RUN NO. 2435
DATE: 21 APR 15
SITE: RIMBA - ST GEORGES
HARES: MRS PINGU/BUNNY GIRL
FRONT HORN: RYVITA BACK HORN: GOOD NIGHT KIWI
The Ladies Hash were celebrating St. George’s Day and the site at Rimba was awash with the traditional colours of red and white.
At the appointed time, front horn Ryvita led us down the road and into the jungle. We were promised a long but flat run. I think that is what happened although I only went to first check. I don’t know who found the checks but Alison and I heard first check being called. The general consensus seemed to be that this was a good hash with chances to run and walk and talk!
Goodnight Kiwi was the back horn. (thanks for doing that for me Liz, I wasn’t feeling up to doing it.)
The delightful English Roses treated us to a cooling Pimms cocktail before the shout up started.
At the shout up the Hares were thanked and down-downed and two new members were announced, Karla and Kem, hope you are studying the rules!
April birthday girls, Madam Sin, Never Wrong and Erin were treated to cupcakes and a rousing rendition of ‘happy birthday’.
Announcements were made, Hash Relay, New Zealand Association dinner/dance.
The English Roses then treated us to a hash version of ‘Always look on the hash side of life.’ This was followed by some un-PC jokes via Carol’s dad. Very funny.
Hash Shit was dealt out swiftly (and coldly) to Lassie, Mean Machine and Ready Mix for mobile phone offences.
The JM’s reminded us to wear hash t-shirts to the shout up unless we are dressed up for a celebration run such as St. George’s.
The English Roses laid on a lip-smacking supper of fish and chips. cooked on site.
Thank you ladies for a good run and delicious food.
Next week’s run is at Lucky Gardens, a typical ‘up’, ‘down’ and ‘along a bit’ hash.
Here are some facts about the Patron Saint of England that might surprise you...
Saint George isn’t English
While St George’s exact birthdate remains unclear but is likely to be 270 AD, we know that he was born in Cappadocia, part of modern day Turkey.
He probably didn’t save a maiden from a dragon…
As if the dragon wasn't a giveaway, we’re sorry to say that the vision of Saint George in a red-crossed white tunic saving a fair maiden from a fire-breathing beast is all myth and legend.
This depiction of Saint George first came to public attention in 1483 in a book called The Golden Legend, according to the BBC. The text was a translation of a book by a French Bishop, Jacques de Voragine.
Little is known about the man. What we do know is that Saint George was born to an upper-class Christian family, before he become a Roman soldier. When his father died, he and his mother
returned to Palestine, and he decided to join the retinue of Diocletian, the Roman Emperor at the time.
He earned his reputation as a protector of Christianity after he refused orders from Diocletian to persecute followers of the religion at the start of the 4th century. He then resigned.
And despite being cruelly tortured at the order of the emperor, Saint George refused to denounce his faith. His actions saw him dragged through the streets of Diospolis (now Lydda) in Palestine and beheaded.
The martyrdom retold in Saint George's legend appears to be historically accurate, as he is believed to have died in 303 AD.
It wasn't until 494AD that he was canonised by Pope Gelasius.
A king decided to make him the Patron Saint of England
Edward III, who reigned from 1327 to 1377 was influenced by the stories of returning crusaders telling of Saint George's bravery.
So, when Edward founded the Order of the Garter, England’s order of knights, he made Saint George its patron.
By the 14th century Saint George was viewed as a special protector of the English.

