RUN NO. 2231 - KOTA BATU 24 MAY 2011

RUN NO. 2231
DATE: 24 MAY 2011
SITE: KOTA BATU SPG 665
HARE S: DIZZY & SALLY
FRONT HORN: SATU LAGI BACK HORN: SQUEAK

Another Tuesday another decision, which route is best - Menteri link then Kota Batu or town then Kota Batu ?? Questions/decisions not a good finish to a tiring day all I want to do is get there!! Oh for a helicopter, a motor bike (no far too dangerous), a police escort... now we're talking BUT no not for this humble ladies hasher, instead it's the slow slog through traffic lights, road works, incredibly slow or manic drivers and that's waiting for me if only I can get out of the RIPAS staff car park!! People say RIPAS is an acronym for Rest In Peace After Surgery or Retired Indian Pakistani and Sri Lankans well I'm here to tell you for definite it's not it stands for Right Idiotic Parking Allocation System.

So, Tuesday 24th May finds me yet again breaking the speed limit to make the hash site before 5.15pm and I made it!! My co-hares were no where to be seen! Oh dear does this mean I'll have to do the run so I can write the words but then I remembered a good story never needs the whole truth to be a good tale so make it up my inner self was saying and then my truthful nature won through and tried to turn me away from such falsehood. Luckily one of my co-hares turned up at this point to help my struggle with my conscience, “We'll just give them a fairy story nobody will ever notice and I'm good at fairy stories cos I'm a primary school teacher!!” so it was decided a fairy story it was to be.

So the horn (this week being controlled by Satu Lagi) called us to start our fairy story at 5.15 precisely and oh how we wished we had the wings of a fairy as we went up and up and up will it ever stop!! Words of wisdom were heard at the top of the tarmac “Why didn't we park up here!?” hindsight is such a powerful thing. We passed Veronica taking in the view and waiting for the determined Glamour to return from the top of the hill, strike that it must have been a mountain we'd climbed at least!! We were passed by are other co-hare “So who's doing the words?” “Don't worry” came the reply, in gasps as we puffed up the hill, “the Fairies are doing them!!”

Well we climbed and we scrambled very unfairy like up the Kota Batu ridge in hope of fantastic views and some air, we got both if only our lungs would work and our hearts slow down! At last it was flattish and we could catch our breath, it was at this point when you start feeling good from your achievement and maybe there's a kick of adrenalin into the system we said lets go on it's not bad here!!! I was also reminded at this point what a fellow hasher had said before the start of the run. Someone was asking what the run could be like and it was said by a certain hasher “Probable up, along and then down!” I suggested it could be up, down, along and then up and down again!!! “No way Dizzy wont do that”, so confidence boosted we went on. Well Dizzy did do it didn't she, cos not long after the very gentle top we started going down and down and down some more, but not back down to Kota Batu but somewhere else. We slipped and slipped some more until we could hear chickens and see houses..... Jalan Subok!! we paused to think A to B that would be good!! Unfortunately A to B was not on the Hares's agenda, but razor grass was as we dropped down to muddy streams and rocky outcrops along the valley. It was pretty again and flattish so we enjoyed the breather, disturbed quite a bit of wild life and had to do a detour around an angry bee wish you front runners hadn't disturbed him so much, luckily he was on his own so a slight detour solved our problem. Breather done and slightly recovered, we knew what must be coming..... the ascent!!

Up and up and up some more until we spied Alice in Wonderland sitting contemplating the scenery, she said she was enjoying the air, I was having difficulty getting the air in so we sat on the very kindly provided seat. Quickly to be off again at the mention of photograph taking. Oh no, I've never known anyone get my good side yet on a hash photo so we'll give that a miss thanks Alice, see you at the bottom. The fairies took flight and down we went at first sedately as would be expected but at one point, we started descending far too quickly as that kindly placed rope came away from it's post and sent your 2 startled fairy story tellers hurtling downwards. As luck would have it and fairies tend to have quite a supply of luck we were able to solidly plant our dainty feet on firm ground and stop our descent phew, this hashing larks not for the faint hearted!!!! On down again at a slower more controlled rate avoiding holding ropes along the way finally saw us spy the road..... Kota Batu thank goodness and right at the road saw your fairies re-appear at the site and a welcome tipple of nectar to restore the energy supplies. Oh sorry missed back horn out think it was Squeak and as for checks well they were all laid through very well thank you to whoever found them, we believe there was 5!! A very good workout, run, wonderful food and on-on thank you Dizzy and Sally ( no longer a virgin). The shout up was quite short, no guest, no awards, a few announcements and a thank you from Cheryl for the hash's flowers and card. Misdemeanors were more common as Dizzy and Legally Blond took the hashit together for sign forgetting – one didn't sign out and one left a hash sign at last weeks run!! well taken ladies but Never Wrong you need to improve your aim!!

