RUN NO. 2391 LUCKY GARDENS 17JUN2014

RUN NO. 2391
DATE: 17JUN2014
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: SATU LAGI/RYVITA

So we were expecting a slightly longer run than is usual for our ladies hash. 5.15 and everyone was raring to go, sort of…...So off everyone went, heading into the labyrinthine run site that is Diplo. Well, what lay ahead certainly didn’t disappoint.

Never ending hills. Up, up, up……..down, down, down……..peppered with a good amount of water crossings. First check was duly found by Jeannie, so after a bit of checking, everyone was back on paper in good time, in time for me - you guessed it - up, up, up…….followed by more down, down, down and more water crossings.

I think there was a pattern emerging here. Sadly, I cannot remember who found second check, but I do know it was followed by more of the aforementioned pattern. Third check really stumped everyone, and took quite a while to find, eventually Sid found the on paper - all down to experience I reckon, well done Sid, as by this time most hashers were pretty tired and ready to be out.

It was a bit further than most people anticipated to get out, but out everyone came. It was dark by now and approaching 7 o’clock, and a merry gaggle of recreational hashers greeted the runners. Everyone was treated to a nice little coffee upon their signing out. The JMs conducted a great shout up, the hares graciously took the hashit (a variety of offences I think - too many to mention) and we were treated to a lovely laksa. And so the evening slowly faded into night, under the starry tropical skies, in an atmosphere of camaraderie and conviviality. On on.

Hares: Trailblazer/WonderWoman/Squeak/Twinkle Toes

Midsummer run came out of nowhere and we are now officially half way through our hash-ing year. The run at Kapok Kanan was an updown Serasa hill run. We went right just be-low the G&T pondok – there was a check but my apologies for not knowing who found it. Up the top and along the ridge – lovely view as always but not liking the “progress” they have made on PMB. And back down we go, myself chatting to Paula about Mulu. Just close to the out I had a big pin-prick to my thigh and back at camp learnt that I was not the only one – little wasps maybe; most had a bite each and Trailblazer was kind to dispense her ointment to everyone. Mandi, over with we headed to Dr. Dolittle’s house for “50 Shades of Hashing” – Thank you JMs and Committee for our lovely gifts of tshirts and windscreen shades. Well done to the Committee on the entertainment with very amusing lyrics - credits to Madam Sin. Delicious Afghan food was served (more garlic anyone?) and as a treat there was also some token exchanging – I love special runs! Oh and I got the hashshit with Paula for leaving my pouch onsite (Thanks again Sticky) and Paula for forgetting to sign-in!

Hash Shit!
And this week is a special run for me. It’s the last run I’m laying before the move. My co-hare is Ryvita who I have enjoyed running with (me always trying to catch up!) and also co-hared with. Our site is Diplo where I had my first run – and Squeek too. We did our first three runs together and became members on the same night – that infamous one at Mor-ley Movers!!

Don't want to bore everyone with my reminiscing so here's my summary of hashing:

Things I learned on the hash
  • how to use a parang
  • how to crush a can (thanks Smurf)
  • how to take a proper down-down (thanks Alison
  • how to handle a bucket of water with price
  • how to re-leg Cambodia
Things I will miss about the hash
  • The Bruneian jungle
  • all of you
  • the Adds (from the bottom!)
  • fact that Tuesday will be just another weeknight
  • my outdoor showers
  • the "satu lagis"
Top memorable moments
  • Laying my first run at Kapok Kanan with Smurf and Madam Sin. At the top we bumped into a group of Bomba who had come to rescue a group of Koreans one of whom had lost his glasses!
  • My relief driver ramming into PeeWee's Swifty at DST
  • Leaving my bra on Madam Sin's car window which went all the way to school the next morning!
On on Hens ...- and never turn down that satu lagi!

This week's run:
My ideal hash involving everything - there might even be a bit of emotion thrown in!
Walkie-talkies if you go in late please go as far as first check only. And walkie-talkies may need torches, more walking, less talking!

RUN NO. 2389 MATAMATA 3JUN2014

RUN NO. 2389
DATE: 3 JUN 2014
SITE: MATAMATA
HARES: ALICE IN WONDERLAND/JENNI FROM THE BLOCK/VELMA

Running late.... really wanted to do the run as it is Mata-Mata and a privilege to be able to enjoy the jungle there.  On approaching the road off the roundabout – barrier down! help.... well the H3 sign is there, all good, man popped out of the kiosk, gives him a wave and barrier goes up.

Remembered having to park on one side, but then I can only see three cars..... oops ... I see a sign as I approach slowly, through the rough and up on the other side of the road.  The tent is there, all good.

Left the crockery baskets on the table, signed in and caught up with Sticky Rice and Zoe who had just pulled up. Great, some company for the “walk”. Up the usual track and we sent Zoe ahead to set the pace.  As we got to the top and wound down to the river bed, we could hear ladies chatting – we found Julieanne lying in paid over the log that we had to cross.  We were only one km in and if I remember rightly it was first check, and a few ladies had passed us earlier saying someone was hurt and they were walking out to get help.