Grand Hash National, Kapok Kanan, Tuesday 14th April (needs to be read very quickly with a commentators tone)
With all bets on, the hens were ready at the starting line. Then the sound of the horn at 5.15 – they were off! The front runners quickly separated from the rest of the group and were running up the hill. The first bend was taken well by all front runners and then as they approached the next hill, Mean Machine soon took the lead. Front horn was closely on her tail and caught up by the time both went off track and into the jungle. Weird noises slowed down both runners and the front runners soon regrouped at first check. Hash Hound was injured and took the short cut. Ryvita was first to find the back check which put her back in the lead. With Mrs Pingu laying the paper through, Ryvita sprinted off and Mean Machine kept a steady pace and soon caught up. 2nd check was a similar story, keeping the front runners together until they were on the stretch of trail at the top of the hill.
It was still anyone's race (not literally as we know that hash is not a race!)and the front runners were shoulder to shoulder and there was nothing in it. Taking in the time for the beautiful views over Serasa and the Yacht Club, all runners slowed down to a standstill….and then they were off again. This time taking a clear lead as she ran the final lap down the hill, not put off by the smelly cave and water obstacle, Mean Machine was sure to be in first place.
But what was this? A final obstacle of Never Wong and Velma, all runners fell to the temptations of the coconut refreshments on offer, with some of us having more than one. Coming in first place was a complete outsider, with the odds of 100-1, whoever placed that bet was definitely quids in. But we don't know who that was as all line judges were not at the signing in board!
All hens were safely signed in and the shout up started promptly..it was a big celebration – Never Wrongs 60th birthday as well as an amazing number of runs. No ‘hash it’ today …but there is always next week…if anyone remembers. A feast of scrummy home made food and a gooey chocolate birthday cake was on offer. The dry weather was good to us, allowing lots of gossip under the stars.

It was another small gathering of hashers who arrived at Subok for the hash run.
We were informed there was a medium and short run and not to worry because the first 15 minutes were the worst. The hares were certainly right about that.It was all uphill at first but I counted more than 15 minutes of climbing. New member Karla decided to turn back but was convinced by Psycho to carry on as it would get easier.
First check was found quickly and we were soon going downwards, through some new trails. We continued along road and then back through jungle till we were back along familiar trails we have not done for quite a while. It was good to be able to enjoy them again.
Thank you hares for reacquainting us with this jungle again. (I heard 3rd check was found while some seasoned hashers were reminiscing the sights from the old days and stumbled on the "on" paper! Should have made the checks harder but then again, we did not want to go back in for lost hens! having had the luxury of a shower. Ed)
We were met at the roadblock with the hares and a welcome punch, we rehydrated then strolled back to Duchess Of Cambridges for the on on.
The on on was another fairly quiet affair with many still enjoying holidays. There were 2 first time guests, Nicola and Lisa both Kiwis. Squeak reminded us that hash relay is only three weeks away. Seems to have come up quickly. Hope everyone has teams and their theme outfits ready.
Mrs Pinggu entertained us with some politically incorrect jokes from her father. We were left wondering about the ones she didn't read though.
Thank you hares for the delicious wraps, chicken and salads.

FRONT HORN: RYVITA BACK HORN: ALICE IN WONDERLAND
It had been a very hot day with threat of rain and even rumbling skies in
the distance, but the rain kept away.
With the two JMs on holiday, Hash Hound had volunteered to look after
proceedings but with the hazy days prior was too sick to be at hash. Ryvita
took up the challenge and started everyone off at 5.15 pm. A very small crowd
had gathered with the seasoned hashers leading the pack. After having been on
holiday for quite a few weeks, Pee Wee was keen to run keeping Ryvita company.
and with
“hash knowledge” Trailblazer guessed it had to be to the right and soon found
the on paper. For a while Sid, Duchess of C and Trailblazer became front
runners but front horn Ryvita and Pee Wee were soon on our heels.
We wove around and under some bushes and along the fence line that we used
to take from the other side of Spg 370. Quite a bit of maintenance and repairs
were lacking and at some point a tree had fallen on the fence breaking the
security! I wonder if the lights still work? We raced along familiar trails and
were soon at the open space and the daunting upward climb towards the cliff by
the edge of the jungle came into sight.
Paper led us into the jungle by the
bottom right but 2nd check was soon called. By then the rest of the pack had
arrived at the edge of the clearing and ladies were over the whole area
checking. Readymix called on back into the jungle and we were again on track
homeward bound. From then easy trail out back on the road to Tiff’s new crib.
An orderly crowd with one new guest (Antonia) introduced. No hashit was given
and we then tucked into self design fillings of chicken, tuna, salad, egg and
cheese with a good variety of bread rolls. There was also chocolate biscuits
for those with sweet tooth.
The small crowd of just over 20 soon dispersed and as usual only the
“hardcore” stayed till quite late or shall I say early?