So to this weeks run, basically wait and see but the hills are not as high as this weeks I can assure you!!!, be careful on the road crossing and enjoy...... ON ON Alison, Cheryl and Sue

THIS WEEK: SG AKAR
Park at Water Tower Spg and cross carefully over to the other side for run.

RUN NO. 2230 - MENTERI LINK - 17 MAY 2011

RUN NO. 2230
DATE: 17 MAY 2011
SITE: MENTERI LINK
HARES: GI JANE/SID/FIONA/VELMA
FRONT HORN: MADMARG BACK HORN: TRAILBLAZER

A bijoux but hardy bunch of Hashers gathered for last weeks Rainbow Hash starting at Mentiri Link. A beautiful evening greeted us and we were all raring to go. This week we were joined by a novice Hasher and her thoughts and feelings will accompany this weeks WORDS!

Novice Hasher

After rocking up on the side of the road with my heart beating and sweaty palms, I wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for! I'd heard a lot about this Hashing lark and was keen to see what it was all about. However as 5.15 approached I was beginning to wonder whether I'd made the right decision. Certainly there was an interesting selection of fashions, perhaps white hot pants and peep toe sandals were not the best thing to wear, surely I wasn't about to get dirty or sweaty?

The Horn went right on time and the Hash started with a lung busting steep climb into the jungle!

Novice Hasher

What the dickens is this ? Is there a stair lift available?

The trail was beautifully laid, with the paper being easily identified. Within a short space of time the front runners had called the first check.

Novice Hasher

Far Far away in the distance I thought I heard someone shout decking! Oooo lovely, at last, maybe they serve light refreshments on this decking!

The check was easily found and the front pack were off again. We were subjected to some beautiful jungle with plenty of ups and downs.

Novice Hasher

More blinking ups, this is a beyond a joke, the least they could do is provide oxygen cylinders!

As we began the second half of the Hash trail, we came upon a beautiful waterfall and the temptation to get in for a dip was huge!

Novice Hasher

Well they've made me trek through jungle practically on my hands and knees, in the blistering heat, without so much as a Mr Softee van on route and now I've got to balance on a knife edge with my life in my hands. I would admire the ******* waterfall if I wasn't busy clinging to this hill side with blister ridden toes and finger nails.

The sound of the front pack was now obsolete and by all accounts the checks were found with out incidents! Even the most senior Hashers had now all sprinted past and Novice Hasher and I were left with the sound of the jungle, the squelch of our shoes and the gentle rasp of the iron lung. As the light began to fail, the end was in sight. A walk had become a steady crawl, one final stream to cross.

Novice Hasher

You are kidding me!

Just at that moment Dizzy appeared like a fairy godmother brandishing a magic potion, a slightly slimy orange concoction to revive even the most weary of jungle warriors!

Suitably restored we leapt like spring lambs over the last stream and exited the jungle. The road, the boards, civilization - we'd made it!

We later discovered that tulips had been scattered intermittently around the route and all had been successfully collected. The keen eyed were rewarded with a rainbow lolly at the On On.

So Novice Hasher what did you think of your first ever Hash ?

BLOODY BRILLIANT!

Many thanks to Mrs Doolan's special refreshments and pithy 'black testicle' joke that helped eradicate the memory of blood, sweat and tears!

RUN NO. 2229 - MORLEY MOVERS - 10 MAY 11

RUN NO. 2229
DATE: 10 MAY 2011
SITE: MORLEY MOVERS
HARES: Ryvita/Call Girl

It was a beautiful rain free evening at Morley Movers and about 40 hens had gathered for the run. There was the obligatory first hill which means when we get to the top we have to go down. Some turned back but many continued on. The checks were found and then the pond was reached. Evidence of further removal of jungle for housing projects was visible. Another hill, very steep and very wet and very, very thorny had to be climbed before descending the equally steep but less thorny trail with giant trees still standing, back across the sand to the tent.

