI BEER/TRAILBLAZER/ICY BITCH

The rain poured copiously down in the early afternoon but it didn’t deter the seasoned hashers who turned up torches in hand and ready to take on the challenge. The sign indicated that the run was 3.5 - 4 km. A good indicator. This information was duly noted  and a few of us very wisely went to first check only as it was quite dark under the canopy and very muddy and slippy. The rest who decided to go the full length came out around 7pm.

The fun and festivities began at Yogi beers place. What a fabulous spread was laid out for all. The hash sponsored the fab turkey and there was wonderful contributions by the ladies to complete the feast.

Only one first time guest who was Icy bitches mum. She joined in well with all the fun. Songs were sung and mulled wine devoured. Funny how we all sing so well after a wee drink or two!.
Secret santa produced some lovely gifts and no one was disappointed. Very christmassy in preparation for xmas time.

A Big thank you to the hares for their fab effort to make the xmas run special and memorable.

 The xmas presents are opened,
The xmas turkeys cooked.
Mince pies eaten in abundance
The chocolates not overlooked.
The waistline rapidly expanding,
The full feeling never gone.
What shall we do to undo this fun
I know…..We’ll do a run
See you all at this weeks run.

RUN NO. 2521 LUCKY GARDENS 13DEC16

RUN NO. 2521
DATE: 13 DEC 2016
SITE: LUCKY GARDENS
Front horn: Yogi Beer
Back horn: Icy Bitch

We all arrived in our hoards, for the time of year, for a perfect runner's run in Lucky Gardens but it may need renaming " Unlucky gardens" as once again, the second check was tampered with prior to the arrival of the front runners. More about that later.

Off we set to the loud parp of the real horn. We hit the moonscape and then went in on the left to soon find our first check. After a good hunt, Welsh Chloe found the on paper at the top of a hill. Good work fellow Welshie! Good calling from all hares during the check.

As mentioned previously, the beautiful undulating run, which we were all thoroughly enjoying, suddenly became a conundrum. What seemed like a check behind a big, rotund tree was missing the tell tale plastic bag with paper inside! All that remained were 4 pieces in a sort of circle. Whoever the perpetrator was then scattered the paper on the trail very sparsely, so we kept going until we hit the T junction that took us towards the fence! You know where I mean!

Decision was made to made an about turn, once all hares returned from thorough checking of course, and Patsy called the connaissant Pee Wee to solve the mystery.

In due course, the on paper was found thanks to Footloose and Patsy, with huge sighs of relief, happily we trotted home. Well, nearly! A rickety old bridge decided enough was enough and poor Icy Bitch took the brunt of it and ended up trapped waist high in water! LMG bravely came to the rescue, entering the water and lifting away the obstructing log. Phew!! Thank you so much Rachael! You are a ðŸŒŸ.

As night fell, the last of the hens sortied the jungle and we happily headed off to Rachel's  (a different Rachel to Rescue Rachael!) most beautiful abode. Some swam, some just relaxed with a cold one as a fine evening ensued. Delicious food at the shout up. A reminder about Xmas arrangements for next week, namely to enjoy some Secret Santa ðŸŽ… fun should you wish and bring a nibble if you can. Turkey will be proved courtesy of the Hash.

RUN NO. 2520
DATE: 6 DEC 2016
SITE: MATA-MATA
HARES: RYVITA/LYKKE/MERRIL/SARAH

So it really was the actual day of Saint Nicholas so those of us who had forgotten to leave our shoes out or hadn’t had them filled with coins were able to get their Saint Nick fix at the hash.  About 45 of us assembled amongst the dust and construction trucks of Mata Mata.  The tent hadn’t arrived but we optimistically trotted into the jungle up the rough road not sure what to expect but what a pretty run it was!  It was loooong (various apps recorded it as 5.09, 5.2 and 5.89 but in my book just loooong suffices) lots of great bridges and for the walkie talkies a great sunset.  Some hills and one b…h of a hill - I naively thought, don’t worry, just get to the top of this and you’re nearly done …. then I remembered who’d set this run and realised that hill was no where near the finish!!  Came out to find tent up and all good - this is smooth running H3 after all (no pun intended ….)

We celebrated the 4 hares in height order - Ryvita, Lykke, Sarah and Merrill (last 2 were virgins) all sporting rather smart flashing Santa hats.  Our JMs sported rather splendid Saint Nick hats too

Then a Brit, Canadian and South African walked into a pub ….. no wait it’s not joke time yet - that’s the 3 first time guests - Sarah, Darlene and Micheline.  No new members

And then CHOCOLATE got handed out to those who found the little strips of paper with Saint Nick on.  For those who didn’t find any there were no tears because there was chocolate, chocolate and chocolate for dessert!

