RUN NO. 2348 SALAMBIGAR WATERFALLS - 20AUG13

RUN NO. 2348
DATE: 20 AUG 2013
SITE: SALAMBIGAR WATERFALLS
HARES: TRAILBLAZER/TINA/CJ/SUE-ANNE

I can't remember when the last time I hashed.... somewhere in March I
think... Anyhoozy, Psycho got me to agree to fill up one of the runs
for August, hence I am here now, at Salambigar Waterfalls, early!
Almost threaten not to happen with a last minute 4pm meeting
scheduled. And that didn't happen! Yay! More or less the same goes
with Psycho, possibility she won't make to hash on time either. We
even figured out how to get info for Words if neither of us could make
it.

Checking with Psycho earlier where hash location was, I was trying to remember whether I hashed at said location before or not, I got there early! Record! Before 5! Yes! while waiting for the horn caught up with fellow hashers, banter banter banter, a few snippets of conversation..."Aaawww cute doggie!" "Onigiri eyeballs!" "Where have you been?" "I'm too lazy to go all the way..." "Had a really good summer..." "I got terrible sinus..." Weather was great though, cloudy and cool. I was eagerly looking around checking out new faces, still quite a few familiar ones, and generally just soaking up the atmosphere, gosh I'm actually here! Bwahahahahah!

Just before start of the run, announcement came up to make sure no valuables were left out in the car. Got some of us all paranoid and despite the horn going off and fellow hashers going into the jungle, the paranoia amongst us went back to our cars to triple make sure we didn't leave anything out in the open. I caught up with Squeak and Erin and teamed up with them, we figured we go half in half out. Since Psycho wasn't around, at least I got company. It was a good thing, right after the concrete steps and passed the watering holes, and up the hill, was when it became apparent the purpose as to why we were meant to be together. We have discovered... to get up a hill, we must bitch. That was the only way. That first hill just seemed to go on up forever. Mind you, I have not hashed in a while and it looked forever. Lots of 'sexy butts' mantras were being said, ok, that was me.

When we finally got to the top, and looked at the time, only 9 minutes had passed!! WTF?!?! 9 minute!?! Damn long 9 minutes of our lives.... More bitching ensured. Hehehe... After that was when the hash became a blur, I was constantly right behind Erin, I studied her legs and feet just so. Didn't look left didn't look right. Eyes were focused to watching her every step. Must keep up. Staring at Erin's feet, I just want to get out of here before it gets too dark. Passed Racheal, she got more motivation than I do. I is lazy cow at this stage, thinking when is a good time to turn back... Maybe 5 minutes more than turn back... Are you guys turning back...? Ok, lets see at the end of this trail...

After that, the only thing that occupied my mind was uh oh, I need a toilet @_@ ummm, aahhh, do I need to go now or maybe I can hold it in. I got this brilliant plan of hoping to sweat out most of the fluids, not that it worked since the weather was great! Very cooling. Yes, very good for the average person who's out in the jungle working up a sweat. Cool weather not so good with someone who is exercising bladder control. By then we figured we have already passed the halfway point... Oh I almost forgot, I think within 5 minutes of us entering the jungle we heard calls of 'Checking from here' ringing out. Of course by the time we got to the site everybody else have gone through already. Only now I can't remember if there was a second check too.

After a while I realised I was staring at Squeak's feet. And really I wasn't sure if I should be testing my bladder's prowess right now, but at the same time wasn't sure if we do stop and drop my pants someone would just pop right up. I had an internal toilet debate going on inside me. Eventually I pulled over and it was like "Come on, come on, hurry up, hurry up, expel, expel!" Relief! Then I had to run to catch up with them two, don't fancy the idea of being all alone. In the jungle. At this time of the month. Where 'hungry ghosts' are crawling about... Brrrr! Good thing I stuck with them two, turned out the trail was pretty familiar as they were here before and assured we're almost out. Yay!!! And after a gentle downward treck, we're right next to the highway! The walk back was pleasant thanks to the cool breeze and overhead clourds, not sure how long it was, haveing the cars pass by it didn't look that far. Saw Psycho and handed her the baton to continue of post hash happenings as I had to hash and dash. Until next week from me! Rozi

~Psycho says~
I got there late. Hate work for this. As I couldn’t see where the out paper was I opted to go in at the start. Up hill and bumped into norma, katy, Alison and storm. So kept on going until I hit first check. Walked a bit more, looked at the time and promptly walked back to sign out.

