What good news to hear of a run being done at Spg 564, Subok!! I havent been to a run from there for a long long time. I remember the lovely runs from way back and I wasnt disappointed. The run had a bit of everything we hashers like. Good trails with some hills and a little water. The trails were really pretty and the cunning checks kept us all together. All in all a great run. Well done. It couldnt have been easy with all the changes going on in the area.
The on on at Mrs Pingus was a great success and we had a first time hasher - Debra who thoroughly enjoyed herself and hopefully will be back! Mrs Pingu celebrated her 200th run and we were all so nice that we didnt give the has shit to anyone that night. The Laksa after was EXCELLENT too. Thank you Mrs Pingu and Lauren. The on on was ended by the news that the new moon had been sighted and Hari Raya was upon us. On that note SELAMAT HARI RAYA to all.
NEXT RUN: SUBOK 67 Tonights run is a typical Subok run. It's so pretty in there at the moment so dont miss the birds, pitcher plants and orchids we saw whilst laying the run. Should be about 45 mins for the runners and an hour for the walkie talkies. Enjoy! On On

So when my Mum tells me that we're doing the hash, I'm not gonna lie...I'm in it purely for the me me meeees and the beer banter at the end. That said, I absolutely loved this weeks run. Short and sweet but cross-jungled and bugged enough to make me feel like I've suffered enough to warrant said beer, and enough of a story for me to bring to my Fleet Street work colleagues that I braved the Borneo rainforest, that we went off trail following paper through mud, gunk, and logs that disintegrate when you step on them, emitting Pumba-from-the-Lion-King-worthy woodlice and other multi-legged 'things'. I'm a bit of a wuss, can you tell? I'm told there we two checks but by the time we got there, some keen hares had already on onnnnnnned and let us in their wake to follow the route back to the waterhole of paradise lost...a marquee with a couple of ice boxes. Before the run had even started, climbing that hill to the start point was a pretty grueling workout, especially when *ahem* you're a little late and have to park at the bottom. All in all an enjoyable trek that made me finally feel like I was on holiday in Borneo, and as much as I'll moan about being dragged from a plane through the jungle without so much as the opportunity to climatise...let's be honest ladies, although it's part of your weekly routines, from the other side of the coin, it's pretty damn cool. Many thanks to Trailblazer, On on!
'down in the jungle, where nobody goes,
there's a bunch of hen house harriers following their nose,
with a me me me here and a on on on there,
they're havin' fun just following the hare
Boogie woogie oogie'
NEXT RUN: Spg 564 Subok - An hour for walkie talkies. Once you get into the jungle it is very jungly n overgrown, so keep on paper, enjoy the ups and downs and the water features. Please bring your own chairs.

Having had a busy week, not to mention day, and running late, headed off towards Kapok Kanan and wondering whether I needed to top up my petrol as the puasa hours at the pumps albeit we are already half way thru Ramadan has not sunk into my routine. Anyway pressed on and on the way passed Madmarg and Toni running—my, all the way from Sg Tilong??
The run had started when I got there, so a quick dash to the sign in board and then back down the road to catch up with the bunch. The “in-trail” was through the orchards although at this time, no fruits were in season so no pungent smell to guide the nose. As we headed towards the stream bed and rocks, Smurf and Madam Sin were turning around to go in via the out-trail as they reckoned it would be easier.
We followed the trail almost all the way along the stream, luckily no rain and rather dry surroundings, and the pack moved on quickly up, up and up with some assistance on the way of ropes which seem to be a permanent fixture at the site.
New hens were wondering how long the “up” was going to be and I encouraged them
along saying that there is only one way up this side of Serasa hill, and once up the ridge will be on the way down!
First check took a while to find being a back check with Pee-Wee putting her hashing skills to work. 2nd check was found by guess who—Pee Wee again, and 3rd by a keen Tango who has just come back from her summer holidays.
We were treated as usual by magnificent sights of Serasa, the Kodak moments sites being a bit overgrown and after a brief stop, we were winding our way down again. Front runners were out within an hour and an excellent makan of roti and dhal provided by the hares.
Some puppies were on site and one has found a home since.

