RUN NO. 2474 RIMBA 19JAN2016

RUN NO. 2474
DATE: 19 JAN 2016
SITE: RIMBA EXEC HOUSING
HARES: WW/FULL STEAM AHEAD/S TROUPER/SAMIAM/TIGER MOTH

Instructions from JM before setting off

The Hash run last Tuesday, was expertly laid by the elite athletes of Rimba Armada and Jalan Muara (Super Trooper, Full Steam Ahead, Sam I Am, Wonder Woman and Virgin Hare: Tiger Moth).

Like the ‘Elite’ athletes that they are, and in keeping with their style, the first check they laid was very tricky! Bloody Hell!! There was some confusion amongst the hens about what was happening in the jungle, until the clear, loud voice of Mean Machine was heard clearly announcing…. "Checking from here!". Good work Mean Machine! (Give her a beer for displaying correct hashing protocol). Then the trail was found and ‘On, on, on paper’ was heard up ahead.

The trail was fairly flat and brought the hens out of the jungle at the side of Rimba Ar-mada and back to the tent. What was that foul (fowl) smell ??? Apparently Smurf strategically attempted to clear the smell from the drain. Wow! Now that is going above and beyond the duties of a JM. (Give her a beer as well!) The shout up began by the usual call of "Gather round, gather round" from Twinkle Toes. The five hares gladly accepted their ‘down, down’ for successfully laying the run and Yogi Beer randomly sang ‘Like a virgin’ for our virgin hasher. Nice work! The talent amongst our hens is truly amazing!
Guest and new member all ready to start off

Front horn was the agile Mrs Pingu and she was on time! Back horn was Hornbill, who wasn’t on time!! The Hen House Harriers welcomed two new members: Lykker and Steph. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. We hope you behave yourselves! It was then announced that our beautiful, Lifetime Member Alison has completed 1150 runs. Bloody amazing. Well done and congratulations! It was also announced to read the words carefully next week about the rules of hashing. Otherwise there may have to be Professional Development administered in the form of scenarios and role-plays.
Pang sisters

Shit no! All Hens were asked to please bring a stubby cooler/coolie each week to ‘cover it up!’ and put your rubbish in the rubbish receptacle (now that’s a big bloody word for a Tuesday night)! Just before the beautiful Nosh was served, Peachi Keen and Mean Machine were given Hashit. Peachi Keen came prepared and stripped down to a very sexy 1960s costume, a swim cap and some snorkeling goggles. Very funny! Was it just me, or do you think that she always expects to get hashit? Why??? Anyway, next weeks run is an Australia Day run at Patsy’s. The run has a combination of Bruneian terrains. Prepare to go ‘down under’ and get wet and muddy. Wear something Australian and PLEASE BRING A CHAIR! On On x

RUN NO. 2473 DIPLO 12 JAN 2016

RUN NO. 2473
DATE: 12JAN2016
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: PEACHI KEEN/PPUP/PATSY/LEDASTRAY/RACHAEL

An enjoyable run with a bit of a difference at Diplo. Thanks to Led Astray, Patsy, Pedigree Pup, Peachi Keen, and Rachael for a well laid run. It was a nice 4.4km with everything we want for a jungle run; bush, water, hills and trails.  (Excuse the plagiarism but I’ve been up all night trying to book international flights on sale – not telling you which one or I’ll never succeed!!)
 Hares relaxing.....

To be honest I’m still getting over my last international flight so was lagging at the back of the run so can’t tell you much apart from the fact a very red faced Recruiter finally overtook me having been lost at a check!! It was generally agreed that it was a good work out for us all after our holiday indulgences. A good length but not too long although Ola, Ariadna’s second time guest commented that it was ‘very moist’.
Waiting to go...
Scrambling...

It was generally agreed that the front and back horns, Mean Machine and Alice In Wonderland respectively, both did a good job. From what I understood Peachi Keen is owed a lot of hashit. No one got it this week because she still hasn’t returned the bucket!! There were quite a few first time guests this time although a few escaped before the Shout Up. Mean Machine introduced a Canadian living in Australia and with all this information to process, I apologise for missing the name! Tracey from the North of the UK (a different more honest species to southerners) was sponsored by Mrs Pingu. Stephanie from Scotland (currently still part of the UK, a touchy subject I think we should avoid) was introduced by Where's Wally.

There were a lot of announcements!!(Remind me not to volunteer to write up the words at the beginning of the year!)

* The Kids Hash has had to introduce a Wait List since hashing has been reduced to a mere shuffle, due to 300 plus members. However guests who have already attended once will not be turned away and still have the opportunity to join
* Gin Trap offered to do a group order for MudClaws (Not what they sound like but a pair of shoes!! I have some and they’re almost essential equipment for H4, if you like to stay vertical!)
* New Zealand Run on 9 February

Finally we had amazing Malay cuisine thanks to the hares!