On On was at Tina’s with good food and good company. Kids hash is at diplo. First time guest who is a travelling hasher??? (My brain spaced out for a good 2 minutes). We love GM’s Dad!! Who loves us back by sending us damn good jokes. Mdm Sin contributed a joke that sent quite a few people going “I don’t get it, what is it??” And the reply was along the line of something about “you gotta be british/kiwi/aussie/insert nationality here kind-of-joke” SueAnne made a dutch something that was tasty (recipe in words). Pajama Run Next Week!! Nash Hash @ Serasa same weekend.

Hashit for Glamour!

Hares Twinkle Toes & Nikki

First time guests

Another day for Hash….

It seems that the number of hashers is diminishing day by day. I wonder why. Oh yes! It’s the holidays. Hari Raya is up and going and some ladies were busy sitting on their pajamas at their hometown. But on the bright side, there were glamorous ladies who would still sparkle on this run. As getting prep and ready for the run, the ladies looked enthusiastic to bask in the ambience of the jungle.

At first, we were walking at the street with the slight idea where the white paper would go. A pitiful sight unfolds before our eyes when we saw a monkey tied on the fence. The monkey looks fascinated by the sight of ladies but as I trudged more I saw a banana tree bearing bountiful fruits. Then, that explains it. Little steps after, voilĂ ! A small piece of wood was there to help us cross to reach the next big step – the jungle. Just the scenery of the jungle made the energy of the ladies level up. After several minutes of walking in the ups and downs of the jungle, the power of the ladies does not seem to falter. As we hiked, the admiration for Mother Earth was felt through our minds rather than the sweat flowing on our backs. The three checks were found by JM Ryvita.

The sound of the running cars were heard closer and closer. Finally, a down sloping way to the road and the next thing we know we have finished the run. Well done ladies!

Thank you hares for a marvellous run.

The shout up was a bit peaceful as many hashers were preoccupied. In that silent and warm night with mosquitoes biting around, the calls for hashits were called upon. Suddenly a ringing sound was heard and it was Glamour’s phone. The ladies enjoyed the food which was prepared by one another. All the food was scrumptious and these surely contributed to my good and soundly sleep.

RUN NO. 2346 KAPOK KANAN 6 AUG 2013

RUN NO. 2346

Great views from the top....

DATE: 7th August 2013
FRONT HORN: Mrs Pingu
BACK HORN: Trailblazer
FIRST TIME GUEST: Hannah from UK

The smallest group of hens gathered around on a fine afternoon after a deluge earlier in the afternoon.

No sign of the tent… but we did ask Readymix to order one.

Cheryl was very pleased to hand over the running of the hash to Mrs Pingu who had just returned from her holidays keen and eager and was promptly given the front horn. Warning of stingy things at the start was relayed, shortish run with two checks was received from the hares.

We set off with Mrs Pingu running up the stairs, and then Hot Lips with niece Hannah just fresh from her holidays as well enthusiastically went past the climbers.

Trailblazer was not far behind and as warned the hornets were out and Hannah got a couple of sting.  She was not sure what had hit her as she felt great pain, but Trailblazer urged her to run on quickly but not before she spotted a small snake looking for refuge upon hearing the thundering footsteps of the hashers.

Soon we could hear Mrs Pingu calling “checking” and soon the horn was tooting indicating the on paper.  So keen was Mrs Pingu that she ran on and found 2nd check, before the rest of the pack had caught up.

We stopped for a breather at the top taking in the great views and then it was downhill all the way. On the out we say Jenni from the block and Readymix coming the opposite direction and advising that Misayo had been stung by hornets, and some hens had turned back to  administer some first aid.

We were soon back at the tent, and food to share started to arrive … yummy dips, mixed cocktail nuts were shared as we waited for the rest of the hens to get back.  Thank you ladies for a great spread.. Ika brought bakso (an Indonesian specialty), Glamour brought some of her homemade goodies, yummy desserts ..

First time guest Hannah was welcomed, and Possum updated the hens about the collection for Linggis grandson David.