Zur and Wonder Woman, and a few others were on hand to try and make Julieanne comfortable. Sticky Rice found some painkillers and handed that over., seems to work for a while.  Trailblazer went up to higher ground to try and get reception to check on the “rescue” situation and finally managed to get hold of Smurf and was advised that the ambulance had arrived.  Sticky Rice, Zoe and Trailblazer decided as nothing much could be done till the ambulance men arrived, to carry on a bit at least to the top before darkness fell.  Off we went again and decided by 6.10 that it was time to turn around and the sun was already setting.  Quickly trotted down the hill, slowly looked around the corner where Julieanne was last on the log, and was relieved to find no one was there... oh good, the ambulance men had been, but soon we could hear chattering.... and we caught up with the stretcher with Julieanne strapped in. On stretcher duty were ladies with the ambulance men taking turns. Alice in Wonderland and Speedy Gonzales came in with 100-plus and water as well.

Soon we were relieved to see more men.... the ambulance had called out the Search & Rescue Bomba.... we teased Julieanne that it was rather extreme action to get “men on the hash”, she might get a hashit.  Ladies sang songs, and made jokes as the journey out was long and windy and hard.  At last after about an hour (we were out) and Julieanne made comfortable in the ambulance and off to Ripas.

The Bomba probably felt they had done much of a rescue and when the barrier was down as they sped off towards the exit, took their calipers out and cut the padlock!  Poor Alice in Wonderland could see that was going to be the case, but as she knew the padlock was not attached to anything, tried her best to get there before the deed was done, ... alas too late, padlock snipped! Off the ambulance went.

The excitement of men on the hash soon settled down after 100-plus and water was handed round.  The police even came for a little patrol, so not many hash can boast of having all three services at the hash in one evening.

There was no official shoutup... The hares celebrated special runs and thanks for the t-shirts.  Velma celebrated her 60th birthday as well. Thanks for the yummy food.

A few of us were left after the main coup left and as we were quietly minding our own business saw a car speed back up, ... it was Alice in Wonderland with a new padlock for the security guard since their padlock had been snipped by the Bomba.... enough of excitement. 9 p.m. and we left the site....

This week should be back to normality.

RUN.... not too long as we would like all to enjoy the Mid Year party.

RUN NO. 2388 DST 27MAY2014

RUN NO. 2388
DATE: 27 MAY 2014
SITE: DST
HARES: TRAILBLAZER/JESSIE/PSYCHO
FRONT HORN: RYVITA    BACK HORN: WONDER WOMAN

***We went recce at Mata2 site on the faithful morning of Tuesday (H3 hashing day). Not a good idea indeed, all of us were in fact extremely exhausted due to progressing morning heat. The trail was purposively and moderately short end up near 9km. Nonetheless, we still arrived at DST site faithfully. I promised Hash Shop to mind her shop for a couple of weeks, so I stayed on to arrange the store and at the same time taking care of the site (there were other non-hashers ‘Men’ – with a red tent near by); Velma went off to take a walk while ‘Jenny from the block’ took off to do the full run (despite the hectic recce the morning before, good on her). This run report would not be possibility complete if not for ‘Squeek’ who graciously agreed to write the below (indeed we are grateful).***….

### On arriving at the DST site ready for hash, we were a small but stalwart group of hens this week. I think a lot of people took advantage of the international school’s mid-term break to go away for a holiday. Once the horn went off, we took off straight down the barricaded road along a slightly sloped trail to a T-section with the first check to the right.

From there we could have continued right and then looped around to a couple of streams, or we could have backtracked to the wide open barren space on the left and then quickly home, or gone into the thorny scrubby regrowth on the other side of the T intersection. However, none of these were the correct way – Peewee looked to the left hand side of the intersection and there found the onon paper. Once again we were off and the road quickly turned into a narrower trail.

Next the paper took a sharp left and into the promised scratchy bracken and cutty grass. However the hares had done such a good job of trampling the path my long sleeves were untested by the surroundings. Then the SWAMP – sloppy, muddy and deeeeeeeppppp! The check went right on the fire trail so the hens had to flail about in the marsh until Zoe called the onon paper.

From there it was a straight run down the trail and through a couple more swamps then back onto the road for a quick run up to the tent.####

***AT the ‘Shout out’:- Down down was given to the young and youthful Hares (Senior hares as consultants were also there); then thanks were given to Front Horn – Ryvita and Back Horn – Wonder Woman. There been no ‘First Time Guest’, No new member, No announcement, No joke and all behaved well to have No Hashit as well. Alice in wonderland jumped in to inform that for this week run all hashers are advised to park sensibly, a H3 sign will be prop up at the turn in point to guide all to park on the other side of the lot just to prevent everyone’s car from unnecessary knock over by heavy duty vehicles around the work site road. The evening was grace by Hares who served us delicious ‘Laksa’ with either ‘Bee Hoon’ or ‘Egg noodels’ to choose. We are all filled and happy, such is life of Ladies H3 every Tuesday evenings. On on.