RUN NO. 2242

SITE: DIPLO
HARES: ALISON/CHERYL/SUE
FRONT HORN: Magic Roundabout
The sky looked threatening over the Diplo site as we arrived but the rained held off for the whole run and the shout up. There were some hens beginning to trickle back from holidays and others looking forward to the start of theirs in a couple of week’s time. We chatted as we walked in along Bill’s ridge following the yellow paper. Part way along the ridge blue paper to the right showed the way along the short route, which most people decided not to go along.
However when we reached the point where the yellow paper when down a steep path to the left 4 hens decided to walk back and tackle to shorter run! Down we went for a while and then along and down again to a small stream with some great muddy patches along the banks. Of course we then had a nice long up to enjoy before arriving on a ridge where we turned left to reach the area where, in some cases, hens were looking for the paper at the check. I went back but of course it was down and to the right. What a steep and challenging slope it was (not sure who found it) Trailblazer with Alice in Wonderland - Ed., which lead us back onto Bill’s ridge. We wound along for a while and then took the path to the left which went down to the creek. We now had a section of water side paths to follow and no more steep climbs until we came to the out trail. Many thanks to the hares for a great run.
At the shout up we welcomed 3 first time guests Jane (Oz), Jackie (NZ) and Marilyn (NZ). All are teachers. Marilyn had a special mention for having found the hash after only being in Brunei for 3 weeks. Fertile Myrtle received her award for doing 150 runs, well done. Alice in Wonderland told a joke that had been provided by Jeni from the block. Yann announced that she needs co hares to help her lay the run in 2 weeks time and more hens were asked to volunteer for the hareline for August and September. The hashit this week was a special rollover event. Erin had left her 1st time guest to walk unsupervised in the jungle and there is photographic evidence to prove it. The hash will remember. Quote of the evening “I know I am mouthy and bolshie” but we still love you Smurf! Many thanks to the hares for the lovely rolls and the gluten free option.

DATE: 2 AUGUST 2011
SITE; LUCKY GARDENS
HARES: MADMARG/ERIN/KATHRYN
Last week’s hash was at Lucky Gardens but not at our usual site. This time we set off from Erin’s place, which used to be known as ‘The Hash House’.
Lucky Gardens is one of my favourite sites and hopefully we can use it for many more hashes to come. We seem to have fewer and fewer sites to choose from when setting a hash!
I haven’t been up to the ridge from that ‘horrible hill’ for a long time. I had nearly forgotten how long it is. Alison, Sue and I dragged ourselves up and up, with stiff muscles from hashing earlier in the day, (doing our recce for tonight’s hash!) I kept waiting to see which one of us would chicken out at first check. However once up at the top of the hill Alison took off like a bat out of hell! A woman on a mission! Sue and I dutifully trotted along behind her. We didn’t even have enough breath for a good gossip!
I don’t think I even heard calls for checking but I believe Magic Roundabout found one of the checks.
Down off the ridge we meandered along the floor of the valley, crossed over a couple of streams and then back up another bloody big hill. A very nice hash, thank you ladies.
Back at Erin’s, after a few sustaining egg sandwiches, Smurf explained why it is called ‘The Hash House’ and told of all the runs that had begun from there.
The shout up was an orderly affair. The Hares were thanked for the run and for providing the food. I don’t think there were any first time guests, no announcements or jokes. Hash shit was dispensed to an errant hasher - Elaine.
Shortly after the shout up, we were tucking into delicious pasta and cous cous salads with roast chicken.
A very pleasant evening. Thank you Erin, KathRYN and Mad Margz for the run and the food..

