RUN NO. 2444 23 JUN 2015

RUN NO. 2444
DATE: 23 JUN 2015
SITE: MENTERI WATERFALLS (GAWAI)
HARES: HORNBILL/GOODNIGHT KIWI/TRAILBLAZER/KEM

Cars rushed by at frightening speed as the hens gathered by the entrance to the waterfalls.  We were reminded to be mindful of those fasting and hide the drinks.  There was a choice of runs – short one on pink and a longer one on white.  Peachie Keen started us off.  Up the hill we huffed and puffed (with no houses made of wood to blow down, only trees – Oh just a minute we are hens’ not little pigs)  Both pink and white paper took us up the long hill, then across the bulldozed road and continued up the hill again and down.  There is a scientific rule in life – What goes up must come down! We practiced that rule a number of times before the run was over.

Hornbills in the jungle
Pretty trails

I think Hash Hound found a check but as she escaped after the run I didn’t get chance to ask her.  The paper split and the short run went down the hill and I presume out by the stream.  The longer run was on a familiar path that enabled those so inclined to run, or for those who like to plod/walk and talk we could!!!  Thanks to the hares for being thoughtful and giving us a lovely run suitable to all our needs and preferences.

Then the adventure started.  It was like the amazing race ladies style trying to find the on on!  But I must say the signs were very helpful.  Once we gathered at hornbills abode we were welcomed with a shot of rice wine.   Might have to change our name to “ladies shot hash” with all these lovely surprise drinks we keep being given.  There were amazing smells coming from the kitchen too.
Hares

The JM’s started by welcoming a first time guest brought by Satu as Trailblazer (hare) was blazing through traffic.  Then they thanked the hairy hares for a great run.  We were celebrating Gawai.  Lots of photos were taken of Hornbill and her “house boy” (as TT named him for the night) dressed up in tribal outfits.  I love the fact that I get to celebrate lots of different things at hash and learn about other cultures and traditions.

It was announced that there is a 7 in 7 organized  (7 hashes in 7 days) in September so sign up and attend those run or if you want - just the on on’s.  Sounds like the male hashers just want an excuse to drink every day for the week!

Next week’s run is a little bit of everything.  Not too hilly. Not too flat. Not too long.  Not too short.  The run starts on Jalan Ping Ping, First right turn, just after the roundabout, at the end of the highway leading to Serasa.  Two virgin hares plus some more experienced hashers and will be laying the trail.  So come along bring some friends.

Keep calm and just hash

RUN NO. 2443 LOWER DIPLO 16 JUN15

RUN NO. 2443
DATE: 16 JUN 2015
SITE: LOWER DIPLO
HARES: RYVITA/PEACHY KEAN/ITCHY FEET/MEAN MACHINE

Thanks hares.  A hash with a difference.

We all assembled at Lower Diplo.  The only information we had was that there were no hills.  (I wonder if the hares use the same dictionary as me).

We set off through a section of beautiful jungle following paper.  Tongs tested the bridge for strength but no harm done.

In what seemed no time at all we exited the jungle.  There was a surreptitious checking of Sports Tracker which showed we had covered one and a half kilometres. No cause for alarm though as Peachy Keen in one hand held a type written message and with the other hand handed us a small, reviving tonic to assist our travels.

So it was back to the sign in to sign out and a quick car trek to the Upper Diplo where we signed in again. Paper mysteriously changed colour at this point as we headed into the jungle again.  Another check with a difference where we were offered the choice of a shot, answering a riddle or a five push ups if we were to continue on. We decided on the riddle and Goodnight Kiwi managed to come up with the right answer.   One more jaunt through the jungle and were given the same three choices.  We decided on the riddle again and Hornbill managed to come up with answer quite quickly!  So this week’s s run not only exercised our legs but our brains too! A great idea hares, perhaps we could amend the hash rules to make this mandatory for every run.

At the Shout Up, Twinkletoes enquired whether we were still capable of walking in a straight line.  Great applause followed from some tiddly hashers.  Hares, Peachi.Keen, Ryvita, Mean Machine and Itchy Feet had a down down.    Front horn was Ally with Sam I Am as back horn.  First time guest, Chantelle from Oz, was given the traditional Dizzy welcome.  (Chantelle shows great hash potential as she downed her water in one swallow).  June birthday babes, Velma and Dizzy celebrated their birthdays.