PART I (BY JESSIE)
Back at good old Diplo for Smurf’s celebratory run. As I always arrive late due to work I was looking forward to doing the whole run when I was told it was a short one. Squeak was just about to go in with a guest when I headed in with one of my sisters. Lovely walk in but I took it slow downhill due to my phobia of falling and injuring my ankle so we quickly lost sight of Squeak after a while. Came down to a fork in the path and followed the left one where we had seen Squeak disappear down. After a while we realized we couldn’t see paper anymore so backtracked to when we last saw it. Right at the fork in the path, paper went down the right so we followed that. Saw that it was first check. Led us right up to the stream which we crossed twice to look for the connecting paper but couldn’t. After spending a while searching all avenues and hearing the rumble of thunder we decided to turn back rather disgruntled. Saw some lovely pitcher plants on the way back. Was told that Squeak actually went the right way (as she was one of the hares) and if we had continued following her we would have found the connecting paper. Check paper was not laid through properly which led to our confusion. Fortunately Smurf’s punch (ironically mixed by Psycho) was there to cheer me up as was the lovely company topped off with fish and chips for dinner! Hope you ladies enjoyed this week’s run! On on!

PART II (BY TRAILBLAZER)
I started the run ten minutes late as was helping Duchess of Cambridge deliver water due to prior school commitments. Hashhound was busying herself getting things together as Wonder Woman was otherwise occupied with settling her husband home after his accident – we wish Arnold speedy recovery.

Once signed in I raced in – waved to someone in the distance on what I believe to be the out trail – I must be needing glasses to see – but I could guess who it was (I am not telling). Sped down the track following Legally Blonde who has been missing quite a few hashes (few? Mega!) and the ladies missing their G & Ts. Cross the stream and then caught up with the others at first check.  Crossed the stream and then heard the on called back.  When back check is called, this is where the back horn is very useful in guiding hens who have gone checking back to the on as there would be no paper to follow and they can only rely on the horn to get back on track – a good tip too is always go checking with someone and if you are on your own, let someone know you are out checking so they will ensure you are back with the group in case you cut back ahead.  AS Jessie said, unfortunately first check was not linked properly and she was unable to finish the run as coul not find the check.  Ladies, when the check is called, the one on the check must pick up the paper plus those on the way back to the “on” so that those coming in after will have paper to follow.  Also, if there is a different colour hens will also be able to recognise that it was the first check and decide whether they want to turn around or carry on depending on time reaching the  coloured paper.

As usual the trail wound around and as promised the hares had found trails without hills! But alas, Sid and I on second check decided to go down the ridge and when the “on” was called back – again (hang on, I thought that was my trait – back checks.... most times.....) we were both down the bottom o the ridge and had to clamber back up... that was our hill we found.  Perhaps we (more so SID than me!!) decided we needed some extra workout to get our Sportstracker statistics looking good not to mention calories burned.

Once 2nd check was found, the trail was easy and we as we left the stream  we came upon a group of ladies knee deep looking for a lost phone – which was eventually found – hope our visitor was able to get the phone going again. On back to the trail as we headed out within the hour. I did mutter as I found the on paper on 2nd check that it was not linked...... we were lucky no one got left in the jungle as we stayed together and easier to find our way out! Next lesson needed regarding how to link the paper after we learn how to call “on, on, on, paper” lol.

PART III (BY PSYCHO)
I helped Smurf lay her run and virgin hare mona came along. We did the recce and laid the run with the help of 2/3 of the canine unit. Of course at the end of it, while we wait for the hash to go into the jungle, we toasted a "happy birthday amber-beverage-that-shall-not-be-named" to smurf. And two fags later … we were back out at the tent. the usual business of loading and unloading of hash gear, change of attire... have a fag and an amber-beverage-that-shall-not-be-named while I sit at the back of my car.

Of course such 2 minutes peace is soon broken with the sound of smurf yelling …. ive the tonic, ive the cultured water, ive the juice, ive ice ….etc etc etc..... so yep... you guessed it... I made the punch. I should have put a warning label on "SUPER HAPPY JUICE - MADE BY PSYCHO - CONSUME AT OWN RISK" hahahaha...well seeing the word PSYCHO should already put you on your guard and if you haven't and you had the punch...well you learned the hard way.

Sid made a birthday cake, a lovely melt in your mouth chocolate that smurf stabbed hahaha... there were a few announcements that I absolutely do not remember, jances and somebody else got the hashit... hash hound had a last minute I feel guilty splashing them with water and threw it in a big sweep that didn’t hit anything... possum to the rescue and hashitters were well doused.