Talking of tears - then came the presentation of bells and The Book to Smurf leaving Brunei after … how many years? 19 or 29? Very long anyway, like the run. Psycho was so emotional that she told Smurf “hello, thank you, welcome, bugger off”.  When Smurf arrived in Brunei there was a waiting list for the ladies hash (all good things come to those who wait), when she was able to join she just brought herself (she was the founder of H4).  Total of 803 runs. She will be missed - Smurf and hashing are synonymous right?

To help us get over this emotional part of the evening we had some entertainment - RADA are booking flights as I type - hashing is serious stuff so this was a live performance of “checking” - so we had “checking from here” then disperse, find paper, on on paper, relay, keep calling or something like that and somebody mentioned a quiz next week ….

We had a hash shit and it wasn’t Peachy Keen!  Poor old Sharon - took it like a pro - her guest put her name down but no tick out or in, ooops

We tucked into yummy dribbly Laksa.  Thanks hares, a great run and evening.

RUN NO. 2519 DIPLO 29 NOV 2016

RUN NO. 2519
DATE: 29 NOV 2016
SITE: DIPLO - BITCH OF A RUN
HARES: JMs/GM PSYCHO/RIPPER/HHOUND

Well, we were promised a Bitch of a Run and it certainly didn't disappoint. The hares had started to backtrack both physically and metaphorically, saying it was a short one after all, trees were down, wada wada wada, but still BRING A TORCH. I smelled a ploy: the hares wanted to lull us into a false sense of security. It reminded me of the Macmillan Cake bake run, or Cakegate, if you will. We were assured that it would be a short gentle run because the hares wanted us back out eating cakes. But then oh the pain, it was a hell of a run with a cunning and dastardly third check and when we got out we were made to eat gruel before we could get our grubby hands on the sweet stuff!! Well, I digress.

Last Tuesday we gathered at Diplo getting our freak* on (*freak = spray). Yogi Beer led us in with the shiny loud horn - what lungs! A few of us went in the out so had to come back out the out to go in the in. Then we did the hokey kokey and we didn't turn around and we were fine. Lovely not-so-oft trod diplo trail awaited us. Short and hilly on white, long and flat on yellow we were told- all part of the ploy it would seem! Long and hilly on white and yellow same-same! There was a particularly vertical hill on white and yellow that rewarded us with some rarely seen Diplo views and well, it was all downhill from there...

It got dark, it got muddy, it got rivery; it got darker, it got muddier, it got riveryer...trudge squelch trudge moan squelch squelch trudge. Finally out! Food before shout up? What what? People still in? Oh gosh! Everyone out? Woohoo! There was Sabrina and Hash hound's sister to welcome as first time guests.

There were three impressive run totals: Cheryl at 650, Xx at 650 and Glamour at 1250! Fantastic! Hilariously, Psycho asked Glamour- our very own founding member- who brought her to her first hash! A trick question apparently!

It was also Cheryl's last run and we all felt sorry to see Cheryl go. We joined in a chorus of the Goodbye song for her. After 25 years in Brunei and 16 years Hashing on the Ladies Hash, she is a Hash Queen and she will be missed. Over the years she's done put in so much work for the Hash in various committee roles and all that hard work is greatly appreciated. We wish her all the very best and hope all goes well with the move to Portugal.

Next week's run is at Mata-Mata. We've not been there for a while and we're also having the shout up there for the first time in a while. From Jalan Gadong coming from Gadong turn right at the Telanai turn, where they're building the overpass. From there they'll be a sign, it's the first proper left turn, or go up to the funny roundabout and go left. From Tutong Link it's left at the second big roundabout (coming from i-lotus direction) and then the second funny roundabout it's a right- there will be a sign. Traffic is slow on Jalan Gadong- Telanai at the moment, at that time of day. (BUT then its the school holidays for government school...ed)

The theme is Nikolaus and there'll be lots of homage to the German traditions (mainly chocolate themed :) If you spot a piece of paper with a picture of Saint Nick in the jungle then bring it out to claim a prize!

RUN NO. 2518 MENTERI WATERFALLS 22NOV2016

RUN NO. 2518
DATE: 22 NOVEMBER
SITE: MENTERI WATERFALLS
HARES: Alice in Wonderland/JOTB/Hornbill
FRONT HORN: Hash Hound   BACK HORN: Tracy
A lovely turn out for hash last Tuesday at one of the favourite hash sites!

Started up the bit*h of a hill that just kept going up and soon it became quite apparent that a number of (cheating!) ladies took the short cut instead of going up another hill. I was too far back to know who found the checks, probably peachi keen whose slender legs can glide ahead like a gazelle.

The run was laid through really well with a good road run at the end. No one was led astray and everyone got out safely in good time.