RUN NO. 2239 SUBOK 378 19 JUL 2011
Date: 19 Jul 2011
Site: Subok 378
Hares: Fertile Myrtle and Kathryn
We arrived at the site of this weeks hash to be greeted by the ever enticing aroma wafting over from the Subok rubbish tip. Luckily the wind decided to co-operate and blow the smell away (most of the time). As we gathered to get ready to head off we learnt that both horns were not working. A quick bit of thinking and a scout around solved the problem and off we went to the sound of the front whistle and back rubber chicken!
A few minutes into the run the first check was encountered. Luckily I was only halfway down the hill when it was called and so when the call came from on back I only had to climb halfway back up the hill. In all there were three good checks on the run, the first found by Pee Wee, the second found by Marcella and the third found by Mad Marg.
Swiftly following on from the first check was a rather steep downhill. The ground was soft and the leaf litter made it fairly slippery but this added to the fun of the run. This was also the first of a couple of decent hills in the run, with an extra one for Mad Marg as she went searching at the third check.
The first ones out of the jungle came out looking like they had run hard and loved it! Everyone came out in good time and safely. The on on proceeded in a timely fashion and we all got on with the business of enjoying the very yummy Samosa’s provided by the hares. Thanks ladies for a great run and fantastic food.
Next weeks run is Island themed. Remember everyone you need to be at Pony Divers at Serasa by 5pm to catch the boats across, and also don’t forget to bring a change of clothes – you will get wet! See you all there. On on…

At last weeks run we were told to be on time as the boats would be leaving at 5.15pm sharp, well I just made it with a few minute to spare…. There were about 35 hashers with their life jackets on raring go to for the run on Muara Besar Island.
Thankfully the short trip across was uneventful as I can’t swim! Once everyone got of the boat and got their feet wet and onto the beach, the front hashers were off, following the paper trail over a few big bits of drift wood and the usual plastic bottles. We followed the trail through the plantation of local plants and passed many wonderful pitcher plants.
I was too far back to know who found the checks. It was a pleasant walk although there were a few muddy and swampy patches. Everyone made it back to the beach without any problems, where we had a group photo taken. Once we got back to the mainland the hares greeted us dressed in their colourful island attire.
At the shout up two new guest were introduced – one each from Canada and Germany and
small gifts were given out to the best dressed etc. The Hashit went to two willing takers: Christine & Sarah for not wearing hash shoes!
Thanks to all the Hares for the effort they put into organizing the boats and venue - everyone enjoyed the run and the delicious food.

Off we went and after about 20 minutes I thought to ask, “is this a long run”, the reply I received was “don’t know?”. First check was found by Aunty Lynn and called ‘on back’ and I was way off in the wrong direction as usual (never follow me). Off I trotted, well some of the way, the rest of the way I chatted happily wondering along. Mad Marg found the next 2 checks. Aunty Lynn was out first, well done Aunty Lynn, however I’m not sure the hot road is a good place to lie in the recovery position.
The run had a bit of up, but not much, some nice trails, a bit of water, was not too long, not too short, and not too dirty. It is always a good run when I didn’t slip down a bank or slippery slope. There were lots of wild boar tracks too.
I completely forgot I had to do the words, and I completely forgot the signs; yes I know …HASHIT!
Disappointingly Vanessa’s car was broken into and a couple of purses taken. I left early and they were still waiting for the police. Hope you managed to get all the glass out of Freddie’s car seat.
I saw some very yummy food being delivered as I left, I hope you all enjoyed it. Thanks for a lovely run, see you tonight.