I arrived at Diplo and saw we are to do Zumba before the hash and wondered if I would use up all my energy early. We were led through a fifteen minute workout but my coordination in some of the moves left a lot to be desired. I did enjoy looking at the instructors though. The hashers who arrived late missed a good warm up.
We then headed into the Diplo trails, some bravely already in their red dresses. Down, down we went knowing it would be uphill soon. We came to a familiar log crossing which tested our gymnastic balance beam skills and continued up, down hills and across water crossings.
When I thought we must have been coming to an out trail the hares led us in another direction
and we came to different trails. We began to wonder where we would eventually come out.
Finally after the hares had taken us over most of the hills in Diplo we came out at down the road near the Indonesian residence. It was probably good training for when I do Mount Kinabalu in May.Thank you hares.
The shout up was a very lively colourful affair. With many first time guests who needed some shaving skills. They were introduced and the hens who had found animals in the jungle are presented with wings.
The best dressed paraded in style and were rewarded.
Mrs Pinggu entertained us with a joke and one first time guest (Capt Darling) recited a very funny poem about a cross dresser at Gadong Market.
The hashit were jointly taken by Hash Hound for not passing on the horn and Lone Ranger for forgetting his wife's Hash Name.
The food was a delicious feast of Roti, salads, Dips, cakes and melon.
The inaugural Red Dress Run was a great success with $500 being raised for One Stop Brunei.
Good work Committee. Lets hope it can now become a yearly event.

Tuesday dawned to a rather nasty fog gracing Bandar. One of my col-leagues pointed out this would mean the day was going to be a hot one. He was definitely right! Once the fog lifted we were blessed with a beautiful, clear, sunny day with not even the threat of rain. And so it was, in the swel-tering heat of the late afternoon, we all gathered at Mentiri Waterfalls keen and eager to tackle the run.
The gracious and kind hares had taken pity on those of us who are on the fitness challenged side and provided three possible runs. The short and easy run was said to be 2km’s (and I can tell you this was totally true), with a medium run of 2.5km’s and a long run of 5.5km’s. The runners greeted the news of the 5.5k run with cheers of excitement (can anyone else say "crazy!").
5.15 quickly rolled around and off we all went towards the in trail. From there we went up. And up. And up. Luckily for me there was a bit of a plateau about half way up where I was able to catch my breath before heading up again (yep, sadly the up’s were not all done yet.)
Once we reached the top of the hill (mountain?) it was along the trail to the right towards where a rather unsightly road has been cut right through the middle of this beautiful jungle. We crossed the road and headed back into the jungle where we quickly stumbled onto the first check. To find the paper again we had to go back across the road and deeper into the jungle on the waterfall side.
The trail was absolutely gorgeous (as the jungle always is in Brunei) and gently undulated along the ridgeline for a while. Shortly thereafter we found a fork in the track that led us (those who chose the short trail) down the origi-nal hill we had climbed (am I the only one thinking it may have been a bit pointless to climb it in the first place?)
After crossing a couple of streams (after all it’s not a hash without at least one water crossing!) we passed over a clearing and out past the swimming hole. That water sure looked inviting!
After exiting the jungle it was off to The Recruiters place for the shout up, where we got to meet Mean Machines guest who regaled us with the story of her visit to Kampong Ayer where she saw some "promiscuous" monkeys.
The hares honored St Paddy’s day with excellent poetry created by those lucky enough to find a shamrock in the jungle, and with a quiz (which was bloody hard!) The shout up was then followed by an excellent spread of tra-ditional Irish fare (which perfectly complimented the totally excellent green punch - yum!)
A very enjoyable evening was had by all, and the Hares deserve a huge thank you for such a great St Paddy’s Day celebration run.
Next week’s run is the H3 inaugural Red Dress. Don’t forget to wear red and bring a donation for our nominated charity, One Stop Wildlife. See you all at Diplo.