Baskets made by indigenous people were on sale. Also on sale was a basket of hand made items, made by Psycho and Rosie, to raise money for Animal Welfare, in particular for the pups found at Diplo who were lucky to find a home with Taco and Ellen (H4).

A man was at the site, dripping with sweat. It was his lucky day too because while doing a reccy for an upcoming H4 run he got lost and it was only finding paper for the ladies run that enabled him to get out to civilisation again. He was very thankful to H3.

The shout up was short and sweet. Hares were thanked, the horns were thanked, announcements were made, no jokes were told and the hash-it was not awarded. Delicious pizzas were served. The imbibers lingered on. It was all in all a very pleasant run and evening.

RUN NO. 2228
DATE: 3 MAY 2011
SITE: SPG 309 SUBOK
HARES: Pee Wee/Mrs Pingu

We arrived on site last Tuesday to find a merry group of hens, despite the grey skies and rain coming and going. Maybe it was the new site that put everyone in such a good mood, spg 309 Subok, mostly unknown territory for many of the hens.

We all set off happily, some got stuck already at the first "hill" (...) and turned back; but the rest of us enjoyed a lovely, lovely run. We followed our trail through some really nice jungle bits, past a huge waterfall, through some orchards and gardens and up to the top of a very big hill. Yes, there was only that ONE hill, but man was it never-ending..! The view was nice from the first part, we didn't really have to go all the way to the top, did we? :)

I for one was glad we went down those many steps in the end, and not up - and also that the rain kept away, otherwise the last bit through the open, slightly muddy area would have been more like a mud-bath!

All in all a super-duper run! Thank you Mrs Pingu and PeeWee!

This weeks on-on was a pretty straight forward affair. No first time guests although both horns were virgin horns (Erin & Sally), Legally Blond entertained us with a few good jokes, no hashit was awarded and the food was delicious laksa, mmm!

Well, what a good turnout we had! And blessed by the weather we were too!

The Bride and Groom awaited their many invited quests at the alter, while the dutiful bridesmaids scattered their long green confetti and hearts on the trail of love. A flat run as promised led the congregation into romantic scenery, consisting of the gas line, moonscapes and swamps! With checks in place, the congregation had time to gather around and take in the latest gossip, wondering who had designed the dress, and what would the wedding breakfast be. As the brides and groom sashayed down the aisle, the congregation joined in a medley of traditional wedding songs!

Pre wedding cocktails were on offer to the thirsty congregation, who by now were adourned in a beautiful array of milinery. The nurses and their OT caps for their initiative, Eastern Promise and the winner (blue can for the first person to tell us this week who it was) were brought up to show off their hats

Christine, Bunny Girl, Satu Lagi and Call Girl were head to head in the final of the quiz. Now you know why it is important to remember these days. The date of the Prince Charles and Di wedding - could have won you a hamper...well done to Christine, the Royal Wedding correspondent brought especially out from the UK.

The throwing of the bouquet and the cutting of the cake, brought a tear to many of the congregation. You may now kiss the bride, said the vicar which announced the end of the shout up. Thanks to the committee for a well run event, lovely grub from the yacht club - Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud and jolly good fun.

Dont expect that this week..

Well I made it through another hash without going via RIPAS, hooray. I do seriously think I sweated out about 30 per cent of my body fluid on that first hill, thank you Mad Margz for rescuing me with your company and encouragement. I think it was because I left my trusty stick in the car and had to lug myself around the jungle purely with leg power and not arm assistance.

The arms aren’t too bad, having picked up my two lumps of lads now for 15 months, about 100 times a day each. The legs are a different matter, generally sitting on my big fat gluteus maximus feeding, changing, storying etc, except for Tuesday nights, of course which brings me back to the hash.

Allegedly Tango two, Vanessa one was the score for check finding. A clear, round, circle of paper was left where first check had been, as an indicator for the sensible, the lame and the "just can’t be bothered let’s drink", to turn back before they were cajoled into the bosom of the jungle with her moist tendrils, eclectic foliage and beckoning symphony of inhabitants, pheasant, frog and Tango going, “ me shoes are too small, me feet hoot!”

Seventy five minutes of up, down, through, puff, squelch, ow and I was out. Thoroughly enjoyed a very well laid trail and tip top grub and plenty of it.