RUN NO. 2237 - 5 JUL 2011 - KM 22.2 COASTALHIGHWAY
DATE: 5 JULY 2011
SITE: KM 22.2 COASTAL HIGHWAY
HARES: Possum/Trailblazer/Briony
FRONT HORN: Call Girl BACK HORN: Never Wrong
Hashing - I've heard about it for years, but never got around to finding out what it entails personally. An acquaintance's subtle explanation back then gave me a rough idea: "You enter the jungle or some sort of trail with a bottle of water, and you exit with cans of greens or blues." A few years later this week, I finally found out for myself. And boy, what took me so long?!
Site was along the Coastal Highway on 5th July... directions from numerous sources mentioned it being opposite UBD, but that was a little misleading considering how it was more like 2km further down. But I finally found it without having to do a U-turn; inside, I saw cars with ladies wearing running gear standing outside them, and knew I was at the right place.
My tiny car wedged its way through the side of two strategically placed massive puddles near the entrance. My first thought was, "OMG, is this thing going to be a wet one?" But I pressed on; my car was already halfway through the second massive puddle, and there was literally no space to turn for a swift exit; all the other cars parked at the side made it impossible. No chickening out now.
Met a couple of the ladies, Smurf and Madam Sin; ladies of leisure I've had the pleasure of meeting one too many times at a certain establishment. They told me to register, cough up my $10, and find a veteran to run with. They suggested Satu Lagi, since she's fit and I'm fit. Don't know how the latter came to mind; I haven't run through any rough terrain, or at all, in years. My weekend sailing could probably be a contributing factor, but I hardly do any running for that!
I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but Satu Lagi was already raring to go. She ran in, I ran in. Less than two minutes later, my run slowed down to a jog, and finally to an exhausted walk. Already! I was half disappointed in myself. I need to do this more often!
A lot of bright pinks overtook me; the HASH letters strewn all over their shirts tells me that they've done this before. Just you wait... I'll be like you soon enough, with all your running and not sweating that much!
I don't remember much of the trail, other than a massive longkang we had to cross, having to walk alongside aforementioned massive longkang and to not fall to our deaths (I have now developed a new fear of falling to my death into massive longkangs thanks to this trail)... and not forgetting all the long grasses. We lost the trail at some point, but Satu Lagi found it again, and we went ahead... we strolled along the beach sand, proud for being the first to find the paper that would, we assume, lead us back to the tent. A few others overtook us, but ahhh... that's ok... I'll get you next time.
Some minutes later, found a bunch of the runners sipping on a cup of fruit punch at a little hut near the finish. And sure enough, Trailblazer was there. Surely it wasn't just fruit and punch whenever she's around, right? I had my boost to run the short incline up to the tent. And I was spent.
But oh, that wasn't the last of it. Since it was my first time, I had to do some sort of initiation. Aware of my post-run-no-shower situation, I was glad there were three other newbies with me. We introduced ourselves. The ladies deemed our introduction worthy and sang us a song, and told us to consume our beverage. And finally, it was done! We're officially in the Hen House Harriers!
Later on after dinner (of buns and traditional American chow of sausages and beans), Satu Lagi and I helped Possum light up fireworks to commemorate the 4th of July. Secretly, I thought it was to honour my first hash run. Thank you, ladies! On on...

“Beyond the Back Horn”
This week’s run came with a warning from the GM that it wouldn’t be easy. The writing should have been on the wall given the relatively small number of runners and the relatively high fitness level they possessed. However, with only the mildest of qualms, off we set, ready to tackle the ‘two big hills and some heavy undergrowth.’
Going in was quite thick and we headed into a moderate climb. The front horns quickly became a faint Cullen-like blur in the distance while we carefully found a pace. Knowing there were going to be two big hills, turning back after half an hour seemed a good option. Then came the first hill. Having got to the top it seemed that going on would be easier than turning back.
The cool breeze from the ridge was lovely but the difficulty level was soon to get a lot, lot worse. The second hill was intense, seeming virtually vertical. The little engine that could proved inspirational on this hill, “I think I can, I think I can” quickly becoming my mantra.
Having reached the ridge, it seemed that we were on the home stretch. Squelching through several water crossings the air around us began to grow dusky. Looking for the white paper we had been told would show the way out, we were relieved after about the seventh time crossing the creek, to see strips of white. In the half light it was difficult to see that although white, it was possibly not new paper…
Scrambling up the creek bank and thinking we were following paper, it became an attempt to get out before the sun set completely. Soon we were met by tree trunks blocking the path. However, seeing more paper, the sensible thing seemed to be to follow it. Over the logs and through the webs we went. As we lost light, the spider webs became harder to see and seemed to be extra sticky. After climbing over more logs and up and down a gully we checked the paper by the light of key-ring pen torches. What we found were week-old holes and Chinese characters: not the paper we were looking for.
Slowly it dawned that we were somewhat off paper. An aborted phone call later the best decision seemed to be to head for higher ground to try and get some phone reception as well as bearings. By this time, a teeny-tiny bit of worry began to set in. It certainly feels isolating in the dark, disoriented and without any phone reception! After another 20 minutes heading up, a toilet stop and finger cramp from keeping the button on the torch pressed down we were rewarded by bars- Bars of DST! While on the phone we discovered we were back on the original paper- double happiness indeed.
A quick call back to the tent later and we learned the hens were on the way back in. The temptation to go on was more overwhelming than expected and in the fresh night air the night sounds played tricks. After what seemed like a lot longer than the half hour it took, we began to hear the real horns.
Slowly but surely, the on-ons got closer. And there they were, hundred pluses, torches and actual knowledge of where the hell we were. We set off the ‘back way’ to get out. The gradient of the second hill seemed even steeper on the way down. Any pretence of walking went out the window as the track became an impromptu leafy slide. Some of those branches got a bit close and personal…At the bottom it was a case of steady going and careful checks. Legs starting to wobble, it was one last hill and then a comfort stop for one of the hens and finally, four hours after we started, it looked like the night would be spent in 1000-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets rather than zero thread count leaves and insects.
The shout out consisted of unbelievably delish fresh rolls and salads, most welcome at half past nine at night, and the hardy few who stayed on to celebrate the safe return of all hashers.
Lessons learned this week: pen torches are not good in the jungle. Check paper properly before blithely following it. Always charge the phone before going out and not to get bloody lost again!
On on.