RUN NO. 2429
DATE: 10MAR2015
SITE: DST
HARES: RYVITA/PEACHI KEEN/MEANMACHINE/ITCHY FEET
“Words don’t come easy,” said my fellow hares. So I landed the job but that gets me out of washing up!!!
DST is always good to stretch ones legs and run/jog/ or stroll around depending on how you feel when you arrive at the site. As I was on Back horn I happily plodded round the trail. I was on hand when the front runners had disappeared into the distance and first check was an “on back”. I was just behind Tiffany who found it. The horn came in handy, so we didn’t have to use our voices to get everyone’s attention.
Most of the run was as flat as a pancake with a few rise and falls, a bit of tromping through the jungle and a splash in the mud to finish. Second check was found by Speedy and Hash Hound sniffed out the third (or was it the other way round? – can’t remember as I asked that question after the gin swirls)
Short run;
A handful of us decided to go on the short run for a nice walk about and go slow as we like. On the first turning, lo and behold was a swirly. MGTS saw it first so she took that one. And then we lost pink paper and as we were looking about I found a swirly. On paper we went with JM’s Squeak & Twinkle Toes and Smurf not far behind. By the time we twisted, side stepped, oh look a less muddier and wet path, we have counted up to 9 swirls stuck all along the short run after each of us got a swirl. And guess where we ended up before the out… the bog! There was nowhere around the bog but to slosh slowly right through.
The shout up was rather eventful as we welcomed a new member Karen, who unfortunately forgot when to drink so was awarded the Hash Shit later in the night. But then again our JM was having trouble with her words and that was before the gin started swirling.
Our JM entertained us with a Dr. Seuss poem which had been adapted especially for Jane. She has procrastinated for a long time about joining the hash - as she doesn’t like water, mud, going under or over logs, snakes, creepy crawlies or anything else that one might associate with the ladies hash in Brunei. Think it was the social life and wonderful ladies that make Tuesdays so lovely that finally enticed her. Jane is now known as “Sam I am”.
There were a few announcements – red dress day on the 24th March and Hash relay in April. Crumpets were on sale but not for the next few weeks so hope you stocked up. New Zealand Ass is holding an amazing race in May.
The March birthdays were celebrated and lots of cake was consumed – ladies are always willing to break the diet or healthy eating for a piece of chocolate heaven. Lucky for our waist lines the hares had prepared yummy salads to balance it all out. (Trailblazer shouted security with leftover chocolate cake, got a "Thank You"!)
Mean Machine introduced us to a new game – Gin swirl – a real hit that I’m sure will make a re-appearance. 4 ladies to a team, but as Smurf discovered it is better if you are all the same height – stand around a Frisbee filled with Gin and lemonade. It is swirled around and you drink when the liquid comes near your mouth (not snorted up your nose as someone tried). Now I know why the Frisbee was invented!!!!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!!! Happy Year of the Sheep....or Ram...or Goat....
The Chinese New Year celebration run, once again, saw us back at Diplo for our weekly frolic through the jungle. Many of the usual suspects and one first time guest were on site for the late afternoon jaunt. Without much info to go on, other than that there was n obscene amount of paper on the trail, I (Mean Machine) sounded the horn to signal the start. Diplo allows for some good running stretches and the front runners blazed ahead in search of the first check. The checks were all found quite quickly - I am only sure of Ryvita and Speedy Gonzalez.... Tiffany might have found one, too :) - and with all of them being "on, on, on back", that obscene amount of paper ended up in my hands!
During the first loop of this 2km'ish run (yes there was a group of hardcore hahsers who went in for round two) there was some new jargon being yelled out: "onon shimmie, onon scoot (Tiffany trying to cross the log!), onon squat, onon dodge", Diplo makes for some interesting calls.
The onon was a feast of many delights. It was prefaced with the usual introductions, entertainment (nice to have Mrs Pingu back for this) and a celebration of Tiffany for her 50th run... YAY! (I have mentioned Tiffany far too many times..haha) With no hashit to give out, it was onto the CNY portion of the evening. It began with a 'blessing toss to help bring good fortune to those who participated and were able to adeptly maneuvere the chopsticks to keep the food on the plate! The food was scrumptious and included, my personal favourite, "shrinking uterus sou;" - Yummy!!
Next week's run is at DST and it will be a completely different run from two weeks ago. The long run will be a bit over 5km - with only one big'ish hill - and the short run will be .....short. There is some swampy areas - choose shoes accordingly. No need for long pants or sleeves.
Onon will be 'on site' - be prepared for some deliciousness.
Cheers, Mean Machine, Ryvita, Peachi Keen and Itchy Feet