NEXT RUN: DST – Watch out for the beautiful flowering Simpur and great pitcher plants. Remember to wear longs of everything. the grass is as tall as a flag pole.

RUN NO. 2386
DATE: 13 MAY 2014

HARES: PEEWEE/TONGS/TIFF

Tuesday - as ever, a day of decisions:
Hash / Don’t hash / Stay at home and sleep / Stay at work and….sleep!
Short run / Long run / House hunting / Stay on site

HASH – OK! So ………  Long run / Short run / Continue when encounter first incline / Go back
Hill up, now do I go down? Or continue UP?  And UP?  Yes there were 3 steep UPS!  At last, we reached the ridge.  View / no view / too knackered to look / DEAD!
In fact, as usual, the view over the entire ‘abode’ was stunning; a wending winding ridge trail; a cooling breeze (maybe that is my imagination!)

More decisions : Long or short?  No contest really! The people I talked to, took the short (er) option.

DOWN / SLIP / SLIDE / MUD / DOWN / SLIP / SLIDE / MUD  and many more! Until we reached the building site (Psycho’s new home in the building!) and home!

A lovely set of runs, enjoyed by all; not the expected trail. Girls were happy, hares were happy and then the biggest decision of all – water / 100+ / green / blue????
No choice there – got to be BLUE!!

At the shout up hares were thanked for run and food. We welcomed back Possum after 6 weeks away proper house hunting! And 2 new members were introduced.

An evening  of makan-ing, minum-ing and bercakap-ing continued under drizzly skies.  Wasn’t the sensible night I planned, but, there again, I should have thought of that. When have I EVER left Pee Wee’s early?!!

This week’s run – usual Diplo stuff, with ups and downs and rivers and mud and trails and trees and…….  But it isn’t too long, honest!

HARES: SPEEDY GONZALEZ/HASH HOUND/DEBBIE
FRONT HORN: SARAH
BACK HORN: THE RECRUITER

Another beautiful evening at the Mentiri pools. Definitely something for everyone on this hash with long, short, and very short trails laid. Front horn, Sarah, led all the hashers along the path, in past the first main pool and then the decision as to which length of trail came early on in the form of a sign. For the long option it was up, up, up to the left. The trails were laid with different colours, somewhat confusing for our hot and tired brains once en route.

It was a very pleasant undulating run along clear trails on the ridge for the majority of the 4.5km route. The front runners seemed to have sorted all the checks before the rest of the pack on the “long” caught them. Thanks ladies! The “out” brought us down to the Mentiri highway for about a km walk along the road.

Once the majority were out of the jungle, the Hashers began making their way to the On-On site at Speedy Gonzales’ house on Jalan Muara, Simpang 370, where we were entertained by the band of Les Cuatro Amigas (although I think I only counted three?). (Maybe there was one more hiding under the hats and moustaches.. ed)

The shout up was a quick one, with no new members, first time guests, or calls for Hashit. The JMs then announced the trial of a new policy regarding beverages  at the Ladies Hash.  Then it was time to tuck into the delicious meal of tortillas with beans and salad.

DATE: 29 APR 2014
SITE: DADAP
HARES: Zur/Never Wrong/Jacyn

Dadap along Jln Tutong, always fun with loads of bamboo forestry,
waterfalls and some hills. Unfortunately the hares for this week were
otherwise busy and unable to attend, so based on stories here we go:
Dadap hash signs were found and all hens found their way to the meetup
place just to enter the trail via the out, apparently a lot of old
paper and trash was laying around which send our hens on the wrong end
of the trail....first check came rather late.

A lovely trail with some hills and a bit of water with beautiful
waterfalls and bamboo forestry (see pictures on Facebook) made all
hens come out of the jungle in cheerful mood.

On it was to Never Wrongs house in Benkurong, were we all were for
last years founders day. Sticky Rice got onto a wrong trail and lost
her way out towards Kuala Lura border, one could wonder if that was
the wrong or the intended trail to follow. Luckily she was saved by
our own Trailblazer who left the hens without plates, making sure they
wouldn't start dinner without her, to safely bring back Sticky Rice.
Without the signin sheets present a research is to be made whether
Ryvita signed out her guest...to be continued next hash with a
possible HashIt!.

For this weeks run, the hares have stumbled upon a wrong trail and
took 3 hours to return to their car. A new trail was forced upon the
jungle but not to worry we won't be taking you all the way there.
A nice running trail coming up on Mentiri Pools, park safely! On-On to
be followed at Speedy Conzales's house, see you all there.