See you next week. On on.

RUN NO. 2225 - LUCKY GARDENS - 12 APR 2011

RUN NO. 2225 DATE: 12 APR 2011 SITE: LUCKY GARDENS HARES: Aunty Lynn/Marcela/Mad Marg/Sarah P FRONT HORN: Mrs Pingu BACK HORN: Trailblazer Heading off to tonight's run at Lucky Gardens the weather was looking very suspect. Dark clouds were lingering and it looked like we were going to have a wet hash. As we all gathered around, Hot Lips gave us all a J cloth each which really made me think of Lee as she always had one in her hand at every run. Mrs Pingu was front horn and set off in a true speedy fashion and the rest of us followed! We headed into the jungle and had a lovely run up to first check which was in familiar territory. While searching for the On paper the weather started to move in and at the same time we had found the trail - unfortunately not the On paper as we had managed to cut the paper trail! We all split up trying to find the On paper but by then the sky had truly opened up and the rain was POURINT! Our "chux" as the Kiwis call the J cloths, came to good use but in the end we were all too wet to bother. Myself and pretty much everybody else turned back and came out the same way we came in. Only Trailblazer, Readymix, Mrs Pingu and Hot Lips finished the run - I take my hat off - well done ladies!!! We went back to Marcela's house for the shout up. Everyone enjoyed a yummy blue cocktail, blue being Lee's favourite colour and Aunty Lynn read a lovely poem from the Ride of Silence: by Mike Murgas Tonight we number many but ride as one In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, sons With helmets on tight and heads down low, we ride in silence, cautious and slow. The wheels start spinning in the lead pack But tonight we ride adn no one attacks. The dark sunglasses cover our tears Remembering those we healed so dear. Tonight's ride is to make others aware The road is there for us to share. To those not with us or by our side May God be your partner on your final ride. We had no new guests on this run but a returning guest in Kate Chamberlain aka Boomerang. Sarah Abraham was given the hashit for not signing in OR out and so did Satu Lagi for leaving her key in the key basket??? That's a long story - ask Satu Lagi if you want to know the true, full version. Dinner was Fish and Chips which everyone enjoyed and the evening carried on, for some until past midnight I believe. SITE: LUCKY GARDENS
HARES: NEVER WRONG/CLOVER

Oh my Giddy Aunt!!!
Here it is Monday and as no words have arrived and I am not sure who is doing them , you will have to put up with a few words from me – unprepared as I am! I just knew it was going to be a disaster right from the start – well, I didn’t actually know , but it all the makings of a one! I set off from home early to pick up Heulwen &, ten minutes down the road – I realised that I had forgotten my mobile phone – “no worries’ I told myself, Heulwen will have one and we can stay together.

Unfortunately when I arrived at her house there was no answer when I knocked on the door – usually she is waiting for me Strange!! I knocked and hooted but to no avail, so thought she may
have sent me a message on the mobile phone that had been left at home – but no, when I returned home and collected my phone, there was a message to say she had seen me leave her house after my final hooting of the horn.

On to Lucky Gardens despite a few murky black clouds, I had asked a friend to come to the hash as a !st time guest, well actually it was her 2nd time, she later told us that she had done her 1st hash more than 30 years ago when she had first visited Brunei. But, where was she? I had told her to just follow the signs and low and behold after the first sign, directing us into Lucky Gardens, there were no more, so when the horn hooted to start the hash, off I went and hoped
she would find us in the end.

Up the familiar barren hill to the start of a beautiful trail through the jungle, I followed red wellies - photos will reveal who it was who trecked them round the jungle!! - Good move as it turned out as we had to wade our way through some swampy water at the end of the trail. One unlucky soul fell in – great action shot! We rounded off the evening with tails of adventure and trekking from Yann, a down down for Carole our 2nd time guest!! And then down to the serious stuff – great food! Thank you hares Clover and Never Wrong... Poem from Psycho just arrived and to follow................on on

Attack Of The Pink
Wellies : A True Story
It was a cloudy dismal looking day.
The ladies arrived at the hash site on time.
When suddenly a pair of Pink Wellies showed
up.

OMG!! WoW!!
The horn was blown.
Run ladies runnnnn.
A few ladies fell behind and were blinded
by the intensity of the Pink of the Wellies.
Those who ran ahead were being chased.