RUN NO. 2426
SITE: SPG 378 SUBOK
DATE: 17 FEB 2015
HARES: DANI/HASHHOUND/SPEEDY GONZALEZ
FRONT HORN: PEACHI KEAN BACK HORN: THE RECRUITER
At last a day of no rain and no sign of rain in the abode so it was we collected at the edge of Jln Sungai Akar/Subok on another Tuesday afternoon. Quite a few cars gathered at the bottom of Spg 378 for what we'd been told was to be a substantial work out on some old trails of 5+ km!!! Oh okay we're we ready for this!
All signed in when our JM announced that there were to be 3 checks no surprises there and each would be on different coloured paper, a multi coloured hash this was to be.
Front horn Peachi Keen and back horn Recruiter were there to guide the pack up, up and up that damned hill, those of us who have previously hashed or laid in this area before will remember it well but previously we drove it and it would have been a damn sight easier to drive but no we walked, trotted and I'm sure there were some who ran up it too. Up and up until we reached the water towers and little hut, around and scramble up the bank and into the jungle, phew a good start for the 5 km.
A lot of clearing had been done by the hares, good work and thank you I certainly re-member it had previously been a hellish scramble over a tree fall to get into the ridge but the newly cleared path was a welcome sight.
Off along the ridge trail passing Glamour as we go to stop at the junction - in or out trail now there's a choice!
Of course as a responsible hasher you are suppose to go on the in trail but as con-trary hashers we decided to head on along the out!! Our reasoning 5+ km sounds too long after a 5 hour recce last week, we always make the words up anyway and we know that the in-trail will head down and down into the wet valley!! Were we right??
Well not about the length of the run as apparently the hares based this on their recce and had to re-calculate the length once they laid it to about 3 km.
About the run yes along the lovely ridge the run did wander to first check and the valley floor, a stream, a meandering they went until it was back up and up to the opposite ridge which is where we met the on coming hash. (we are definitely right about making up most of the hash words!!!)
A word to future hashers if you don't want to stay in the jungle to lay through a lolipop run then mark the trail with a gap and sign not so obviously as this weeks run as yes contrary runners like us will go reverse but more importantly the whole hash has been made aware of the direction of your run and so the checks become easy peasy to predict which according to the first few front runners we met including front horn Peachi Keen and Mean machine they shouted as they thundered past "Checks were easy", we asked "found by who?" so we could congratulate them in the words but their answer was lost to the wind as they ran on. So whoever you were, that found the three colourful checks and I think at least one was found by Mean machine - well done and keep it up.
At this point Cheryl's phone rang and our report was interrupted by a facetime conversation with her son in Melbourne!!! What fun we have in Brunei jungle and oh the joys of internet communications
We hoped he wouldn't send the picture viral but children will be children!!! and it was on facebook before we got out of the jungle. Thankfully we don't think it was a hash-it able of-fence.
Lovely ridge trails out with the regular ups and downs of this area saw the hashers back out to walk, jog, run or wobble back down the tarmac hill to the drinks and cars. A lovely area reopened up by the hares, a day of no rain, a lot of great trail clearing... thank you ladies and all in all another memorable ladies hash.
Off to the on-on we went, JM's in full flow we heard, one guest with Ryvita a very sensible lady who choose the hash and a sleep in instead of crossfit called Linda (I think, sorry if wrong). Two new members hurrah but they were missing!!! a returning Satu Lagi..... again!!!! showed how a down-down should be done and reminded us to be thankful for super spend, see you again soon Satu Lagi. No hashit but Mrs Pingu was back so a good laugh we all had at the expense of those blokes.
A few announcements we had as well, hash relay, first red dress run, flour and bun cases to pass on from Iron woman what else?? (which will be put to good use this week for the On-On) and then very welcome and absolutely delicious pumpkin and chick pea curry with salad followed by flapjack ..... yummy the end of a good hashing day.
This week's run ....... well after a 5 hour recce, much shiggy, river crossing, tearing of leggings and many hills climbed and that hasn't been our only search of the area we have elected for an alternative route you will be pleased to hear and that's all I'm saying. Enjoy there will be decisions to make on the run so decide for yourselves!!! On-on