Next week’s run is at Rimba and laid by Sam I Am, Full Steam Ahead, Wonder Woman, Super Trouper and Tiger Moth.  A scenic route, we thought, with no swamps we hope!! It’s a fairly level
route with a well laid path for 3-4 kilometers we think (none of our gadgets were working!!). On On!!

NEXT RUN: RIMBA HOUSING - Bring them sprays!!! Mossie country...

RUN NO. 2472 MENTERI WATERFALLS 5 JAN 2016

RUN NO. 2472
DATE:5 JAN 2016
SITE: MENTERI WATERFALLS
HARES: WONDERWOMAN/THE RECRUITER

Another lovely run in one of our favorites, gorgeous Sungai Akar/Salambigar/Mentiri jungle. Thanks to The Recruiter and Wonder Woman who laid two weeks in row, for inviting us into the goodness of what this jungle has to offer us.

Hashers were given 2 options with both approximately 3km plus an additional 2.5km road run or bus tour  back to check-in for white paper. First check was found by Ryvita, second check...umm as far as I am right (which is obviously rare cases), I think there was only 1 check until the part where papers split into white or yellow trails. On the white trail, no dramatic or torturing hills thus not much swearing and moaning to be heard so far until Peachi Keen flew into the air at the sloping down hill towards the creek and landed safely in Mean Machine's arm.

Yellow paper was a scenic route through jungle, a massive concrete structure in the middle of nowhere and the back fencing of RTB. Mostly flat and downhill, it was a nice little run through with added bonus of a wave hello from the security guard of RTB who happened to be wandering around the area. Back to the road with the choice of sticking by the side of the main road or the grassy area which turned out to be a muddy option! (irony of it being a pretty dry run through the actual jungle!) Some confusion for some yellow runners when white runners appeared behind them on the road. Did we miss a turn somewhere. How can front horn/front of the pack be passing the end of the pack?!
Huge thanks to Rush Hour as Front Horn and Jenny On The Block as Back Horn.

We had quite a few first time guests, but only one of them; a very well trained guest from Sweden (Good job Gin Trap), stayed for On On. No Hashit despite Peachi Keen being so well prepared in swim togs for getting one for three possible convictions (1. keeping rubbish bins for more than a month, 2. keeping Hashit bucket and chickens for more than a month, 3. came to hash with no plate for potluck dinner) [peachi keen, you're just asking for it!! But surely we won't Hashit a hare on her run]. Announcements by bashful Smurf who placed herself behind a bushy plant to avoid being paparazzied was about the Scott's night at Yacht Club.

Next weeks run is at or another beloved site Diplo. Hares are Gorgeous Ultimate Five; Led Astray, Patsy, Pedigree Pup, Peachi Keen, and virgin hare Rachael. Follow the pink paper that will invite you to nice 4.4km with everything we want for a jungle run; bush, water, hills and trails. So prepare to cover your skin unless you don't mind getting scratches and tatty frocks and footwear as you'll get soaked. There'll be an option for easy goers, U-turn at the first check with a pile of 'Yellow Paper' will give you a nice and short 3km run.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year H3 Ladies.  Welcome back to Brunei and to Hash.  We hope you have all had a wonderful time with your families and loved ones and are feeling refreshed and ready to take on 2016 with vigour and verve! We are fast coming to the end of the holiday and festive season and our pack has been running at holiday-level (and some of us at holiday-speed after partaking rather well over this festive period!).

Another lovely run laid by our Hares Wonder Woman and Gin Trap in the gorgeous Sungai Akar/Salambigar/Mentiri jungle.  This little spot is fast becoming a favourite amongst the H3 Ladies, with its undulating hills, vibrant jungle trails, small water-falls and streams to be found near and far!
First check was found by Rush Hour and Itchy Feet was fast on locating the second check keeping the pack moving nicely along.  Hash Hound did a great job as Front Horn while Jenny-on-the-Block swept along nicely behind as our Back Horn.   It was a quiet run with 20 odd hashers and no first time guests, maybe the lull before the storm as our Hash 3 Ladies arrive back and begin to carve out our trails for the coming 2016 year.

Our thanks to Gin Trap for hosting the on-on at hers and both the hares for the hearty sustenance that replenished us during the on-on.  Cheers Ladies!

RUN NO. 2470
DATE: 22 DEC 2015 (XMAS RUN)
SITE: RIMBA
FRONT HORN: ICY BITCH   BACK HORN: LED ASTRAY
HARES: YOGI BEER/TRAILBLAZER

It was a select little group who met at Yogi Beer's for the Christmas Run. Select, but still very game!

Icy Bitch agreed to be front horn after some persuasion, and if Gin Trap hadn't left it til Monday lunchtime to write this report, she would remember who back horn had been - sorry!!!
"Dashing Hares"

We bemused a few residents at Rimba by trotting along quite happily past houses on our way into the jungle. The hares had been kind to us, nothing too long or too strenuous, no real ups or downs, nothing too challenging.  Downward Dog found first check, and Rush Hour found the second. Back we ambled past the houses again to a very warm welcome waiting for us at Yogi Beer's.
Pang sisters!

Pensive Peahen..