Oh woe is the hash
Who is brave enough
To save us from the wrath of the Pink Wellies
It’s Domestic Goddess
She chased the Pink Wellies
Past second check
And lunged downhill

They stumbled along to the out trail
Pink Wellies caught up Briani and Erin
In the excitement of catching two ladies
Crossing the deep rushing deadly river
Pink Wellies fell in
Almost drowned

Through the action packed hash of it all
There was another On Up and On Down
Until we are saved!
Ice and JM’s were missing
Attack of the Flu & Children

GM took over to sort out
The hashdemic we were facing
Relief were given to those in need
Nourishing food
Amber beverage
A tavern of camaraderie
As for the Pink Wellies
It was properly drowned
And hung to dry
On On!
The End

FRONT HORN: Ryvita BACK HORN: Hot Lips

After the very heavy rain in the early hours of the morning I was thinking will we have a slippery, muddy run tonight? Will it rain again in the afternoon which has been happening every day? Will the streams now be rivers?

I turned up a bit late and all the hens had taken off on the trail to the left of the tent. We haven't been into this part of the jungle for a while, nice change. I managed to catch up to the main bunch just as the first check was called. Sue found the on paper. I had headed in the wrong direction along with Dizzy and Mrs Pingu. We managed to catch up to the front bunch and continued on up the hill from hell that just kept going up & up & up and then twisting to the left side of the hill then up again and down into the valley and up again and back down into the valley, what a work out to get to second check.

Once again I headed in the wrong direction and the call on paper was on back which was found by Vanessa. Guess what, another hill to tackle. It wasn't as hard as the previous one! Once I reached the top of the valley third check had been called. Vanessa and I went checking, this time int he right direction and called on paper, after that it was a great trail back to the site. No it didn't rain until most of the hashers were out of the jungle and it wasn't too muddy only at the start and there were no rivers to cross so all in all a great hash and there were some new trails cut for this run.

Thank you ladies for delicious food and great run.

At the shout up one new guest was introduced: Fai from Thailand and Madam Sin's sister Christine was welcomed back. No hash-shit this week.

A quite small but dedicated group of hashers due to the school holidays gathered at Subok 67 and discussed whether it would be a long run and whether to just go to the ridge and turn round or brave the whole trail.

I made the climb to the ridge and after talking to the local whose house was located at the top and being proudly shown his orchids, I bravely decided I needed a longer walk.

From then on it was a long trek with many steep ups and downs and water crossings. Whenever I thought I had come to the top of the last hill I spotted another to be ascended, so I plodded along. By the time I reached the out trail, a torch was necessary with the final leg being slippery with holes and drains to be overcome. I was relieved to finally reach the end.

Thank you to Domestic Goddess and Virgin hare Heulwen who said the hash reminded her of the
hills and valleys in her homeland wales. The shout up commenced with 2 first time guests being introduced and Christine celebrating her 50th run.

Madmargz and Alice entertained us with amusing jokes and Satu lagi reminded us it was Run 2222 on the 22nd March.

As usual whenever Domestic Goddess lays a run we know the food will be delicious and tonight was no exception with mouthwatering vegetarian curry. Thank you hares for a challenging hash and beautiful food. We were obviously a well behaved group of hashers as there were no calls for the hash-shit this week!!.

Ah, to be sure we were looking forward to the St. Patrick's day hash but alas Irish luck was not with us as the day dawned. "Stay indoors, stay out of the jungle if it's raining. There's a possibility of acid rain fall from Japan" came the text messages from various sources. A nasty rumor or sound advice?

Who knows? As we drove along Domestic Goddess and I decided to take heed and just venture for a short walk. We ended up walking round the water tower. Very scenic!

The Irish flag flew high as the hens set off many blending into the background dressed in various
shades of green. Thanks to Never Wrong for filling us in on the fine details of the trail on her
return. Beginning with a steep slope down, then a deep river crossing. A gradual up,up,up for
quite a while. Along a long winding trail, many pitcher plants to be seen, and coming out where
the in-trail started. Then back through the river and back up the slope. Verdict - a very pretty trail, not too much mud.

Begorrah everyone was welcomed back to base with a tasty drop of the hard stuff! Squeek
returned with a beaming smile, proudly announcing that she had found a shamrock and a check!
Time then for Squeek to bring the house to order. This week's hares had morphed into three
green Leprechauns (though taller than the average!) Thanks to this week's front and back horns.
Shamrock finders Squeek and Readymix were rewarded with a drop of Ireland's finest, a cool can of the Dark Stuff. There was one guest this week but alas, she had already left and gone home!