HARES: PSYCHO/RIPPER/RUSH HOUR/NAP
Valentine's run at good old Diplo, lost were the girls but found their way out which lead to a short walk and a short run for all to wonder off with thoughts of who know who and what to get. Sure our hares must have been distracted giving the runners an other debacle; the on paper split in two ways...a short of short-short-run and a short-long-run. Off we plotted in the longer direction, as for some clearer grounds than for others.
Lots of ups and downs a fantastic shouts from our spiderweb clearing Mean Machine.
Checks were found but lost track of whom, good job done though. Hearts were lost and found in the jungle which awarded us with prices from our Hares.
Most of us enjoyed both jungle trails ending up with a lovely short run for the night. Wonderful food and a kisses quiz ended the night early and sweet.
Next weeks run after a few attempts and chopping away like lady lumberjacks we have you a trail! Long it will be (compensation of last weeks chocolate chip cookies to burn those calories)! For those who aren't keen on a long run we will lay your first check slightly past 1K so you'll have a nice workout too!
For those coming late please think smart! 5.5K was measured so bring enough water and a torch for the out! Second part of the run is loads easier, or maybe was it that we had to chop less?!
NEXT RUN: SPG 378 SG AKAR
HARES: DANI/HASH HOUND/SPEEDY GONZALES
Park on the road shoulder of Jln Subok as the access to the water tower is too narrow to park and drive up.

After
a grueling work out session on Monday night that left my quads
aching, I was dreading the run at the Mentiri (killer) hills. As
usual I was late, and I saw Hornbill at the sign-in board who pointed
at the “out” route which was much nearer than the “in” so I
decided to go the other way around until I hit back horn to turn
back. She warned me about the nasty hill up but I decided to try it
anyway. Halfway through the run, after passing most of the hashers, I
was told most of the run was flat-ish so decided to try and finish
it. Fear of being stuck alone in a dark jungle kept me running. So
glad for a dry hash for a change! I was told Ryvita and her guest,
Anika (?) found the checks and that the first one was particularly
sneaky. They were certainly well laid through so late comers like me
were not lost. Thank you!
On
On was at our lovely GM’s house where I was hoping to see the big
elephant she’s working on but I think it’s in her studio at
school. One of our JM’s was sporting a new haircut and the hens
were a chatty bunch that night. There was lots to go through! We had
one FTG, Sarah from Japan who was brought by Peachi Keen. Lovely to
see two returning hashers, Doris and Izzie who dragged each other
back. Bunny Girl celebrated 250 runs and shared the history of how
she got her hash handle. Sid was renamed Goodnight Kiwi. Sadly, we
had to say goodbye to Ironwoman who is moving to a Singapore (so she
may be able to come back for some runs).
Quite
a few announcements too! JM’s reminded all upcoming hares that
organize runs with on-on at a different site should ensure the
address of the on-on goes on Henswords. Cheryl announced that the
Seranai (sp) singers are performing some jazzy tunes on 6th
and
7th
of
March. Wonderwoman brought some bags from the Philippines for sale
and the Hash Shop is having a sale throughout the month of February
to clear stock!
There
was a flutter of confusion for the most fun bit as Paula was supposed
to get hashit for not signing out. However, she stated that she had
signed in and out as a guest as she had not paid her subs. Ironwoman
had been a bit too clever and ticked Paula’s name on the list to
sign her in…both Paula and Ironwoman escaped hashit but hashit was
given to Peachi Keen! Are you lost? I am too! LOL!
We
were served hot dogs and bread accompanied by fried onions by the
hares. Yum Yum!
Sorry
for being so long winded!
Next
week’s run is at Diplo! First run at Diplo for 2015 and it’s
Valentine’s Run. Wear red or pink or hearts if you fancy. Lots of
fun and games planned so do come and bring guests too!