On on commenced at Jenny on the block's. 'Holy f**k, that's a beautiful home!' Especially with all the handmade furniture! The few who were given a house tour were mesmerised with the wide stairs. We're a weird bunch!
Sorry to have digressed!

First shout out by our wonderful new JMs who brought back birthday cupcakes (Trailblazer and Hot lips)! Yum! Thank you to the hares JOTB, AIW, and hornbill. No FTG, no celebrations. We we very well entertained by a joke by Yogi Beer and hash shit to our veteran peachi keen (forgot to sign in) and psycho (for accusing the hares for not doing their jobs).

Announcements - sunday (27th nov) crafts fayre at serasa clubhouse and book binding workshop at mabohai.
Thank you to hares for amazing food! What a treat we had with the wrap station.

RUN NO. 2517 TJ BUNUT KANAN 15 NOV 16 - FOUNDERS DAY

RUN NO. 2517
DATE: 15 NOV 2016
SITE: TJ BUNUT KANAN

JMs

JMs and GMs in action

Mrs Pingu & Wonder Woman

Licker & Lickety Quick

Dizzy and Pee Wee

The highlight of  hashing in the  H3 Hashing calendar which is eagerly anticipated by all members and this year it is extra special for we are celebrating 2 special occasions, i.e. Founder’s Day and 50th years of  hashing in Brunei.

Some hardworking members must have come early to OnOn site to decorate and to prepare audio / visual equipment, for when we arrived, all those things were in place.

As we signed in we were given our Founders Day pack consisting of a bag and a t-shirt. Bag would be handy for putting all our hash gears when coming to hash every Tuesday!

Just before the run, JM Peewee announced that it will be a short, lollipop run with no checks. We were advised to follow paper and not go on up to top of hill as some of us did at last run here in Sleazy Garden! Front horn  Ryvita  was not present at start of run  and back horn was Janine. As usual, at 5.15 pm, the front runners sprinted out of gate. Don't know if Janine ever had the opportunity to sound the horn in the jungle  but she  did toot it accidentally whilst still on the road!

This time all hashers did as instructed; up and down tarred road; turned left onto dirt road , a little climb and then right onto dirt road gone muddy before slipping into jungly bit; crossed 2 streams or was it the same stream crossed at different point; then onto dirt road again then left down hill on way out. Nothing spectacular but we did get our shoes wet and muddy. Some front runners decided to do another round by going in the Out trail.

Back at OnOn site some members were already in the pool, imbibing on their favourites colours thanks to 2 free tokens. At some point in time, the hens drifted off to change into  their 60s costume and when they emerged.. Oh My... I have never seen so many hippies in one place and costumes in myraid of  colours and glitters; some were transformed and needed second and third look to ascertained  as to who they were!! It was like going back in time!

The shout out proceeding got under way with the usual thanking of hares and down-down. 2 returning hens [Gina-Senior avid hasher] and Dizzy (both had served as JMs of H3 before) coming here for the 50th anniversary celebration were also down-downed and welcomed. Jms announced there will be a part 2 to the proceeding after makan which was delicious curry.

Then it was Shout Up part 2 starting with giving out of special  “prizes” to hares where an event / incidents occurred in their runs; the shiggiest, wettest, longest, shortest, most hashits, haring the most runs and so on. Then it was time to thank  2016 Hash Committee and introducing 2017 Hash Committee and no doubt the one that garnered the most interest was: who are the new JMs and  GM?!. … When JM Smurf  asked “ Will the new JMs please stand up” …. up jumped Psycho and Ripper! And the  new GM, Hash Hound  swaggered her way up to join the gathered  2017 Hash Committee!

We were entertained by 4 moustachiod ladies dancing and singing tributes to 2 dispensers of drinks in the hash --- Mrs. Barman (H3) and Mr. Moonshine (H4)

The merry making continued with more music and dancing: the hardcores danced on way past their bedtime!!

This is not the end to the merry- making though for on  Saturday, November 19, we will be at Serasa Yacht Club where hashers from other Brunei Hash Chapters and guests will join us to help  celebrate 50th Anniversary.  Can’t wait to get our feet over there!

Next  run is at Salambigar Waterfall on Mentiri Highway. OnOn will be at JennyOnTheBlock's

P/S Please bring your chair and park sensibly; follow direction (by JOTB).

RUN NO. 2516 DIPLO 8 NOV 2016

RUN NO. 2516
DATE: 8 NOV 2016
SITE: DIPLO - BARKATS RUN
HARES: ALISON/SMURF/CHERYL/BLACK BEAUTY

So, the penultimate run of the hashing year. And one that definitely didn't disappoint.

We gathered at Diplo, as we often do, in anticipation of the BarKats run. Not a long run we were told, if it's too short, do it twice. We headed down the road and into the jungle just near the Malaysian High Com, not a spot we usually go in so good for a change. Down we went, not long before first check, which was a little bit fiendish, as we had been warned it may be.