The hashshit was duly awarded to Sarah who bravely confessed that she had forgotten to sign both in and out! A hilarious joke about missing pants brought much hilarity to one and all. Then the Leprechauns served up some delicious Irish stew. Yum yum!

An Irishman once said - At the end of a busy day it's good to get down on your knees and
give thanks that you're still on your feet! On On.

RUN NO. 2220
SITE: MENTERI LINK
HARES: Pee Wee/G I Jane/Hot Lips
FRONT HORN: Tango
BACK HORN: Shantal/Elaine

As we all gathered roadside in Mentiri, the horn was sounded by Tango as she
set the pace in her "too tight shoes holding the friggen horn!" Much needed
back horn support was provided by Shantal and Elaine.

A short way along the road we cut in to a picturesque part of the jungle with
sweeping vines and flowing streams. Not longer after entering we heard the
very familiar "Checking from hereeeeeeeer" and shortly afterwards the melodic
tones of Mrs Pingu as she bellowed On On On Paperrrrrrrr!

As the hash continued there was much time spent on a vertical angle as we went onwards and
upwards. Mrs Pingu was on fine form finding the second check as well. This part of the jungle provided some great variety with streams to jump, logs to scramble over and mud to squelch through. Throw in some snow and we could have had a bear hunt!

An hour later and one more check, we were back roadside for some much needed rehydration.
Over to Simpang 323 for the On On and the smell of sausages cooking on the BBQ gently wafted
in our direction as we set up chairs by the swimming pool.

The lovely Dizzy had returned from mighty Blighty to hold the reins with Squeak and lead us
through this weeks On On. Congratulations to Karen for 300 runs and Pee Wee for 150 runs! We
welcomed this week three new guests who were thoroughly entertained by Possums joke. No
hash-shit this week so remember to be vigilant with that sign in board!

With mouths watering we were treated to delicious hotdogs (and vegetarian patties for the
vegetarians) and a variety of salads. To go with the BBQ!!!

RUN NO. 2219
DATE: 1 MAR 2011

HARES: DIVA/TRAILBLAZER/SMURF

Well, the horn may well have sounded at 5.15 sharp, but I would have no idea! Being all organised I left home at 4.15, enough time to get through the traffic, which I did, no problem. However on turning into Kg Mata Mata I realised that I had forgotten the blasted lights! Damn damn damn! So a nifty little u-turn and off I set, back to Jalan Muara, this time really hitting the traffic :-( Anyway, I finally rocked up at 5.40.

Having been in communication with the hares, I thought I would probably be able to do the run, but after setting off, I went up the hill and realised I had gone off paper - things really were conspiring! Back on paper I realised my legs just didn’t have it in them (nothing to do with a 4 hour recce the Sunday before I’m sure.....) so I did the sensible thing and went in 20 minutes and came out again, just as the front runners were coming out. Everyone came out in good time this week, sensible hashing prevailed! Our only problem was the lack of tent! Satu lagi called again and they finally rocked up at about 6.40 - even later than me. Good thing they did as it was definitely starting to spit.

The shout up commenced - hares Diva, Smurf and Trailblazer were down downed for a lovely run, I think there was an FTG, and as has been the norm for this year, we had a couple of new members! Diva got her 100th run award - bravo Diva! And this is why she set the run with Smurf and Trailblazer, they helped her lay her very first run a couple of years back - also at Mata Mata! They put on yummy food, roast chicken, tuna, egg, cheese and salad rolls! Had to go back for seconds, it would have been rude not to! RUN NO. 2218 SPG 378 SG AKAR 22 FEB 2011

RUN NO. 2218
SITE: SPG 378 SG AKAR
DATE: 22 FEB 2011
HARES: Clover/Mani Mouse/GI Jane
FRONT HORN: Vanessa
BACK HORN: Madmargz

It was a clear afternoon when we arrived at Subok and put on my hash shoes and began first part of the run…. walk up the hill to sign in. A really good turn out of ladies and a first time guest as well.

Horn sounded and off we went. Into the jungle and the beautiful aromas of the old rubbish dump wafting trhough. Not far along and the checking began. It was found on back and off we went down down, slippery slippery, some up up, slippery slippery. Second checking started and I believe one of our returning hashers found the on paper. Away we went again..on up.