The sky looked ominous as we arrived at Rimba and everyone was thinking bout the recent rain and how muddy it was likely to be in the jungle.
The trail gradually became muddier and muddier then luckily cleared on to a less slippery track
I am sorry I cannot tell you about the checks because as usual I was one of the tail enders.
The trail continued winding and twisting and I was just thinking we had come to the end of the mud when I found myself knee deep a few times. Luckily the water clean the mud off my shoes.
Thank you hares including 3 virgins for a good run and thank you for sparing us the waist deep water you went through.
At the shout up one first time guest was introduced. Emily from London who spent her younger years in Brunei.
There was to be one new member who had apparently left but according to the board was still in the jungle. Oh dear.
Peachy Keen and Smurf shared the Hashit for forgetting the horn and talking during the shout up.
Delicious pasta and chocolate cake was served

Just
round the corner from my house is a lovely run which we have not done
for a very long time. Mean Machine led us into the jungle tooting
her horn. Dani brought up the rear with a whistle, as the horn was
sitting in her kitchen.
Off the front runners charged up a slippery
slope and were soon out of sight. The walkie talkies plodded in,
hanging on to branches, pushing and pulling each other up the steep
muddy incline. “Thorns to the left” “thorns to the right”
“thorns underfoot” was called by hashers to warn of nasty spiky
things lurking in the jungle. The trail led us along paths that gave
us spectacular views and a lovely wander by the reservoir.
The
back group caught up with the front runners who had spent 20 minutes
looking for a cheeky back check. It was found by a very surprised
Kim at the same time as Hash Hound was asking for hints from the
hares. Then it was back across muddy flat land - ready for more
housing - for the shout up.
There
were two first time guest FTGs Karen (Aussie) and Georgina (Brit) who
had been well coached. Hope to see them both again soon. Mrs
Pingu’s dad did her proud with a joke. Possum gave us a farting
joke and then it was time for Hash Shit – given to Dani of course.
Thank

Holidays are over, and some 50 hashers
gathered at PeeWee's for the first run of the year. Knowing Subok, we
were all bracing ourselves for the inevitable: up the hills we'd go!
With some ducking and diving (mostly
from Mean Machine), Hash Hound picked the front horn, and we were
ready to go. The run started gently through the Subok water falls and
then it was up, up, up, up, up.
The first check was a bit cheeky but
from then on the run was pretty straight forward. More up, up, up and
then down, down, down. The story goes that the Hares were scared by a
pack of stray dogs, so it was slightly improvised. But a good run
nonetheless, less mud than last time!
The new committee was finally present
in its full capacity, and welcomed us into the New Year. No Hash Shit
was dashed out as no one had brought a bucket, despite of few
candidates. We had two first time guests and one new member. Mrs
Pingu provided us with some Hash Entertainment with a delightful
arsehole joke (you had to be there…. It was actually quite funny.)
She promised more for the future hashes. The shoes that have done the
rounds since the run at Dizzy's finally found their rightful owner
and some announcements were made that I can't remember…. Except for
a problem with the Hash Shop - some helpers are needed.
Unseasonably for January, the skies
stayed clear so everyone migrated from underneath the marquee to
enjoy the the beautiful sunset with delicious curry and some German
treats for pudding. Hopefully this year will carry on like it
started!

When
I arrived on site at twinkle toes house the hashers already came out
of the jungle. Sorry, but it seems to be the norm nowadays that I am
late from work.
After
several days of hard rain, the skies cleared just in time for the run
to commence. The Horn blew and into the jungle we went. Due to the
afore mentioned rain, we were all trying to grab onto the nearest
anything to keep from falling. Finally, after much slipping and
sliding, we regained our footing, and down the well-marked trail we
went.
The
first and only check was found after a bit of searching and we were off once
again only to find that we had to cross a mighty river (see above
reference to torrential rain) via a log that somehow got stuck just
enough to make bridge that had everyone thinking that maybe swimming
wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
After
counting heads to make sure no souls had been lost to crocs, snakes
and god knows what other creatures, the trail was quickly found. Up
to the ridge, past the secret garden gate and out into the clear we
stumbled only to find that one last challenge in the form of climbing
down a sheer rock face awaited us.
Start of the descend!
Once that was conquered by all, it was a much appreciated easy walk back for the On-On.
Once that was conquered by all, it was a much appreciated easy walk back for the On-On.
As
we were so few hashers, the shout-up took place in Twinkle Toes
house, which was good, as the lawn area was very wet after all the
rain.
We
had the usual down down for the hares, then thereafter no
announcements, no jokes, no Hash shit. (By the way, I took the hash
shit along to Pee Wee’s house, just in case anyone is looking for
it).
Thank
you, hares, for the nice chicken curry, the delicious sandwiches and