As is usually the case with Diplo runs, we had plenty of water crossings, and a few canny hills in there to stretch our legs. Second check also proved to be rather fiendish, Mrs Pingu and myself checked right up the opposite ridge for the paper to be found back across the water. It took us a while to actually get back on paper, but we managed.

Eventually we could hear the laughter and conviviality synonymous with H3, our BarKats had set up a bar in the jungle! So we all stopped for a little rest and a drink and a chat before heading back out to the tent, a mere 5 minutes away. The shout up followed and it was a pretty lively one. The hares were downdowned, sadly the last run Cheryl and Smurf will lay for H3.

But instead of it being a sad occasion, we decided to party! We welcomed three FTGs and one new member - Sharon. The hares provided great food for us, and we even had music to wile away the hours to! We Hens didn't disappoint, some of us dancing late into the night at what was a great warm-up for Founders' Day on Tuesday. Thank you BarKats! On on

RUN NO. 2515 MENTERI WATERFALLS 1 NOV 2016

RUN NO. 2515
DATE: 1 NOV 2016
SITE: MENTERI WATERFALLS (BRREAST CANCER AWARENESS)
HARES: TRAILBLAZER/YOGI BEER/WHERES WALLY/GOODNIGHT KIWI/LARA

When Alison asked me to write the words for the Breast Cancer Awareness run it suddenly dawned on me that this would be last time!
I just want to take the opportunity to thank the Ladies Hash members past and present for such a fun run! What a great time I have had with H3! I have many memories and mementos of my time with you including –great friends, tears, chat, gossip, cuts, bruises, stings, rashes, a fear of logs, great food, dressing up, and loads of fun! I will miss you all and hope I can still read the words on line to see what you are up to!
Back to last week’s run!
It was very lucky the rain kept off!  I didn’t actually go in for this run, but by all accounts, it was long, hard, slippy and ended in darkness. Could be the title of a porn film! Well done ladies for testing our elite athletes, including those from Rimba.
The on-on was held at Yogi Beer’s palatial mansion.
Smurf and I had hash t-shirts looking for good homes. Every t-shirt with its own story of blood sweat and tears spent in the jungles of Borneo! Ah! If only t-shirts could talk!
Back to the on-on …. The intrepid hares, Goodnight Kiwi, Where’s Wally, Trailblazer, Yogi Beer and virgin hare Lara were duly down-downed. Trailblazer gave a short spiel about breast cancer awareness, pointing out that all of us know someone who has suffered from this scourge. She added that in Brunei there is a high percentage of young victims. (So sad)
Before I forget, Pedigree Pup and Mrs. Pingu were the horns.
Peachy Keen was down-downed for 100 runs and her amazing achievement of running for 50kms in KK. Smurf said that her snotty nose had also run 50kms! No beer for her however!
Miss Rachael Tan was named Miss Gobby by the elegantly hatted and plastic sworded Smurf.
Goodnight Kiwi celebrated 650 runs. Congratulations!

RUN NO. 2514 SUBOK 309 25 OCT 2016

RUN NO. 2514
DATE: 25 OCT 2016 - HALLOWEN
SITE: SPG 309 SUBOK

PsYcHo'S DeAd 'n BrEaKfAsT RuN... an AwEsOmE NiGhT!!

Warned of wetting pants and heart attacks, we sturdy hens arrived undeterred in our droves. A welcoming grave yard and a tasty green halloween punch; with trembling hands we signed in and headed out... torches at the ready, peering at the ominous dark clouds above.  Steep, steep steps to the peaks of Brunei, a little flat to catch our weary breath, then deep, deep down into the darkness; no going back now for us fearful hens, as spooky witches crouching behind trees eagerly give us a fright.

As OnOn approaches, appearing from nowhere... all creatures of the night - witches 'n devils, ghosts 'n ghouls, dancing ballerinas and dead boys 'n girls: pumpkins 'n pirates, skeletons galore all drinking merrily together on this deadly turf... but no sign of our JM - where the hell is Smurf! Buried alive or burnt at the stake? Death by budweiser and dumped in a barrow? If we asked her double act Pee Wee, would we be any the wiser?

Lots of parades and loads of prizes for creative costumes and pumpkin carvings; Yogi Beer hearing the call to win them all was promptly put in the corner by the spider's wall.

Double, Double.. Toil and Trouble... Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble... in the cauldron boil and cook spicy curry "n pumpkin soup... in the poison'd entrails throw spider cookies and snacky bones. We brave hens having had our fill, retired before day light... looking forward to next year's more dreaded night!!!  Thanks to all who came to the run, especially to PsYcHo & Co. for the efforts put in to the evening, food, decorations etc.