After all the rain of recent the jungle was like a muddy waterslide but we eventually made our way out to a large upwards incline cut through the bracken. Beautiful pitcher plants and eventually after getting to the top – via some rope assistance – a beautiful view!!! And once again the lovely aroma of…rubbish.

We carried on along and we finally came out at Markucing…. A to B!!! Bus waiting, drinks waiting, GI Jane waiting.

On to the bus and back to the on on site.

As we settled in to the shout up we thanked the hares for a great run, celebrated Clover’s 100th run, welcomed our new guest and when it came to Hashit we checked the board to discover that Velma and Christine were still in the jungle…. And they were!!! After some confirmation that Linda’s car was parked, and we were unable to contact them, 4 ladies went back in to look for them – Eastern Promise, Marcel, Mad Marg and GI Jane. Meanwhile Dee went down to the B site to check for them but with no luck. Eventually we got the call that they couldn’t locate them so I hopped in the awesome speed monster , my van, with Trailblazer and headed back to B site and on the way we picked them up walking down the road. YAYYY!!! Safe. Tired but safe. And a big thank you to the ladies who went back in the jungle!!!!

So back to the site and a well needed drink for Velma and Christine and some food. Thank you to the hares for the beautiful food provided and the cake from Clover!!!!

RETURNING MEMBER: Schnapps from Brisbane

Hashit: Eastern Promise

It was a fine evening, for a change, and the hens happily headed off up the barren and stony slope into the familiar comfort of the jungle trail.

Despite the recent bouts of tropical rains the trail was relatively dry with occasional stretches of marshy bits. Although there is so much clearing of the trees in this area the hash only traversed one denuded area but now with a large building, roads and street lamps. Then it was back unto a pleasant hilly trail through the jungle.

The several checks delayed the fit at the front and kept the hens together. The front runners did a good job laying the paper through for the slower runners and walkie talkies.

All ended up with wet and muddy feet in the last section before coming out down the stony slope.

Two new members were duly welcomed as were a returning member and two guests. However one guest was so keen to ‘down down’ her drink prematurely that it earned Eastern Promise the Hashit.

The Shout Up ended with food of a German flavour including meat balls, cold chicken, salads and spiced cookies.

Danke! Danke!

RUN NO: 2216
DATE: 8 FEB 2011 - CNY RUN
SITE: DIPLO
HARES: SARONG/TRAILBLAZER/READYMIX
FRONT HORN: MAGIC ROUNDABOUT BACK HORN: MINI MOUSE

Driving to Diplo site in the late afternoon, I was happy to see no dark clouds for a change.

At 5.15pm sharp the horn tooted and on we went following printed-paper. As usual for Diplo, we climbed down one of the steep hills into the jungle.

Soon someone already called ‘ checking from here’. As we just arrived at a crossing, JI Jane decided to go checking out the other trail. Unfortunately for her the ‘on ‘ paper was ahead, but she caught up with the rest of us very fast.

We passed one of the small waterfalls and then climbed up a steep hill, it was still very slippery here and there after all the rain. After that it was down and down and up and up and all the way you could either hear: head, trip, slippery or thorns (oh, did I forget anything).

Don’t ask about the other checks, no clue who actually found them and the whereabouts. The whole run led through fantastic landscape, we enjoyed the meandering streams and the lush vegetation.

Thank you Trailblazer & Sarong, it was a really great run.

During the shout up, it was Ready Mix and Alice in Wonderland who explained the tradition of the Yee Sang Salad. We all were able to toss this special salad, which symbolizes abundance, prosperity and good health and every one of us had a taste of it.

After a down- down for the hares, 3 new guests were introduced and we welcomed one new member (Laura). Sarah, Linda’s daughter sadly is leaving us to go back to University in Oz. Good Luck!!! Never Wrong celebrated her 300th run and Virginie her 50th. The hash shit was awarded to Jane for failing to sign in.

The Oriental Ladies put up a great Chinese New Year feast with duck, chicken, tofu and a variety of Dim Sum. The Mandarin Orange was not missing either. It was really yummy food, thanks so much.