It was a Christmas Eve before Christmas Eve where two of our hens had laid us two different trails for all to join, the group was small but split into two with horns for security brought by Alison and Hash Hound. A smaller trail up the mountain and steep down over some logs and through some dirt to find the road to the sing out board. With Alison's help Glamour made it out safe and sound and finished the entire short run, what an accomplishment.
The long route brought us op that mountain as well, but down and around over the ridge through the monkeys and down the slopes back to the water pools where nice juice boxes were left for those thirsty....aka rubbish darn them.
The sisters Pang has joined us on both runs and came shortly trotting from the jungle so off we went to Hot Lips' Xmas stall where wonderful food came to table from all.
A bag filling up with secret Santa gifts and a night ready to start.
Christmas songs were played, mulled wine kept us warm and a Christmas quiz let us into the evening. We ate our tummies full as there was loads for all, thanks ladies for your wonderful contribution. No hashit was given on the night and no announcements other than Merry Xmas to all far away and close!

Well, what can one say? It was another lovely day for our run at Kapok Kanan.
A quiet run once again as lots have left us to celebrate all over the world. None the less, we still had a great time.
The run went well. There was a sneaky first back check and a small trail I had never encountered before which took us in a roundabout way to the ridge. Unfortunately a few of us got bitten by some bities. They weren't hornets or wasps as they didn't buzz but boy did they sting. Fortunately they weren't as long lasting in pain as the hornets and no first aid needed to be administered and all ended well.
Its so pretty on this run and the views never disappoint. I actually saw a beautiful eagle when driving down the kapok Kanan road. Its so good to still see the wildlife in the built up areas.
Afterwards we had the most laid back shout up of all time. We all sat down in our chairs... JM and all. We all toasted my 400th run and exchanged stories of when we joined the hash. No grievences emerged and no hash shit given. We do have someone in mind though for this next xmas run so I wont spoil it for the recipient! Hee hee. We had some yummy rotis followed by mince pies and white chocolate cake. All washed down with a special liquid refreshment. Xmas music again in the background.

It was another hot, humid day in paradise but that didn't put off the few of us who were left these xmas holidays. We gathered at Pee Wee's house and braced ourselves for the upcoming hill we knew was imminent.
It was a good workout. We went up, up and up! Then down, down, down.
The breeze and views worth it at the top. The first check was sneaky but after that all was straight forward. A couple of hashers returned looking very seasoned and muddy. Otherwise all went well with no problems.
No hash shit dealt or news/announcements conveyed.
Afterwards we were given a real treat of curry and mulled wine by Pee Wee and Tiffany. Then the xmas music was played so we all left in a very festive mood. What a lovely run to start off the festive season. Thank you so much!!!

So we’re in the festive season and our hash is a wee bit quiet compared to usual. But there were plenty of us nonetheless. Those of us who have hashed for a while recognised Dizzy’s tactics We did the same run last time. So up the hill the FRBs went, canny hashers such as myself thought, ‘stuff that, there’ll be a check there, I know where the on-paper will be.’ Indeed I was correct and the on-paper was down the road. I knew paper would go up the hill at Bukit Serdang, but it wasn’t very well laid so I had re-lay a lot so hashers could see where it was going. So…...upupupupupupupupupupupupup, along, upupupupu, along, upupupupupupup, DOWN and down we went very carefully until we hit the road again.
Back at Dizzy’s we had a lovely pasta dinner Great shout up. Ready for next week’s run which will be very similar, just the next ridge along on on xx