A few announcements i.e. dishes left behind last week, stack plastic chairs as you leave, Kids Hash at Rapier Range this Sunday and lastly but not least, Possum sent greetings from Noosa Hash.  Subs are due for part two of the year.  A joke was provided courtesy of Mrs Pingu's dad.  It is a good job she has a holiday soon as she is now out of jokes.  Hash-it was given to Licker for failing to school her first time guest appropriately.

Next weeks run is at Salambigar Falls with the OnOn at No 2 Simpang 115-20-13 Jalan Madang.

RUN NO. 2442 DIPLO 9JUN2015

RUN NO. 2442
DATE: 9 JUN 2015
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: ALISON/BLACK BEAUTY

Getting up from pre-run wee-winks, received an S.O.S call from Mean Machine who got stuck at the store car park when her car battery decided not to wake up. Peachi Keen Road Service successfully got the engine started, despite both chicks being a little shaky with cables in their hands. So the ice and esky for Hashers were safely delivered in tonight's run Upper Diplo.

Having shower and a bit of thunder above the Hashers, trails was stunning, nice and painless 3.5km, and full of minus ion which definitely helped Hashers keep going, on on on!!

Off our lovely Diplo hills, Hashers were welcomed by Alison's special tasty punch, followed by ummmmm...nom, nom shepherds oie and freshly boiled sweet corn filled our tum. Oh never forget the treats of brownies. Merry night underneath the tropic thunder and shower, with 2 first time guests, no sinners to honour, and Madam Sin's well spiced joke. Probably a bit more shots will push Tiff on the stage to show off her beautiful singing voice for our entertainment.

The next run will be our old favorite Lower Diplo. Ladies, get to ready to ball!!! On On

RUN NO. 2441 LUCKY GARDENS 2JUN15

RUN NO. 2441
DATE: 2 JUN 2015
SITE: LUCKY GARDENS (MID YEAR RUN) A-B
HARES: TWINKLE TOES/SQUEAK/WONDERWOMAN & PATSY
BACK HORN: DOC

It was medium length run with two big hills. 3.8Ks. Pick up opposite RTB.

A number of Hens ran into the jungle, zoomed around for a while, found the road, got picked up by a bus and came back. Apart from that nothing much happened. There was a nice little sausage dog from next door who came and looked at us when we were sitting in the tent.

But! You may well say, what about the leaves, the rain; the little bridge with new handles; the big hill at the end?

Oh, all right then: The run was very pleasant, along well laid trails, sometimes with leaves and sometimes without. The second check was fiendish and people skittered about all over the place. Everyone came back to the check and scratched their heads in perplexity. Eventually, due no doubt to perseverance and sheer grit, the On was found, ahead; the skitterers just hadn't gone far enough to start with. It rained heavily at one point. Peachy Kean re-laid the paper where it had been washed away so no one got lost. Hurray!

Alas! The tinkle tinkle of little bells announced Possum's last run. At last, after long years of captivity, she has been released back into the wild where, once again, she may swoop from branch to branch or skip freely in the billabongs of her native habitat, to munch upon the tender leaves of the Eucalypt and to sip the amber nectar beside the honey bee and the Swagman of her native land. Cheerio Possum, and thanks for all the gifts and prizes, the lucky draw, the knock out punch and the vegemite sandwiches. My Noosa stubby holder will be a treasured hare-loom.

After all the hilarity and merrymaking, the committee put on some great chicken and veggie curry which was enjoyed by all. Thank you Peeps!

This week's run is a little over 3.K and will contain more FIENDISH CHECKs! (Oh No!). It is on white paper. Don't get mislead by any of the old stuff.

RUN NO. 2440 SUBOK 309 26 may 2015

Run No. 2440
Date:26 May 2015
Site: Subok 309 PILOTS WIVES CLUB
Hares: pee wee n friends
As predictable I am wide awake at 5 am local time. So here goes n hope it gets to you in good time.

SUBOK 309 PILOTS WIVES CLUB RUN.

We had been asked to be a few minutes early n so most were already milling around when I arrived with usual basket in hand n rushing to get changed.