RUN NO. 2215 - TANJ BUNUT KANAN 1 FEB 11

RUN NO. 2215
DATE: 1 FEB 2011
HARES: Legally Blond/Jo
SITE: Tanjung Bunut Kanan - Australia Day run

All - well some, of the ladies prayed that the day would be dry so that we could have a good run as the hares would have worked hard to give the coup a good workout before tucking into the Aussie tucker.

Alas, no sign of rain in sight although a bit overcast. I was glad as it was to be my first proper hash after my accident and I was only going to go round if it was not wet. JM Squeak promptly handed me the back horn and I took up the challenge. Off we went on the sound of front horn of Ryvita and up the hill towards the stream and into the usual in-trail. Pretty trails and it was not long before we had to wade through the stream, crossing it more than once - lost count. Up a few or was it lots of steep embankments which could only be accessed with pulling oneself up, and up. Readymix had caught up and wondered how I managed!

Ahead, I could hear the bells and soon caught up with Karin (on her 42nd jaunt through the jungle with the ladies hash before returning to NZ over the weekend), and Aunty Lynn having a good chat as they strolled through the jungle. We passed througth pretty trails with quite a few trips and on we trotted, till we got to the out with the sight of the pylon trail. On the ridge we had spotted some "Singha" and was told that a little Koala was perched there for one of the front runners to find. There was only one check which was found by Satu Lagi and I was too far behind to catch up. All out safely before it got dark.

We were greeted upon signing out with Australia Day jandals, a bookmark and collected some lucky draw tickets.

At the shoutup, we farewelled Karin and one guest - Jo was welcomed. No hashit was given and we were entertained by the Australian motley crew with their funny accent which I am not sure if everyone understood. Great giveaways were drawn with many lucky winners, and the night was not over before a chook raffle was drawn. The prize was actually a bbq pack, with rissoles, chicken pieces, some sausages..... yummy - Melissa being the lucky hasher. The great cocktail now almost a signature drink by possum must not be forgotten as well.

Thanks ladies for the great evening and food.

RUN NO. 2214 DST 25 JAN 2011

RUN NO. 2214
DATE: 25 JAN 2011
SITE: DST
HARES: MagicRoundabout/Smurf
New Members: McKat Kyle, Mc Heulwen Byford, & McTamsin Harris
Guests: McTiffany & McPatricia

Awards: Domestic McGoddess celebrated 200 runs

Returning Member: Bini McHutan

The Clan: McCheryl, McKaren, McPee Wee & McPossum

The tartan and Scottish flags were flying high as the Hens arrived for the Burns Birthday Bash Hash Run. The traffic chaos of the Precious Parking Lassies (or the Mc Mad Maids) was a hoot mon! Dancing 4WD’s is such fun to watch. With a further hoot and a toot from McTango, off the clan went into the slippy slidey trail. With a whoop and a holla we sloshed and slipped along the open path. A lovely wee babbling brook was crossed. Then a wee pond was found and a ‘ooo vampires don’t like water’ caused but a ripple. Ye Hairs! Yer fibbed aboot not much water! There were many a brown bum to be seen. Some good hacking had been done to help us find the way, although a possum was found wandering around at the bottom of a hill looking for paper. What a walker and talker checking? But no she was just trying to find the picture of Oor Rabbie Burns to get her reward – typical Scot!

The trail became dry and wandered through bamboo, moon-scape but no more hills to be had, apart from the long lazy climb through “Residential Folly”. A nice walk back to end the run. Checks were found without a worry and all the hens were out in good spirits.

McSqueak held the hoose to attention and the shout up began. Hares wearing very funny coloured clothing, Och! Twas the tartan, were cheered. New members were hailed and our Sassy Classy visitors were welcomed. A call for the Hashit loomed and McTrailblazer was arrested for not signing in but cunningly signing out and in on her return. A kind hearted Mc Magic Roundabout shared the gong. A quiet evening for the jokes but entertainment prevailed in the “Ode to the Haggis” and a frightening sight it twas. McSmurf wielding a parang over a haggis is one scary experience. The rest of the clan in various folds of tartan played the lip bagpipes with a salute to the beloved spirit. Those who thought they would get a wee dram for finding Robbie Burns in the jungle were sorely disappointed when they were offered poetry from The Baird to read. The lilt was just not as it intended but McMagic soon deciphered our birthday boy’s words.

With tasty buns (but alas no neeps) and shortbread washed down with some cheer the night descended with a jig or two from the lassies.