Delicious mulled wine to accompany a very short shout up by our stand-in JM (thank you Wonder Woman). No FTGs, no new members, no hashit..... but Yogi Beer's very funny Santa joke (which I have retold several times now, thanks). We did get into the festive spirit with a fab Christmas photo frame, very yummy soups, turkey, bread, gorgeous squidgy cakes, stolen etc, topped with Secret Santa presents and a very, very amusing After 8 game.

Great time had by all, many thanks hares.

NEXT RUN:  Menteri/Salambigar waterfalls with the on-on at Gin Traps.

Beautiful run at Salambigar/Mentiri Falls.

Lovely pools

Hares with Glamour after laying the run.
Nice tall trees on the trail

A perfect 3km jaunt, with a steep climb to start. Not one but two sneaky back checks, both found by Ryvita and Recruiter.

A lovely descent to the pool to close the run and the most stunning of Brunei sunsets welcomed us to the on-on at the hospitable Hornbill and tribe.

Lovely to meet the family and especially the grand-daughter who felt most at home in Hornbill's chair.

Thanks to Itchy Feet for bringing several guests to boost the pack of just 20. Yogi Beer, that's me, was front horn and pedigree pup keep the pack safe at the back.

First time guests

Our dear JM Peewee ran the shout up impeccably with several guests attending and a special award for Trailbazer who has achieved the staggering number of 650 runs! A formidable achievement!

Yummy home made pies, salad and wedges

RUN NO. 2468
DATE 8 DEC 2015
SITE: SUBOK 309
HARES: PEEWEE/PEAHEN/ICY BITCH

It’s that time of year when a lot of hash members are away  so numbers are down but we still have a good turn out – about 24-25.
Happy faces before the run.

A few minutes before 5.15 pm the JM, who also happened to be one of the hares informed us that there are 2 runs--- 1 long and 1 short and check papers  in yellow. There was a little confusion about who is having the front horn but quickly sorted when Downward Dog was given it. JOTB has the back horn.

Then at a toot of the horn, down we run/ walk out of the on- site and turned right on the road, then left and up the road before we entered a hilly fruit orchard and a check. Poor Itchy Feet’s mum had slipped somewhere along the trail and had sustained some scratches on her leg but nothing serious. I believed they carried on and did the short run.

Itchy Feet with her mum

We met Aunty Glamour on the trail

The first check took a bit of looking but was eventually found by JOTB near the top of a hill. Down the hill we went still in the fruit orchard until we came to a little hut. From then on it was an uphill affair. At the top, (or what we thought was the top) the trail led us downhill only to be faced with another steep hill ahead. Final push up that hill and we hit the ridge trail which was a little overgrown.

Ladies even had time to clown around.

Peek-a-boo, can you see me?
Second check was found somewhere on the ridge and was nicely laid through. Easy trail run until we reached the pondok where we got off the ridge for a steep walk down. The trail back to on site led us through a bulldozed area and down the road through housing.

On returning to onsite we were served mulled wine to help us revive. It turned out that the majority did the long run and about 4 people did the short run.

Shout up was duly called by our solo JM and hares thanked and down-down. We were also entertained by little Gigi dancing to our hash songs! Threatened with hashit too for talking through shout up!

FTG Martine ( Patsy’s guest) from Australia was called up for a down- down.  JM Peewee announced that this is her 300th run and was down-down again. We were well behaved lot today so no hashit given.
Introducing our two "Hashflash" - What Butt & Led Astray

Hash food was roti with vegetable curry sauce and nice chocolatety biscuits and German Christmas treats from Peahen including stollen. Another enjoyable evening of hashing was had by all I am sure.

Waiting for the others to arrive.

Hash number 2 of our new hashing year. What could it possibly bring? We were assured that we didn’t really need any details, other than that it was very doable, all things considered. Poor Downward Dog was stuck in traffic, in possession of the front horn, luckily Yogi Beer stepped in with a whistle and offered to do the job, so at 5.15 off we toddled to little toot on the whistle!

Down the road we went, and at the housing we followed paper in to the left, along the fence and into the jungle. In spite of all the rain in the last couple of weeks, it wasn't toO slippery. First check was duly found and paper laid through.

More similar trails followed and I could see where we were going, and it was indeed a most doable and enjoyable run! 30 minutes saw us come back to the road for a short trot back to the tent. Perfect for this time of year as it’s getting dark by 6, and no one wants to be getting lost/going back in to find lost persons etc.
Hares Itchy Fit/Ryvita

A canny little shout up followed. Hares were downed, horns were thanked - DD did make it and had caught up by first check, no FTGs but we did say ‘hi’ to Itchy Feet’s mum who was on her second H3 visit, Rush Hour received her 50 runs potty - well done Rush Hour! Many announcements were made, no hashit - even if we did find out that one of our GMs is a SCB, all followed be delicious chilli and baked potatoes! Thanks hares for the run and the food. We’ll be getting a bit festive this week now we’re in December, hope it’s as enjoyable as last week. On on!