DATE: 22 APR 2014

HARES: LEGALLY BLONDE/TWINKLE TOES/SQUEAK
FRONT HORN: SPEEDY GONZALES   BACK HORN: SUE

A fine day for the ANZAC remembrance run as hashers gathered at the Sleazy Gardens site. With front horn held by Speedy Gonzalez and back horn taken up by Sue, hashers made their way out of the tall gates and up left on Tarmac heading towards the grassy path along the big drains. Screams and shouts were heard as hashers were treading over wet muddy paths, through tall grasses which eventually opened into green lush jungle. There were streams to cross as feet were submerged in cold muddy water.....squish, squelch on on. Soon the front runners came to the check point and it was the ever so agile Hash Hound who discovered the on on paper. Hashers moved onto rather hilly grounds alternating with steep and gentle downward slopes filled in some areas by slippery wet brown leaves, so hashers were able to challenge their co-ordination and balancing skills. In spite of that, luckily there were no injuries reported to joints or gluteus maximus, thus eliminating the need to have hashers being carried back for the rest of the run. After what seemed forever, the path suddenly continued to a long steep grassy slope before reaching the top onto clear grounds.

What a feeling of vastness combined with sensation of tightened gluteal muscles after the steep climb! Anyhow the path soon led onto tarmac again and the sounds of dogs barking alerted hashers that they were back in residential areas. A long walk on the tarmac ensued all the way to back to base as the sun was sinking into the horizons. All hashers made it back safely......

During the shout up, Hashers were then presented with a series of poems (by Twinkle Toes and Dr Doolittle) dedicated to those who had fought during the war, including those who never made it back......a one-minute silence was observed to honour the ANZAC day, followed by rendition of the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems performed by hashers from their respective nations.

Hashers then welcomed a new member, Jacyn who were first brought to the hash by her two sisters. Just when everyone thought that no hasher was to be bestowed with the Hashit on this special run, there was a huge gasp of disbelief when Judy , who was given a warm welcome as a returning hasher , was announced as the recipient for the Hashit for failing to sign out. After the shout up, the evening then proceeded to the ultimate indulgence into a beautiful array of barbecued burgers, fried onions, bread, cheese and salad, complemented by interesting desserts of pavlova, lamingtons and of course the Anzac biscuits.....(I think this was Zur's wish list!) Actual menu, compliments of the ANZAC team – roast leg of lamb, roast potatoes, pumpkin, kumera (sweet potatoes), peas with lots of gravy, coleslaw, green delicious salads followed by pavlova and Anzac biscuits.

Next week’s run is at the beautiful and spectacular Dadap waterfalls, and shout up will be at Never Wrong’s house at Bamboo Gardens. Hashers are invited to bring their swimming gear...if they so wish to languish glamourously in the exquisite pool....

On on.....!

A well known kiwi saying is "she'll be right". That seems appropriate as I was not expecting to do the run report and find my self army volunteered.

A popular kiwi institution is the committee. If you want to do something and you are not sure how to go about it, set up a committee. Therefore this run report will be written by committee. It was a new site at Subok for most of us. We parked our cars along the road with the more daring actually venturing into a large, somewhat rough looking paddock to park our vehicles. (Note again the Australasian influence on the words with the nomenclature "paddock".)

The entrance was flattish and led past a beautiful pool which aroused much admiration from passing hashers. Well done to Cheryl and Alison for finding first check and their call of "On On comma On paper"! It wasn't long before the climb commenced and it was up, up and up some more -- Definitely not for the faint of heart but on behalf of the gluteus maximus of each and every hasher there that day, I would like to say thank you hares. I am sure those muscles were visibly tighter the next day.

We meandered along ridges and just as one hasher was heard to anxiously ask, "Do you think it is an a to b?" we headed on down.

The final part of the run was very different also and it was most interesting to see Subok behind the scenes as we walked parallel to the main road. Thank you hares. A great and memorable run and 5 km on my phone. I prefer to use that measurement than my companions 4.8. km. Like fishing, hash results are always to be exaggerated in the retelling. Potties were given to Pee Wee for 250 runs and Hash Hound for 100 runs. Congratulations ladies!! Chit chat was welcomed back on a visit. Lovely dinner with an abundance of potatoes and other goodies. Delicious. Thanks again hares.

Thanks to the hares and host for a wonderful hash last week.

A celebration of happiness and thanks for the life of a fallen hasher Lee "Roadrunner" McGrail Jefford. A memorial hash enabling our members, past and present to reflect on Lee's life and untimely death here in Brunei and on the impact she had on others. Herself, I understand, having survived breast cancer and anorexia nervosa, she was an inspiration to others, encouraging a healthy lifestyle of good eating and good exercising, inspiring people around the jungle with her ever present little blue jay cloth in case of emergencies.

This was one well loved member of the community I decided, I can understand why her loss is so heavily grieved here.  So, fittingly, the ladies hash romped off into the jungle on Tuesday April 8th 2014 at 5:15pm sharp on spg 370/420 to exercise their little buns off, expand their lungs and flex their quads and then eat fish and chips for the 5th and last year (I was going to say without Lee but I think she is still here with us in the jungle).

One year from now a red dress run is planned on the date of this memorial run.

The run itself was beautiful, lush jungle, water crossing, hills, a bit of road, all a hasher could want. A good length, well marked and with craic and cheer along the way. On on on on on on on where ever you are H3.
This week......stretch your calves, the only way is up....baby.