The hares with their team were glamorous in their 2015 vogue designer uniform n some even managed heels. Bunny Girl rallied the "crew" and "passengers" were briefed with safety procedures! Havent seen a songkok so well adorned - collective talents galore entertained the hens before the horn sounded n off we went towards the usual n unavoidable ridge.

Luckily after the first up up up up n once on the ridge the gentle down home was pleasant n threat of rain did not materialised. With the down by the waterfall n gardens we were soon home for more entertainment by the "crew" including a quiz on airport codes. PVG and SGN got a few foxed although a couple managed full marks. Gifts were awarded to the winners including those who found "aeroplanes" during the run.
Two new members were welcomed n hashit given to"jenni OTB".

Cocktails with assorted flavored peanuts had earlier greeted hens as they came back to the tent. A meal served "on board" style went down a treat n the evening continued as usual under the stars with some finishing quite late into the night. Thank you ladies for a fun Tuesday evening.

I promised to send a bit of a report on the Thirsty hash as I landed in Liverpool. It was fortunate the once a month last Thursday hash was near Sticky Rice's digs so of we went looking for the named start point "The Peerless Brewery". An interesting start n on on venue n expectations were high. Mental note "Is this what Smurf gets up to when she is hashing at home". Introduced ourselves to a few hashing looking people n were soon sitting around having a half? This is new - we haven't even started walking let alone run? At about 7 pm done watch looking began n remarks of finishing up n starting the hash was heard. We soon set off and gathered by the entrance for a photo n then it was off on the flour trail. The run was through streets n very different to hashing as we know it. Great views of the city across the Mersey n a few regroups n we were soon home at the brewery having covered 4miles. Miles? Oh yes forgot they are not quite into the metric business. Being May it was great to be in the light n not requiring torches. Circle was at the street corner with all 12 of us doing the usual down downs with refreshments brought in a bag! Then to the brewery n snacks produced by the hare. Great company with few members who obviously have been on the international scene judging by their t shirts. As it was the first day in the UK glad Julian and I managed to stay awake and headed home by 10 by taxi and the train. A quick good night to Sticky Rice and a note to meet the next day. An interesting experience!

Enough of ranting now. See you all in ten days. On on

RUN NO. 2439 DST 19MAY15

RUN NO. 2439
DATE: 19MAY2015
SITE: DST
HARES: WILMA/SAM I AM/ELOISE/LICKER

We all gathered at DST ready for nice little run, only to be informed that it was a 6.38km run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just what I needed after almost 3 hours in the jungle the day before, recceing over tree falls in dense bamboo.

Anyway, off went to horn and we set off down the way we came in and then off to the right. Down the gas line we went  On and on and on and on. Through a nasty swamp, and then on and on and on. Straight down the gasline. There had been a check off to the left and the paper wasn’t very well laid through, it was still going two ways, luckily our combined hash experience got us through this potential disaster.

Basically we carried on, then did a u-turn and came back up a path that was sandy, then gravelly and finally concrete. And that’s pretty much it! The shout was very well conducted, as usual, by our trusty JMs. Out came the hats, and three hashers got new names, Wilma became ‘Super Trouper’, Kim became ‘Over This’ and Tiff became ‘Patsy’ - run darling, there’s booze at the finish line! Which I think is what most of us are thinking as the horn goes at 5.15. A very hearty dinner was provided - thank you hares.

This week we ask that you turn up at least 5 minutes before check-in, enjoy the journey - and Come Hash With Us…….

RUN NO. 2438
DATE: 12MAY15
SITE: DST (PYJAMA RUN)
HARES: PSYCHO/RIPPER/TONI/KARLA (Two virgin hares)

H3 Psycho-Gang Payjama Has Run was a beauty!

The usual Tuesday night crowd of keen, fit, and very attractive looking lady hasers of Brunei, eagerly gathered together to hear the usual H3 Pre-run report.

The night began with the Duchess of Cambridge assisting Smurf to maneuver her car around the Hash tent in order tor the after-run refreshments to be placed in the correct position, ready for consumption.

The two terrific JMs then proceeded to announce that the run would be approximately an hour long for the front-runners. Well, it was that and a little bit more! There were lots of "checking calls" heard in the jungle throughout the run.

The run had everything... hills, mud, sand, water and also beautiful, think jungle that only  Hashers in Brunei get to enjoy every week. Where else in the world would you rather be?