HARES: Never Wrong/Peahen
FRONT HORN: Mrs Pinggu BACK HORN: MIA as being repaired
So, 5.15 Tuesday, time for the horn to sound! And I’m reliably informed it did. Although by whom is for you to remember!
Lucky Gardens, an old favourite, off we (they) all went into the jungle. Proper trails are always good, some easy running, if a bit slippery, followed. Hills and valleys ensued, ups and downs as usual. A few streams were crossed, and a few checks were pondered upon and then found. By whom? You know who you are ;-D
Shout up was a little late, as our two veterans decided to go all the way round, and as the slower ones and late past them. Alice in Wonderland and Jenni of the block being the latest stayed with them, and with the wonder of modern technology and Legally Blonde timing from where she left them was able to report the exact location of Glamour and Duchess. Glamour arrived back at the tent under her own steam and a car was despatched to collect Duchess from the road. Both were in good spirits altho a bit tired - if you think about it, all the ladies did around 1 hr and as both Glamour and Duchess had gone in before us they must have walked a good two hours!! - Ed
A good shout up followed, then excellent makan and was ended with some sociable conviviality under darkening Brunei skies. Is this sounding like the usual words? Does it sound like a typically good ladies‘ hash run? I hope so as sadly last week, one out of this week’s 3 hares was out of country, one was absent due to the dreaded lurgy and the third one was present and correct and has picked up the signs and organised the food for tonight.
We hope we haven’t missed any awards or special mentions, was the hashit awarded? Do we deserve an award for being creative? Anyway, we hope you all enjoy tonight’s run - especially as Tiffany is a Virgin Hare (some may find the trails vaguely familiar - it is Diplo after all) and also the makan we have most carefully thrown together!
Great roti with vegetarian curry was provided by last week's hares (Ed)

At least when we arrived tonight the sky looked promising not like last weeks downpour.
I set off with Clover into the jungle letting the frontrunners charge ahead.
The words stated longer than normal so i was not sure what too expect..First we went downhill as usual and knew we would soon be heading up,up ,upl.
There we many ups and downs and when we finally reached the top of one long hill we were greeted with a very welcoming breeze.
We were wondering when we would come to the water crossings as promised in the words. We eventually did and the water was quite cool and refreshing on my feet.
As we reached the out trail some gentle light cooling rain fell.
The shout up began and this week there were no first time guests or special awards.
There was much debate for the hash shit regarding calling checks and hash t-shirts but eventually it went to Clover for forgetting to sign in.
The hares had cooked delicious vegetarian chilli .
We later sang happy birthday to Dizzy.Hope she got her free drink.