RUN NO. 2380 DIPLO 1 APR 2014

RUN NO. 2380
DATE: 1 APR 2014
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: SQUEAK/TWINKLE TOES

Good old Upper Diplo with a twist. A trail we haven't seen for a long time; connecting Upper Diplo with SPG 378 Jln Subok. A nice long stretch of a trail with a few tricky checks making some of the hens crawl up a few more hills than necessary, never the less loads of fun and all that hashing is about.

Whilst all hens chatted away a monster hill came to sight and slowed us down On Up and Up and Up was shouted...than called...later wheezed....followed by the only sound left...panting.

Continued through the fine Brunei jungle we got welcomed by half naked men at the end of the hill/ trail who had spun a little wire to flatten some ladies (no names to be called as promised) and therefore be helpful lifting them up on their two feet.

The bus was awaiting the hens for a safe route back to Upper Diplo where the On-On continued.

The rule book came out again with presentation of Hashit rules followed by the usual tossing of water over two hash offences: spoiling hash beer and not signing out. Trailblazer and Mew Sum took it
as real Hashers whilst chased by our very own JM Wonder Women.

For this weeks run the trail is moderate, not to long, not to short....making everyone on time for the Memorial run's On-On. As your committee we have decided that this 5th anniversary of Roadrunners passing aka Memorial run will be the final one. To some of you this might come as a shock; the primary reason for this is that it's still upsetting one (maybe more) of our members too much and when time passes we feel with lesser members knowing Roadrunner Lee Jefford a time has come to move on. We want all our members to enjoy the hash and once a day is becoming too emotional we should remember that there are other ways to remember our lost ones.

Therefore we have decided to continue next years second Tuesday of April with Red Dress Run! A run known all over the hashes for raising charity to a good cause of choice. We believe this is a great way to memorize all we have lost, all that have left the hash and all that we can help with our
friendship and charity!

Please for this last Memorial of Roadrunner ask those that may know her and explain this 5th Memorial will be the last in the ladies hash. We assume we have enough chair but just in case bring a chair or sit on the concrete! Hope to see you all.

At Diplo

Look at Diplo, see the trees
Watch the forest in the breeze
Things won't be like this in a year or two
If building new embassies is the thing to do
Seize the night
Seize the day
Things won't always be this way

Going up to Diplo is like visiting an old friend – lovely and familiar in parts, but with plenty more to explore together. Last week’s trail was a combination of known and new, with lots of water crossings to keep the mudlarks amongst us happy. A road run at the end made the trail just under 5 km (I did see Hash Hound run up and down the road a bit more to try to make the 5k mark).

The food was worth a special mention – there’s something very satisfying about thick soup and homemade bread – followed by cake! Delicious – thanks Hares!

This week’s run is at Diplo again – another delightful mix of old and new (or ‘so old it has become new again!!’). Enjoy the site while it’s available – on our last recce we saw workers putting in some things that look very much like building markers….

Some insight into tonight’s run:

fresh air and jungle peaks
sky inked with pale blue
the green leaves, hashers cheerfully pass
the hens on reaching the top of the HILL
are heard muttering threats
red, rash and blue
all seem to have some kind of power
as the trail is almost at an end
and all seems to be reliant on just the next bend
hash is so intoxicating
that away from it you cannot be pulled

come along and join the fun

there’s something here for everyone.

RUN NO. 2378
DATE: 18 MAR 2014
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: HASH HOUND/CHI/PSYCHO/ADIBA/JANCES

Only the non-holidaymakers turned up for Tuesday’s hash at our favourite Hash sight, Diplo.

It was blooming hot even before we set off into the jungle!

Front Horn Jeannie led us off into the yucky swamp and then onto a well-worn path down to the valley of stinky mud and boot swallowing sand. Back Horn Squeak, able assisted by the lovely Spot found not only the first check but also the second. Well done Spot!

The trail then went up a gigantic mountain. This is where Alison and I found a hasher in distress and thought it our duty to short cut out and save her from goodness knows what! The rest of the hash went further into Diplo, along a bit, down a bit and then up a bit again, (according to Zur!)

On our way along Bill’s Ridge, on the lookout for beer cans, we found at least seven pictures of beer cans. Being decent sorts we only picked up cans for ourselves (he he!) and left the rest for the runners. Psycho later explained the hares had forgotten to plant the beers in the jungle and Hash Hound had run back in to complete the task.

At the shout up we thanked Psycho, Chihiro, Jances, Hash Hound and Adiba for a splendid run. We had a visitor, Julie, from England and Ika celebrated 50 runs. We welcomed a new member, Adiba. Katie (Black Beauty) also got her award for 450 runs.

Those who found the beers in the jungle were given a token for a real beer, thank you very much!

There was no entertainment, no hash shit. Next week’s run is back at Diplo. A bit of everything as usual, ups, downs, water, etc.