With the summer holidays coming to a close, we look forward to more ladies returning for the runs as the last few weeks has seen only a turn out of about 20. As usual few set around for a while but the evening drew to an early close as the rain stayed away for another cool evening.

Run report by volunteer Trailblazer.. On on

Don’t forget your chairs for this weeks run at Twinkle Toes and a plate to share after the run.

RUN NO. 2344 SALAMBIGAR FALLS 23 JUL 13

RUN NO. 2344
SITE: SALAMBIGAR FALLS
DATE: 23 JUL 2013
HARES: Wonder Woman/Masayo/Ika
FRONT HORN: Duchess of Cambridge  BACK HORN: Twinkle Toes

Hares: Masayo/Wonder Woman/Ika

Well where was everyone! I believe 21 people signed in and out but if that included the Hares, the walkers to the waterfall and those busy sorting out drinks, ice and the like there was only about 11 of us who set off last Tuesday afternoon, sorry and 2 dogs.
Holidays that's what it must be and that was my excuse for not wanting to do more than the short run indicated on the words. Three weeks of English sunshine, family catch ups and hundreds of bowls of strawberries, raspberries and the like.... a non-typical English holiday!!! had set me to thinking a long run would see me in RIPAS and not as a member of staff. So when I arrived at the hash trying to think of plausible reasons why this weeks words would only be about the short run, I was greatly pleased to hear several other hashers complaining of ailments or such for opting for the short run. Both horns, Twinkle Toes and the Duchess of Cambridge, opting for the short run made it very clear with such a small body of runners we had best keep to the one run and keep safely together for the purpose of checking etc. A great shame for the hares and I'm sure we all thank them for their hard work rec-cing, cutting and laying the run especially in the face of the construction or rather destruction machines, apologies from all of us.
Well the run started promptly at 5.15pm as the runners/walkers/crawlers and all traversed the opposite edge of the storm drain to enter at a newly cut trail straight up the hill. There was certainly some scrambling going on on this in-trail and I for one wished I had the 4 leg drive of Twinkle Toes' pooch. The top of the scramble was seen and we got back on to a familiar trail from GI Jane's epic A to B from Sungai Akar. Disturbing comments were made as we meandered along ups and downs of the ridge as we could see the destruction to the right. Good running trails ahead if only our little group could raise the speed but it's not a race so we caught up on gossip and kept plodding on.
Breaking out of the jungle ridge we met the Duchess of Cambridge being a committed horn by laying paper through first check which we believe was found by Squeak, was there some paper trail crossing and a little short cutting going on in front of us??? Well we were very good and followed the trail on-to a slight rise off the newly created mud track and on up again only to turn left and drop back on to the afore mentioned construction trail, we know what you front runners probably did!!!!
We then headed over the slightly muddy trail back up into the jungle only to be confronted with a sharp right down back towards the muddy trail, we think ah ha! lets call and see where are fellow hasher dulcet calls come from. Thank you whoever responded as we could hear calls ahead and stayed on that ridge to save our legs and lungs for later hills. Honest we didn't short cut, much!
Up and down, up and down was the order for the rest of the run as we headed hopefully back along the link road and out. Trails became familiar again as we turned and descended off the ridge to the very unstable looking log crossing. Rachel was the braver of our group as she strutted across the log but me for one thought better of it and was seen scrambling around in the stream below before attacking the return up to the ridge. At which point I have no idea who found second check or if there was a third or more or who found them sorry, pat yourselves on the back if you did as a job well done. We the followers had no problem following your well laid through checks.
We also scrambled up the next hill to meet Sarah coming in backwards, her message of "there is light at the end of the tunnel" was a greatly appreciated and a boost to our efforts, although after at least another two hills which we had to assault I for one was wondering whether she'd been playing us along, but no that sign said it all- short run this way. Thank you hares I had had enough and was very grateful to see the sight of the big drop back down to the waterfalls and out.
A lovely if not hilly area being completely spoilt for what??? Any ideas? Possible one of the last runs there which was very well laid and organised, thank you hares for a job well done.
I missed the On-On but was informed by my co-hare and stand-in JM (after she eventually managed to get in at the on-on- tricky gates I hear), that there was no guests, no new members, no entertainment, no hashit but two virgin hares - excellent, a fantastic start to your hash laying, there was filled rolls a much loved La-dies hash on-on delight, thank you again hares and all in all an-other successful and enjoyable Ladies Hash Tuesday. Here's hoping our run goes as well. This weeks run is a variation on the usual Diplo run, there are hills, valleys, water crossings and checks but with the addition of a long time not used trail just to keep you on your toes at checks - well that's the idea! PLEASE NOTE : there is alot of old paper in this site, we have tried to clear as much as possible but you still need to make sure you only follow new PINK paper (first check will be yellow as normal) ON-ON