After H3 runners had returned from the jungle and individuals were adequately hydrated, the call was heard to ... "Gather, round... Gather round".

The 'Shout Up' consisted of numerous exciting announcements, down-downs, a joke and celebrations that only happen at H3. The highlights included Peachi Keen receiving her 50 run pewter trophy goblet, a well aimed Hashit Water Throwing Ceremony and also the exciting news about a '7 Hash runs in 7 days' event that will be happening in the near future.

(Never Wrong finally got out at 10.45pm after help from H4 boys, and friends. She was in good spirit and well. Around a dozen H3 ladies waited for her arrival after three sweeps by various groups. Somehow NW decided to do a bit of extra training for her Mt K assault this weekend and ended up some ridge away from H3 paper - Ed)

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE END ……

SO HASHHOUND WAS DRIVING A FEW PEOPLE BACK AND FORTH AND I CHOSE TO GO BACK WITH THE ESKIES TO PUT THEM IN SMURF’S CAR AND WHILE I WAS AT IT, I MAY AS WELL GET THE SIGNS, THE SIGN IN BOARD AND THE CLEAN PLATES IN MY CAR TO SAVE ME THE HASSLE LATER ON.

I DID TRY TO DRIVE MY CAR BACK TO THE ON ON SITE. OH IT WAS A SHITTY EXPERIENCE. I ALMOST GOT STUCK IN THE SANDY SLOPEY BITS. 3 TIMES. MANAGED TO GET OUT AND TRIED THE HIGHER UP WAY. TURNED OUT THERE WAS A DEEP DIP DITCH THING. BLOODY 4X4 OBSTACLE COURSE. WENT BACK WITH HASHHOUND WHO TOOK ANTONIA, KARLA AND RIPPER BACK, SO ANTONIA AND RIPPER CAN BRING THEIR CARS IN.

LO AND BEHOLD. HASHHOUND AND ANTONIA RETURNED. BUT WHERE WAS RIPPER???

(INSERT SOUND EFFECT: TUM TUM TUMMMMMMMMM)

WE PACKED UP THE REMAINDER OF THE HASH : SMURF AND TRAILBLAZER AND HEADED BACK OUT.
TO DISCOVER RIPPER’S CAR WAS STUCK IN THE SANDY SLOPEY BIT

AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS OF PUSHING, DIGGING AND PUSHING, THE CAR IS DEAD STUCK

PSYCHO TO THE RESCUE. CALLED MY BOYS TO TOW THE CAR AND AFTER THAT IT WAS A WAITING GAME.

SMURF, TRAILBLAZER, RIPPER & I INAUGURATED ANTONIA INTO THE HARDCORES.

WE MAY AS WELL HAVE A FEW ADS WHILE WE WAIT FOR HEROES TO THE RESCUE
WITH CHAIRS OUT AND ADS IN OUR HANDS WE CONTINUED THE MERRIMENT AT THE BEACH.

UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS TOO DARK TO TAKE PHOTOS AND WE WERE HAVING TOO MUCH FUN WATCHING THE BOYS GETTING RIPPER’S CAR OUT.

REWARDED THEM WITH ADS.

WE ENDED THE NIGHT WITH "EVERYBODY GOT THEIR THINGS? LETS DRIVE OUT TOGETHER".

LOTS OF LAUGHTER AND OH THAT WAS FUN AND BEEP BEEP ON THE COASTAL HIGHWAY

HARES: H3 well assisted by DON FOULKES & LONE RANGER
DATE: 26 APR 2015
SITE: DIPLO
TEAMS ENTERED: 22 X 4 LEGS

Felt it appropriate that a few photos and words should be published for such a memorable and great run. All within the Upper Diplo site (for how long we will have access to seems to have the days numbered as contractors building chanceries and residences sprout closer and closer to the top) - A clever masterpiece with no transport involved and even points where you could cheer your team mates along on the other legs! Hash day started with hares and helpers arriving at site by 8 a.m.

Some photos for your enjoyment and again a huge thank you to Don and his family for the many hours recceeing and planning, and Lone Ranger giving up his  late afternoons and weekend to be with his hash family.  Also a big thank you for the support of other hashes in Brunei, especially BSBH3. Well done to the H3 team for running a great hash.