Then it was time for grub. The hens brought ‘a plate’, luckily with food on it!

There was a great mixture of sweet and savory items for our delight. So we sat as usual in the dark, eating, drinking and catching up with friends. On on.

RUN NO. 2337
SITE: LOWER DIPLO - ST PATRICKS
DATE: 11 MAR 2014
HARES: SATU LAGI/STICKY RICE

It was St Patricks run last week and it was set at lower diplo. I was excited. Planned not to go in jungle but help pick some rubbish and drop it off at the depot. Unfortunately, when I got there, a long line of cars parked on the side and hens mingling on the entrance to the usual on on site. Turns out the place is a whole lot filthier than we initially thought. So off the hens go into the lower diplo jungle. Few went walking up and down the roadside. Buttercup and I stayed at the board to pass on the update that we will be shouting upping at upper diplo.

As hens began to trickle uphill and to the tent, I, Psycho, happily distributed gold coins and nuggets at the end of my rainbow.

Unfortunately a few hens were still stuck in the jungle as it was getting somewhat dark. We found out much later that Simba have passed on to hash doggie heaven as she was suspected to have been bitten by a snake. Our condolences to Pee Wee and family.

Bells were worn by Ikea and we bid farewell to Ikea as she proceeds to a new adventure in the Middle East.

So the remainder of shout up went as normal …dot dot dot dot dot ……..

Tuesday night saw the ladies’ H3 in Lucky gardens again, gracing the jungle with their presence. We started with a little road running, then a little hill uping, then some lovely jungling. With dry conditions underfoot the going was firm to good despite the 31degrees on the thermometer. First check was a sneaker with three possible on on tracks. Satu Lagi eventually called the “on on on paper” and allegedly cut the track to the on paper (I was so far back in the pack I was blissfully unaware of these goings on at the time). A further check was laid through and after a beautiful romp past swampy bits, dangly bits, leafy bits and a little log hoppy type water crossing thingy we were out. Another wee road run (walked up the hill, get real girls) took us back to the abode of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchessette Leanna (now known as Buttercup).

New Member Theresa was welcomed and two naming performed. Leanna  as Buttercup and Ika as Bionic Bunny.(ED)

There were guests and hashit (Karen for signing in and out at the same time which is not very good as if she was late out, we would not have known she was still in the jungle!ED) but I missed it, doing my motherly duties of putting little boys to bed. Back in time for makan and a beverage I was delighted by Joseph’s wonderful nasi ayam kari, yummy mixed veggies and deep fried tofu salad. TQVM xxxxx

RUN NO. 2375
DATE: 25 FEB 2014
SITE: MERAGANG BEACH
HARES: DR DOOLITTLE/STICKY RICE/ZOE
FRONT HORN: HASH HOUND   BACK HORN: TRAILBLAZER

Tuesday’s ‘A to B’ run at Meragang beach, laid by Dr Doolittle, Sticky Rice and Zoe, was wet, fun and did I mention WET?! Up to our waists in water, the hashers scrambled over rocks and followed the footprints in the sand left by the speedy front runners, led by Hash Hound as the front horn (whistle – the actual horns were late to the hash so we improvised). Trailblazer picked up back horn and everyone found their way along the beach to the side of the highway where a bus was waiting to take the hashers back to the start so they could safely remove their sandy, water-logged hash shoes.

The evening began with welcoming a new member: Mona from Canada. After we welcomed her warmly to the hash, it was time to say farewell to another member. It was Kam Pai - Masayo’s final run and she had a grand total of 61 runs with the H3 since she was brought here by our lovely Psycho. Everyone came together to sing a lovely rendition of the “Goodbye” song and grant her a certificate to celebrate her time here at the hash. She will be missed and we hope she will come back to visit us soon

Then it was time for the FUN!! This run was to celebrate Brunei’s 30th National Day and what is a National Day without an impossibly hard quiz on everything Bruneian? There were a total of 12 questions on the quiz and the top score of 8 was achieved by only a handful of ladies who received prizes for their hard work.

During announcements, Possum bestowed “the wood” to our Hash Bar (Smurf). If anyone has one “in the wood” you now take a wooden peg so that anyone doing the rounds can see that you’re already set for your next refreshing beverage.

A night with the H3 isn’t complete without a call for the hash-shit and tonight there were two! Jessie and Dr Doolittle (although I can’t remember what their individual crimes were).

The hares, as per usual, put on a wonderful spread and the night went on with everyone eating and talking and having a good time. Next week’s run is at Lucky Gardens, starting from the Duchess of Cambridge and Le Anna’s house. See you all there!

OnOn!

The hens shot off at the horn with some new front runners in the making this week. Zoe and Paula, who I am sure would make excellent front horns and myself, Sticky Rice, who was just trying to be towards the front enough that I would get a little bit of makan before all you speedsters had eaten it all and gone home.

First check was quickly found by me me me me me me me m, it took me four and a half years to find a check.