I arrived at 5pm and at that stage the clouds were looming. In need of exercise i was ready to hot foot it into the hills, but had forgotten my hash shoes and i could tell that this was not a time to wonder around in the jungle in my treadless croccs.
At 5.10 the heavens opened and it just poured down. Within moments the ground was muddy with lots of puddles. Most people dashed for the tent and that is where they remained for the duration. Front horn Sally bravely led her first time guest into the dusk, indeed both first time guests went into the jungle which is a very good sign.
In a bit, up the hill and then down to the left. I'm not sure what happened to Sally but she ended up leading her unsuspecting companion on hands and knees through a tunnel of fallen branches. Having lost her bearings and the with the paper disintegrating at an alarming rate the hashers decided to vere on the side of caution and return to base by the same route they had entered the jungle.
Having had no exercise and consequently an extra hour to use up some tokens, the shout up was rather more boyant than usual. Two first time hashers were welcomed - girls we hope the weather will not put you off joining us in the future. Legally Blond had us laughing with her jokes as did the musical rendition, performed by Aunty Lynn and Tango, which accompanied the goings on and Aunty Lynn celebrated 102 runs

RUN NO. 2232 - SG AKAR 31 MAY 2011
The walk down the hill concerned some as we knew we had to go back up to sign out but down we went and after crossing the busy road we were in the jungle. Thank goodness it hadn’t rained as it was slippery enough as we went up and down on the trail.
It wasn’t long before we hit the first check and with so few runners we were all at the front checking! GI Jane found the back check and we were off again. The trail had all the components of a good Hash run with hills, water, mud and brambles – lovely!! Satu Lagi was on top form and found checks 2 and 3 and then we were out.
We were greeted by the Hares Alison, Sue and Cheryl with a lovely cocktail and a gift of a bag to celebrate Alison’s 950 runs and Cheryl’s 450 runs – what a great achievement girls – and Alison nearly at her 1000 runs!!
Dizzy duly started the shout up and brought the Hares up so we could give them their much deserved down down. Alison and Cheryl also got another down down to celebrate their Run Awards which they had spent on the bags for us – so thank you! The Hares also gave prizes to the best and oldest Hash T- shirts which proved to be fun!
At this point the Bar Flies realised that we were being bitten alive but as nobody was prepared to venture down the hill to their cars to get their Off we decided that drinking more was a better option!
Legally Blonde told us some fab jokes and has kept some for next run which I look forward to! Madam Sin also added another joke to the evening’s entertainment. With jokes like these every week I am sure we wouldn’t miss Speedo so much!!
The Hash Shit came next which went to Legally Blonde – again – and MadMargz for not signing IN or OUT! However I hope none of the other Hash Chapters find out that we faked the water throwing!! We really are getting TOO soft!!
The Hares put on a lovely spread of pasta and salad with cake to follow. Thank you Hares for a great run, yummy food and a lovely gift!