Karlene on front horn lead the way into the jungle and straight down a slippery hill. We weaved our way in and out of trees, up and down hills, jumped over streams and balanced on logs. Just what we expect of a jungle run in Diplo!! (Although one hen was heard to be asking “Do you think it will be hilly?”) At first check, we scattered in different directions until Trail blazer and Duchess of Cambridge spotted the trail and called “on paper”. More ups and down and lots more water and mud to splash through. My dogs Jess and Zulu are particularly fond of water so jumped in and swam around at every opportunity. They even lead me off trail once just because they spotted a stream they thought we should be crossing.

Second and third check was found by Jenny on the block. Duchess of Cambridge was back horn and rounded up the plodding walkie talkies to ensure we all made it out safely. After one and a half hours of wandering round the Diplo jungle, we were glad to see the lights of the tent with the cold 100+ and ads waiting,

Rave brought her sister Panina as a first time guest and was given the usually welcome from Dizzy. The July birthdays were celebrated and Trail blazer told a joke. Yummy chilli was served – thanks hares. I was in a rush to leave (sorry husband was moaning of a bad back – but ok now) so butted in to tell you about the run Masayo, Ika and I are laying in Salambigar Falls. This could be one of the last times we can do it here as they have bulldozed a rather large road straight across the trail we reccied. We are doing two runs - a short one about 3 km and a longer one at 5 km. Look out for the sign to show you where the trail spilt off.

Oh Another run in Kapok Kanan

The last one laid by one of fame

In the h3 history she will go

Our one and only GI Jane

Oh Kapok Kanan with hills so high

And thorns around somewhere

With new cement steps and a public toilet

Have anyone yet peed there?

Oh GI Jane we will so miss you

Your costumes always in a pair

With Sid in sequins and tights

And colourful wigs for hair

Oh the run was good and tricky

On the hills we almost want to die

I can’t remember who found them checks

Coz I was drinking early and feeling quite high

The shout up was quick

We welcomed new friends

Sunny needs a new amah

If you know of one to lend a hand

Some announcements we made

I can’t remember them obviously

Tho I did remember we sang

With some missing words .. Goodbyeee

So a quick run report

Apologies it is so late

My computer is quite old

And its programs out of date

Oh GI Jane how much we will miss you

High hills you take us and valleys so low

However for next weeks run

Here’s a hint you might hate us in Diplo

Au revoir GI Jane

May there be a hash where you’re going

Remember the hash motto

Be in sun, rain, storm or snowing

RUN NO. 2341 LAMBAK KIRI 2 JUL 13

RUN NO. 2341
DATE: 2 JUL 2013
SITE: COASTAL HIGHWAY, LAMBAK KIRII
HARES: HANA/MOTHER NURTURE/HILLARY
FRONT HORN: WONDER WOMAN   BACK HORN: GI Jane

The run started off with a shock to the system and a vertical ascent. Chests heaving we reached the top. There was only time to briefly draw breath and we set off again in a vain attempt to touch the skyline. From there it was a case of through the bracken until the paper stopped. Second check was called. It was found along a dry river bed and the hash was again on the move. A lot more up eventuated and at the very top, as we paused for breath, a check was called. It was found before too long. A back check for variety, and the hash moved on at a steady pace until a thinking hasher was heard to say, "Hey I've been here before". After that it was just a case of down, down, down and out.

There was a bit of a wait at the out as some hashers had enjoyed everything so much they had decided to do another circuit. In fact this was Cheryl's first time in hash boots in several months and this may have been her reason for attempting a second circumnavigation of the route. Possum was flashing away as the hens came out.

It was a most enjoyable run, and it is important that we thank the Ripas team for their cardiovascular workout.