Second check was found by....our new front horns Paula and Zoe, well done ladies. it was mostly a roady run and hilly with lots of chatty and jokey and a bit of sweaty on the way.

All back in record time to welcome our one guest, one new member and take part in a tip top dice and numbers game with absolutely no gambling or bikinis involved.
Thank you very much hares for a cool lion dance, a good luck salad tossing event, ang pow and scrummy food. It felt very Gong Xi Fa Chai at the H3.
Lots of ladies wore Chinese or red outfits to celebrate the year of the horse and we talked about next weeks run.

Important things about next weeks run:

1 Go to Meragang beach.
2 It's the last time you will ever get the chance to wear your swimsuit or bikini on H3 so do it if you dare:)
3 You WILL get your feet wet and possibly your knees.
4 You will not get eaten by a crocodile (probably).
5 There will be a little tiny bit of walking where you might need to use your hands as well as your feet.
6 Stay in front of the back horn or make sure you stay with a buddy.

RUN NO. 2373 KAPOK KANAN - 11FEB2014

RUN NO. 2373
DATE: 11 FEB 2014
SITE: KAPOK KANAN
HARES: DR DOOLITTLE/WONDER WOMAN

Hares are very late with the run report. Tsk tsk tsk. So I’m going to make something up. And if it’s not accurate please write in and email to pleasewriteyourrunreport@itsyourfault.com.bn

So we were in Kapok Kanan and with Twinkle Toes feeling poorly, I stepped in to help with hash flash, which in my rush to get to the site on time have left my biggish camera. Good thing too coz it was raining. So out comes trusty ole mobile phone camera. Let’s see what else did I forgot. Oh yes, I forgot the cable to my power bank to charge my phone as it was running low on battery. Dumbass.

So in the rain I walked and snapped and snapped and walked and getting spit on. So I opted to walk back to the tent and managed to get more photos of late comers who were more than happy to oblige into modeling for me.

Back at the tent we have crumpets for sale. If you were feeling romantic there were lovely heart shaped ones, but I chose the round ones as I like to draw happy faces on them. The recruiter was busy setting up shop, the beer was found hidden under a bush and the rain was pouring.

Let’s see what else do I remember. Oh yes, there was the shout up obviously. The hares did a marvelous job with the food and the decorations. Some people had heart shaped props on themselves and a handful dressed up for the occasion. Though it was mentioned wear something romantic may or may not be translated to wear something romantic for the bedroom which will be ripped off by some horny man. I’d say husband but horny man sounds better.

Roses!! There were roses in the jungle!! And for those who have found them were given a year’s supply of edible underwear, chocolate sauce and fluffy handcuffs. I'm joking. I have no idea what presents they got.

There were first time guests and the only person I remember is Cecelia whom hash hound was having trouble pronouncing her name and called her sesame street instead. I smell a hash handle there. Storyteller got a down down as a returning hasher. Gina got a down down as a returning hasher. And I have never met Gina until that day. Shame didn’t get to talk to her too.

So tomorrow’s run is at Spg 420 Jln Muara. Wear A cheong Sam , or wear red or wear gold. There will be gambling so bring money. And if there is no gambling, there should be.

And lets this be a lesson to all, that it is never a good idea to let psycho write the run report unless she’s laying the run as she will muck up so much details about the run and write a lot of interesting stuff just to amuse herself. Yes I am laughing as I write this.

ON ON!!! PSYCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

RUN NO. 2372 LUCKY GARDENS 4FEB2014 - WAITANGI

RUN NO. 2372
DATE: 4 FEB 2014
SITE: LUCKY GARDENS (WAITANGI)
HARES: SQUEAK/TWINKLE TOES/DOC/NANCY/PAULA
BACK HORN: SID

The run was started at Lucky Gardens and we all set off from the Hash House on the trail. The trail was laid by Squeak and Twinkle Toes and a few other NZ Committee members including Nancy , Duchess of Cambridge, Paula and The Recruiter. ( there may have been others) After a slow and steady ditch crossing we were off with a sharp up hill start to the jungle trail. There were two trails , one long and one short.  The front runners charged ahead and found the checks with Sarah P finding the first and Hash Hound finding the second.

The run was fab, up and down and round and round and through the jungle we went.  On arrival back to the Shout up we were all treated to vibrant purple Waitangi Day T-shirts courtesy of the NZ committee.  After the usual proceeds the feast was upon us and sausage rolls and fish and chips were some of the NZ delicacies to savor.  A great run and a fun shout up so congratulations to the NZ committee of which there are 13 this year!!! Go Kiwi’s!

Next weeks run is at Kapok Kanan and is a Valentines Day run. Feel free to dress up in you’re your most “romantic” attire and look for roses on the trail. Treats will await you if you find them. The hares say to stick to the trail as some traditional tracks have been blocked with fallen trees due to recent rainy conditions, and what may appear a short cut may actually leave you arriving late! On ON