RUN NO. 2231 - KOTA BATU 24 MAY 2011
So, Tuesday 24th May finds me yet again breaking the speed limit to make the hash site before 5.15pm and I made it!! My co-hares were no where to be seen! Oh dear does this mean I'll have to do the run so I can write the words but then I remembered a good story never needs the whole truth to be a good tale so make it up my inner self was saying and then my truthful nature won through and tried to turn me away from such falsehood. Luckily one of my co-hares turned up at this point to help my struggle with my conscience, “We'll just give them a fairy story nobody will ever notice and I'm good at fairy stories cos I'm a primary school teacher!!” so it was decided a fairy story it was to be.
So the horn (this week being controlled by Satu Lagi) called us to start our fairy story at 5.15 precisely and oh how we wished we had the wings of a fairy as we went up and up and up will it ever stop!! Words of wisdom were heard at the top of the tarmac “Why didn't we park up here!?” hindsight is such a powerful thing. We passed Veronica taking in the view and waiting for the determined Glamour to return from the top of the hill, strike that it must have been a mountain we'd climbed at least!! We were passed by are other co-hare “So who's doing the words?” “Don't worry” came the reply, in gasps as we puffed up the hill, “the Fairies are doing them!!”
Well we climbed and we scrambled very unfairy like up the Kota Batu ridge in hope of fantastic views and some air, we got both if only our lungs would work and our hearts slow down! At last it was flattish and we could catch our breath, it was at this point when you start feeling good from your achievement and maybe there's a kick of adrenalin into the system we said lets go on it's not bad here!!! I was also reminded at this point what a fellow hasher had said before the start of the run. Someone was asking what the run could be like and it was said by a certain hasher “Probable up, along and then down!” I suggested it could be up, down, along and then up and down again!!! “No way Dizzy wont do that”, so confidence boosted we went on. Well Dizzy did do it didn't she, cos not long after the very gentle top we started going down and down and down some more, but not back down to Kota Batu but somewhere else. We slipped and slipped some more until we could hear chickens and see houses..... Jalan Subok!! we paused to think A to B that would be good!! Unfortunately A to B was not on the Hares's agenda, but razor grass was as we dropped down to muddy streams and rocky outcrops along the valley. It was pretty again and flattish so we enjoyed the breather, disturbed quite a bit of wild life and had to do a detour around an angry bee wish you front runners hadn't disturbed him so much, luckily he was on his own so a slight detour solved our problem. Breather done and slightly recovered, we knew what must be coming..... the ascent!!
Up and up and up some more until we spied Alice in Wonderland sitting contemplating the scenery, she said she was enjoying the air, I was having difficulty getting the air in so we sat on the very kindly provided seat. Quickly to be off again at the mention of photograph taking. Oh no, I've never known anyone get my good side yet on a hash photo so we'll give that a miss thanks Alice, see you at the bottom. The fairies took flight and down we went at first sedately as would be expected but at one point, we started descending far too quickly as that kindly placed rope came away from it's post and sent your 2 startled fairy story tellers hurtling downwards. As luck would have it and fairies tend to have quite a supply of luck we were able to solidly plant our dainty feet on firm ground and stop our descent phew, this hashing larks not for the faint hearted!!!! On down again at a slower more controlled rate avoiding holding ropes along the way finally saw us spy the road..... Kota Batu thank goodness and right at the road saw your fairies re-appear at the site and a welcome tipple of nectar to restore the energy supplies. Oh sorry missed back horn out think it was Squeak and as for checks well they were all laid through very well thank you to whoever found them, we believe there was 5!! A very good workout, run, wonderful food and on-on thank you Dizzy and Sally ( no longer a virgin). The shout up was quite short, no guest, no awards, a few announcements and a thank you from Cheryl for the hash's flowers and card. Misdemeanors were more common as Dizzy and Legally Blond took the hashit together for sign forgetting – one didn't sign out and one left a hash sign at last weeks run!! well taken ladies but Never Wrong you need to improve your aim!!
So to this weeks run, basically wait and see but the hills are not as high as this weeks I can assure you!!!, be careful on the road crossing and enjoy...... ON ON Alison, Cheryl and Sue

RUN NO. 2230 - MENTERI LINK - 17 MAY 2011
A bijoux but hardy bunch of Hashers gathered for last weeks Rainbow Hash starting at Mentiri Link. A beautiful evening greeted us and we were all raring to go. This week we were joined by a novice Hasher and her thoughts and feelings will accompany this weeks WORDS!
Novice Hasher
After rocking up on the side of the road with my heart beating and sweaty palms, I wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for! I'd heard a lot about this Hashing lark and was keen to see what it was all about. However as 5.15 approached I was beginning to wonder whether I'd made the right decision. Certainly there was an interesting selection of fashions, perhaps white hot pants and peep toe sandals were not the best thing to wear, surely I wasn't about to get dirty or sweaty?
The Horn went right on time and the Hash started with a lung busting steep climb into the jungle!
Novice Hasher
What the dickens is this ? Is there a stair lift available?
The trail was beautifully laid, with the paper being easily identified. Within a short space of time the front runners had called the first check.
Novice Hasher
Far Far away in the distance I thought I heard someone shout decking! Oooo lovely, at last, maybe they serve light refreshments on this decking!
The check was easily found and the front pack were off again. We were subjected to some beautiful jungle with plenty of ups and downs.
Novice Hasher
More blinking ups, this is a beyond a joke, the least they could do is provide oxygen cylinders!
As we began the second half of the Hash trail, we came upon a beautiful waterfall and the temptation to get in for a dip was huge!
Novice Hasher
Well they've made me trek through jungle practically on my hands and knees, in the blistering heat, without so much as a Mr Softee van on route and now I've got to balance on a knife edge with my life in my hands. I would admire the ******* waterfall if I wasn't busy clinging to this hill side with blister ridden toes and finger nails.
The sound of the front pack was now obsolete and by all accounts the checks were found with out incidents! Even the most senior Hashers had now all sprinted past and Novice Hasher and I were left with the sound of the jungle, the squelch of our shoes and the gentle rasp of the iron lung. As the light began to fail, the end was in sight. A walk had become a steady crawl, one final stream to cross.
Novice Hasher
You are kidding me!
Just at that moment Dizzy appeared like a fairy godmother brandishing a magic potion, a slightly slimy orange concoction to revive even the most weary of jungle warriors!
Suitably restored we leapt like spring lambs over the last stream and exited the jungle. The road, the boards, civilization - we'd made it!
We later discovered that tulips had been scattered intermittently around the route and all had been successfully collected. The keen eyed were rewarded with a rainbow lolly at the On On.
So Novice Hasher what did you think of your first ever Hash ?
BLOODY BRILLIANT!