The Shout Up was a noisier than usual affair with locals attempting to join in through their exceedingly effective loud speaker system. Items of particular note. There were two first time guests, Kay and Aida. Jasmine flew in from Australia for her annual hash. Peahen received her 450 run and Hana received her 50 pottie and was named the Cheeky Check and Annabel was named Bracken Bard. A scandinavian baby gift was also presented. We wish you all the very best.

We said a sad farewell to two hashers. Mother Nurture is heading to Bristol, England and Cheeky Check will be going to Harrogate in Yorkshire. At this point Dizzy would have given a big cheer if she had not been travelling in Kalimantan. No calls for the hash hit, we must wait until next week. I hear that there may be a candidate already.

RUN NO. 2340
SITE: SPG 355 KG TUNGKU
DATE: 25 JUN 2013
HARES: MIGHTY MAPLE/ANNABEL/SATU LAGI

The starting themes to the Canada run this week were a beautiful new run location and new parts of the jungle to explore.

There was oodles of mud, water and hills with some very muddy socks and trainers by the end of the evening. It was worth it as we were treated to the most beautiful view across the Borneo jungle.
Stunning vines, golden sandy river beds and lovely local picture plants along the way were all laid out for us which made the hills feel less steep. With two outs, one long and one not so long we all ended up with some good exercise and more wonderful memories of the jungle with all its wild beauty. Mother Nurture wore the bells all round the jungle as this was her last hash. Ikea found the first and second checks, one of which was unusual and tricky the other very muddy. Mrs Pingu found the 3rd check. Well done ladies!

JM in sync with theme
Hares

The on-on was coloured red and white to match the Canadian day theme with the tent decorated in billowing maple flags.

We welcomed 4 first time guests, who are all visiting Brunei by yacht. We also said a very sad farewell to Mighty Maple, whom will be mightily missed.
We were also blessed by Satu Lagi donating a yummy tipple of rum and Mighty Maple setting a Canadian themed quiz for our entertainment. We all received lucky numbers and won Canadian goodies!

Poor Trail Blazer received the hash shit for her phone going off but she also received a cooling beverage to celebrate the arrival of another grandchild. Congratulations!

Thank you so much Mighty Maple, Annabel and Satu Lagi.

RUN NO. 2339 SPG420 JLN MUARA KG SG TILONG 18JUN 2013

RUN NO. 2339 ---- live run -----
DATE: 18 JUN 2013
SITE: SPG 420 JLN MUARA, KG SG TILONG
HARES: Tina/Hashhound/Speedy Gonzales
FRONT HORN:  Ryvita  BACK HORN: Tina

Run 2339 was at 420 Jalan Muara, nice warm day for a run.

It was a live run today, so we had to chase the Hares; Hash Hound, and Speedy Gonzales. There are no checks on this run, and the Hares led the pack with a 2min head start. The third hare Tina did the back sweep. The Women's hash has not done a live run for two years, so we were all pretty stoked to give it a try. Leaders of the pack; Ryvita and Mrs Pingu took off. Often times they could stop the Hares but never quite caught up, arriving 3mins behind the Hares.

Everybody made it back in for the On On, great run, a little water, a little hills and some nice flat land to allow those who wished the opportunity to run.

We had two new visitors tonight, Vanessa who has been studying in the UK and is now her looking for work, the other was Zoe from the UK via New Zealand and has been in the country for 4months. We also had a returning member Jenny who is the daughter of Hot Lips. So welcome to the all.

We than had some celebrations Mother Nurture and Duchess of Cambridge both celebrating their 50th run and Tina who now has completed 350 runs. Way to go girls.

On a sad note we said goodbye to Hashwit who is moving on, she has completed 78 runs. She brings her humor to every Hash and will be missed but all of us. So good luck Hashwit, enjoy your up coming travels. Prior to her departure she treated us to her jokes, and a Poem "Jungle Love".
Another visit last night, was Pee Wee she brought her daughter to her first On On. Start them young, maybe we will start seeing her at Family Hash. The women had a lovely time visiting with Genieve, a great addition to the Hash Family.

Announcements,
1.  Satu Lagi reminded us of the Highland games this week Saturday in Panaga,
2. On the 29th of June in Kota Batu "the Night at the Races".
3. On the board there is a list if you consider yourself a "Brit" put your name on it help with an upcoming Hash.
4. Photo contest, submit your photos to Hash words. It could be picked to be in the Hash Calendar.
5. HashCash has asked that you submit your fees for the second half of the Hash year. The amount is $120.00 due before the 1st of July. Next week, the hash list will be posted with the individuals highlighted that pays dues every 6 months.
6. Well the Founder's Day theme has been announced. The theme is "at the Circus".

Next weeks Hash is the Canada Day theme. It will red and white for the On On. On a personal note I want to say thank you, for letting me be apart of this fantastic group of Women. I will miss my weekly hike through the jungle, and the friendships that have been created. I look forward to taking my experience in to the mountains of Colorado and the Denver Hash program.

View of River at onon

As work had kept me late once more I arrived late at the hash site, however not too late to go in. Slipping and sliding, pulling myself up on the ropes one makes it finally huffing and puffing to the top of the hill just to see some beautiful trails wondering past steep cliffs and lots of mud to slight ON-ON-ON.

Once in for a while we, as I were to carpool it was my mistake for bringing other hashers late to the side my apologies, however as I said when in for a while we stumbled upon our hash ladies who made their way back along the trail. Just to find shortly after a sign stating if you were here past 5.45pm to return....as front runners we looked upon our watches and decided 5.53pm was close enough to continue (something you should never do as a fellow hen would have to go in to find you if you were too late and surely with that in mind we tried to rush ourselves a bit).

Past the wall, slip slide and roll all the way down must have made up some time so we were good. A few seconds were taken to look at the beautiful waterfall displayed in front of us, to return to the trail and ON we went. In the mean time we had past some of our dear ladies hashers so we weren't alone.
Coming in late I had no idea where the checks were nor who had found them, but well done ladies for laying the trail through so we could find our way back out and down the steep hill right before it got dark!

Thanks front horn Mrs Pinggu and back horn GI Jane for driving the pack back in safety.
After a little drive we were welcomed in Dizzies paradise where songs were sung, hashit was splashed and a wonderful Pakistani dish was presented to us. Not forgetting the amazing chocolate cakes to top off an other wonderful hash evening! Thanks Dizzie and Velma for a great night!

RUN NO. 2337 SPG 1046 JLN MUARA- 4 JUN 2013

RUN NO. 2337
DATE: 4 JUNE 2013
SITE: SPG 1046 JLN MUARA, KG SALAMBIGAR
HARES: IKEA/RYVITA

This week's Swedish Run was eagerly anticipated by those who love meatballs and IKEA, and obviously a trek in the jungle!! We turned up to Jalan Muara, some of us driving through rain but luckily it was dry when we got there.

As 5.15 approached it saw a few stragglers making their way to the start point, covered up in anticipation of the promised mozzies!! So with the smell of OFF! in our nostrils we headed off along Jalan Muara and right into what appeared to be a private drive! Having skirted around the edge along a stream we entered the quite different but unexpectedly lovely old orchards where we ran along paths around and up towards the jungle. Those at the front had a moment of confusion where the paper appeared to go left but was then found up ahead so we decided to continue up ahead expecting the other paper to be the out. (That was actually the first check, but hey, mistakes happen!)

On reaching the top of a gentle rise we were all treated to a lovely stretch of water where some took the chance to photograph the scene.

On on we went and through the jungle finding the 2nd and 3rd checks without much bother and dodging the mozzies as we went. A lovely variety with paths, orchards, water and jungle! Although we missed the first check we all enjoyed this slightly easier wander through an area which we may never have discovered if it wasn't for the hash, that's why we love it, expect the unexpected!!

The On On was at IKEA's house where whilst having refreshment we stretched our brains to find any tiny amount of Swedish knowledge we had to complete a quiz all about the land of IKEA! Turns out we don't know much and who knew that Dynamite was invented in Sweden!!! Nicole who was a returning hasher for the first time in a long time apparently knows the most and managed 11 out of 14 in the quiz and hared her winnings of Dime bars amongst us.

It was great to see Hares Ryvita and Ikea dressed in their Swedish clothes and they were so carried away by the occasion that they nearly forgot the presence of their friend and first-time hasher Kym, which led to the Hashit being hsared between them and Satu Lagi whose brief to her guest was sabotaged!!!