RUN NO. 2229 - MORLEY MOVERS - 10 MAY 11
Baskets made by indigenous people were on sale. Also on sale was a basket of hand made items, made by Psycho and Rosie, to raise money for Animal Welfare, in particular for the pups found at Diplo who were lucky to find a home with Taco and Ellen (H4).
A man was at the site, dripping with sweat. It was his lucky day too because while doing a reccy for an upcoming H4 run he got lost and it was only finding paper for the ladies run that enabled him to get out to civilisation again. He was very thankful to H3.
The shout up was short and sweet. Hares were thanked, the horns were thanked, announcements were made, no jokes were told and the hash-it was not awarded. Delicious pizzas were served. The imbibers lingered on. It was all in all a very pleasant run and evening.

RUN NO. 2227 - DST 26APR2011
Well, what a good turnout we had! And blessed by the weather we were too!
The Bride and Groom awaited their many invited quests at the alter, while the dutiful bridesmaids scattered their long green confetti and hearts on the trail of love. A flat run as promised led the congregation into romantic scenery, consisting of the gas line, moonscapes and swamps! With checks in place, the congregation had time to gather around and take in the latest gossip, wondering who had designed the dress, and what would the wedding breakfast be. As the brides and groom sashayed down the aisle, the congregation joined in a medley of traditional wedding songs!
Pre wedding cocktails were on offer to the thirsty congregation, who by now were adourned in a beautiful array of milinery. The nurses and their OT caps for their initiative, Eastern Promise and the winner (blue can for the first person to tell us this week who it was) were brought up to show off their hats
Christine, Bunny Girl, Satu Lagi and Call Girl were head to head in the final of the quiz. Now you know why it is important to remember these days. The date of the Prince Charles and Di wedding - could have won you a hamper...well done to Christine, the Royal Wedding correspondent brought especially out from the UK.
The throwing of the bouquet and the cutting of the cake, brought a tear to many of the congregation. You may now kiss the bride, said the vicar which announced the end of the shout up. Thanks to the committee for a well run event, lovely grub from the yacht club - Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud and jolly good fun.
Dont expect that this week..
NEXT RUN: Subok 309 (towards town end)

RUN NO. 2226 - DIPLO - 19APR2011
Well I made it through another hash without going via RIPAS, hooray. I do seriously think I sweated out about 30 per cent of my body fluid on that first hill, thank you Mad Margz for rescuing me with your company and encouragement. I think it was because I left my trusty stick in the car and had to lug myself around the jungle purely with leg power and not arm assistance.
The arms aren’t too bad, having picked up my two lumps of lads now for 15 months, about 100 times a day each. The legs are a different matter, generally sitting on my big fat gluteus maximus feeding, changing, storying etc, except for Tuesday nights, of course which brings me back to the hash.
Allegedly Tango two, Vanessa one was the score for check finding. A clear, round, circle of paper was left where first check had been, as an indicator for the sensible, the lame and the "just can’t be bothered let’s drink", to turn back before they were cajoled into the bosom of the jungle with her moist tendrils, eclectic foliage and beckoning symphony of inhabitants, pheasant, frog and Tango going, “ me shoes are too small, me feet hoot!”
Seventy five minutes of up, down, through, puff, squelch, ow and I was out. Thoroughly enjoyed a very well laid trail and tip top grub and plenty of it.
See you next week. On on.