After singing to our June birthday girls (Velma, Dizzy & Sue) we were reminded of Hash rules in the jungle and the necessary shouts. Mother Nurture againh enticed us all with her Hash lights job with cute light bulb torches and the job was gratefully taken on by Karlene.

We were then treated to some excellent Swedish fare, meatballs and fab gravy and sauce with scrummy potatoes, topped off with chocolate!! What more could you ask for? Than you ladies!!!

RUN NO. 2336 MATA-MATA 21 MAY 2013

RUN NO. 2336
DATE: 21 MAY 2013
SITE: MATA MATA
HARES: SUE/POSSUM

Being that this weeks run was at Mata Mata I knew I had to get going to get there in time.
It's a long way from Tanah Jambu.

Before we could head off on our run we spent an exiting couple of minutes with hashers looking here,
there and everywhere for the on-paper as we couldn't find it anywhere.

Then all of a sudden we see Glamour and think "aha that's where we should be looking"
but Glamour was on the blue Hetro paper....... In the end Cheryl phoned Possum and we were finally off and on our way, slightly later than the normal 1715.

We ran and ran and ran and it seemed forever before first check, but we found the on pretty quickly
and continue on. The jungle trails were as good as they always are in this area and mixing it up with the fire trails there was no stopping the front runners.

All the checks were found with no drama but the trails just seemed to go on and on,
and i was feeling a bit woozy.

All of a sudden we reach the mark of the two runs splitting and so we commit to continue running another for another 3.7 km..............really??? Hmmm, half way down the hill Speedy Gonzales and myself have a re-think and decide to turn back to Possums waiting bus with refreshments.
Good decision!!!!!! And so thought most of the hens bar a fair few brave ladies who soldiered on and ran back to the tent - well done!!!

We were greeted with Sue's Special Punch which always tastes SO GOOD!
(And you can make it yourself  as it's in the "Hash Nosh" 2012.)

It was nice to see Bunny Girl, Legally Blonde and Annabel back and we also welcomed two new guests; Lara from Canada and Rhiannon from Scotland. Hash Whit entertained us on her normal excellent form and will sadly be missed when she leaves this summer. Mother Nurture is also leaving us shortly and pleaded for someone to please take over her "light duties".

IKEA was enjoying herself in Bali so I kept it short and sweet so that we all could enjoy Sue's and Possums lovely Chili with corn on the cob and salad on the side - Yummy!!!!
Thank you ladies!

Next weeks run is a run that everyone can do.
It's not short, it's not long it's just an average run in the Orchard!
Enjoy!!

RUN NO. 2335 SPG 492-28 JLN MUARA KG SG HANCHING - 21 MAY 2013

RUN NO. 2335
DATE: 21MAY 2013
SITE: SPG 492-28 JLN MUARA, KG SG HANCHING
HARES: Duchess of Cambridge/Le-Anna
FRONT HORN: RYVITA
BACK HORN: HASH WIT

As I was leaving from Mata Mata it was raining and the sound of distant thunder didn’t bode well for a dry hash. But of course that means nothing in Brunei – localised rain can mean you drive from perfectly dry, through a patch of 200 metres where it is absolutely hosing down, to instant dry again. It was actually a lovely dry evening in Sungai Hancing. By the time I had walked to the tent to sign in, I had heard the words ‘lollipop’ and ‘long’ several times and this was soon backed up with a notice attached to the sign in board saying ‘1 ¾ hours for middle walkers, make sure you take a torch’. Not a good start for me, after a few days of stomach cramps and not eating much – I was just psyched up enough to push myself around a normal run for the sake of the words, but a long run – forget it! The ever faithful Trailblazer overheard me saying so and kindly offered to fill in the middle bits for me. A leisurely amble with Alison sounded much better.

We set off through some new housing and soon went past the more familiar Simpang where Cheryl and Magic Roundabout used to live. The paper led us into the jungle and up a decent sized hill (for someone with not a lot of energy to spare anyway). The trail headed right at the top of the hill and after a short way, the sounds of ‘checking from here’ could be heard. We reached the y of the lollipop, with the ‘in’ sign pointing left and down into the valley, and so to first check. We chose to walk up the ‘out’ trail for a bit and then turned around, taking in the sights of some new and very white Mediterranean style houses along the way. We were greeted with a lovely rainbow as we arrived back at the on-on site.

The trail through the jungle was very pleasant and the usual Lucky Garden atmosphere. Some of the new ones were tricked into thinking they were out when we popped on to the fence line of the National Security Centre along Salambigar Link. It was not to be, we were soon back in the jungle, but before long on to the lolly pop.

All the hens were safely out just on dark and the shout up began, minus JM Ryvita, who was needed elsewhere. The newly crowned Wonder Woman took the hares away. Two first time guests, Julie from NZ and Tuti from Indonesia were welcomed. Two new members, Cath and Rave were also welcomed into our hash family. Dr Zur looked very pleased with herself as she celebrated her 50th run and remembered her challenging introductory run at Kota Batu.

Dizzy offered to be ice queen next week, Sticky Rice gave some notices and Alice in Wonderland still wants more pencils for her Cambodia trip. JM Ikea invited us all to join her new and secure hash facebook and admitted to being a numbers geek as she reeled off all sorts of statistics for our first half year. Hash wit gave us a quick bit of wit about her good driving and Karlene owned up to needing a refreshing bit of cold water thrown on her by Dizzy, because she failed to sign out. Delicious Afghani food was enjoyed by all – spicy but lovely – thank you hares and Smurf who celebrated her birthday which was the day before.

Next week’s run is in Possum’s words, ‘not a Possum run.’ There will be a medium and a long run. The medium run took us 45 minutes walking at walky talky pace through a nice jungle trail with another 20 minutes of open track to finish. The long run adds on approximately another 3.7 km of easy to run on, open track, which front runners should enjoy, but is only meant for those who can run out.

RUN NO. 2334 - TUNGKU BEACH - 14 MAY 2013

RUN NO. 2334
DATE: 14 MAY 2013 --- MID YEAR COMMITTEE RUN -- GLOW IN THE DARK RUN
SITE: TUNGKU BEACH
HARES: Hash Hound/Mother Nurture

Greetings fellow Hashettes.  Last Tuesday saw us follow the signs off the coast road and down onto the sands of Tungku Beach for our Glow in the Dark Mid Year Hash. After a slight hiccup when we had to drive over to the starting spot on the eastern side of the beach,  due to the tent having been erected in the wrong place I believe, enthusiastic Hens milled around eagerly awaiting the signal to flap their wings.  Sure enough, 5.15pm saw the departure of the flock off along the scenic beach hash trail.  With ladies moving at their desired speed, and many stopping
Glorious sunset

Ika getting the hashit from Dizzy

Receipients of hash handles........
to snap pics of idyllic scenery and action poses, we wended our ways hither and thither until we reached the midway point.  To our delight, we were greeted by a friendly sea nymph who offered us a free cool beverage which of course being polite, we could hardly refuse.  So joy of joys a hash that provided a beautiful walk or longer run, a spectacular sunset, fine weather, an unusual lack of hills and a drink to keep us going.

On our return the tent was abustle with Hens clucking over the range of scrumdidlyumptious food that was making the tables groan as well as our lovely new t-shirt (many thanks to our Hares) with its slogan on the back proclaiming that we ‘don’t sweat, we sparkle’ – never a truer word was spoken. So although we were licking our lips and hushing our tummies due to the aromas wafting from the table, we quietened down to enjoy the shoutup.  We had if I recall correctly a first time guest and a new member welcomed but the highlight of the night was surely the bestowing of names upon four illustrious Hens. Those added to the illustrious roll of Named Hashers were Wonder Woman (Nicki TC), Twinkletoes (Erin), Mother Nurture (Clare) and Mighty Maple (Kim). After this excitement and once the rest of the formalities were concluded (wasn’t there a hashittable sinner in there somewhere?) - Ika for not educating her guest on ethics of hashing - Ed, all lined up to choose from the tempting array of food. So there we sat in the dark as the evening wore on, everyone a-glowing, a-sparkling and a-glittering (including some strategically placed circles on various parts of the anatomy) feeling full and content, enjoying the bonds of friendship once again until with heavy sighs we packed our chairs and bumped slowly up the track towards our homes.
