RUN NO. 2166
DATE: 23 February 2010
SITE: Diplo - Chinese New Year/National Day run
HARES: Trailblazer/Sarong/Ready Mix

Diplo is a great site as it always has great hills for a really good workout. So when I saw the Hares statement about the run; ‘only one notable hill’…..I was suspicious. So when the horn sounded at 5.15 we all wandered off into the jungle. When we reached a rather large hill, I thought to myself….arhhhh, this must be the notable hill, that was until we reached another hill and another and another. My legs were hurting like crazy, but I loved the run anyway…...I felt like I really deserved the drink when I got back to the tent.

Most of the checks during the run were found fairly easily (all by Satu Lagi...I think?), except one check where the ‘on paper’ was found but it was going both ways, so we must have done a short-cut somehow. It was easily rectified, hares went both ways until they found which was the correct direction, and then off we ran along the trail…..up more hills!!

I was out of jungle before light faded, but as the night started to draw in, it become apparent that there were several hens still walking the trail. Most came out before 7pm, but Glamour and Veronica were still in there, so the Hares got their walking gear back on, put some water in a rucksack, grabbed the lights and trekked back in to help them out.

It was starting to get late, so we had a short shout up, before we tucked in to absolutely fantastic food which was laid on by the ‘china dolls’. It was lovely, especially the roast chicken and duck..yum yum.

I left about 8 o’clock and the hares were still in the jungle, so I didn’t get a chance to thank them all personally for such a wonderful run and such lovely food, so thank you.

A handful of hens gathered at the Rimba site, looking carefully for correct start for the run being wary that the last time a run was set at Rimba we had started back to front and hence had not found any checks! We took off down the road but had a look at a small sign which pointed the wrong way, but no paper was in sight. We quickly popped into the jungle and we wound around and about for a while on pretty trails and it was pleasant to be in the jungle rather than through half built houses and half built roads.

A few gentle ups and downs, and we were soon out at the back of the tent which had by now been decorated by the hares. We had been told to look out for hearts in the jungle although not all were lucky ones. Once everyone settled down JM Ruthless Pursuit got proceedings underway and many a pose were staged for hashflash. Gifts were distributed by the hares, and everyone thanked including the hares for samosas that were piping hot.

Hashit was given to Aunty Lynn who thought she had prepped her neice well for the shout up, but alas she was dying for her drink and concensus was that the "ill mannered" practice warranted her sponsor the hashit. It was taken in good spirit as Aunty Lynn sat in a trash can to pay for her sin but when all was calm, the other two contenders in matching ts got a bit wet as well.

A good evening although a few rushed off to parties, and more CNY open houses.

Tuesday night and all is right as the tent is at the site and all the hens are gathering for flight!!

5-15pm the front horn toots and off we all trot/run along a lovely dry track past the fence - Karin was late and had run onto the track when she realised she hadn't signed in so she had to run back to the tent and then try and catch up with us.
Last seen with Catherine and the 2 dogs!!

There were some lovely gentle inclines to get up and a couple of streams - I tried to leap over the short distance trying to avoid the water but fell and after that when we got to the log crossing, managed to sink my feet into the smelly mud as well!! Me and water not a good combination!!!

The hens were busy looking for the "memento cards" which Alison had told us about last week - take only 1 or get the Hashit was her message! Everyone found 1 or 2 or 3 and tried to offload them to those who hadn't seen them hanging in the trees, on the fence line and on the ground for fear of getting the Hashit!!!

We followed the paper all the way along a lovely leaf strewn path till we got down to the barrier near the Empire - ye gads!! the paper had ran out and hens were wandering up and down the nearby area trying to find the paper!!

Had we taken a wrong turn or had the experienced hares run out of paper??!

Suddenly someone shouted out this is an A to B run!! don't worry!! and five minutes later, a bus came towards us with Alison and Cheryl dressed up in their lovely 1950's outfits. To get on the bus and be marked off by Alison and Cheryl, now was the time to surrender the "memento card"! it was so nice to get on the bus and have a cool drink! Well done to Glamour and Veronica also for doing the whole run and getting on the bus!!! Some of the hens decided to run back to the site rather than go back in luxury!!

The bus driver stopped on the way back and let Eastern Promise out so she could collect the 2 roadside signs and then it was time to relax and have a delicious red potent cocktail prepared by the Hares.

The shout up started and the Hares were given a down down and thanked for a great run.

First time guests, Vanessa from NZ and Jette from Denmark were introduced and welcomed.

A few announcements were made - Christine selling her book called "Dogs" and she also donated several to the Animal Shelter to sell. Dizzy reminded everyone of the Guitar and Flute performance on at The Orchid Hotel this Friday night and Not Yet wanted to offer a friend's rubbish collection business for urgent sale.

Bella got up and thanked the Hash for the beautiful flowers she received recently for a family bereavement and all the kind cards and thoughts while she was away in Oz and she also had some kittens to give away free.

Alice in Wonderland invited everyone to an Open House for Chinese New Year on 1st day on Sunday 14th at her place - Simpang 558 at Jalan Berakas.

Sigi was up and ready to give away the Hashit and Madam Sin got the hashit as her mobile rang (she tried to plead her case that she was actually not at the hash as she had not signed in/out) - she was duly christened and took her punishment like the good sport she is!. Someone at the back of the group tried to start a rumour that Pee Wee's mobile had gone off during the shout up but it was a false rumour!!! (Glamour took a call but was forgiven as her mother -in-law was in hospital - Condolence to Glamour and her family as M-I-L passed away that evening aged 102)

The Hares played some music from the 1950's and gave away lots of spot prizes - all related to Old Age (i.e. over 60!!) Lots of laughs over the gifts of walking sticks, disposable razors, steradent tablets for cleaning dentures, daily pill box holders, plasters, hair thickening solutions, anti ageing creams, magnifying glasses, lavender face masks, lady Grey teabags, medicated powder for those itches, reading glasses, foot stockettes, etc.

Thank you Hares for the gifts which were very well received.

Alison and Sue presented a gift to Cheryl celebrating her 60th birthday - what do you buy someone who has everything? A Peter Pecker blow up headband of course!. Cheryl was delighted and blew up the present and wore it for us to admire for the rest of the evening.

A delicious supper of salad rolls with chocolates and birthday cake was provided by the Hares.

One of the best runs and evenings for sure!!! The hard core sang their hearts out to the music way into the night as they admired the wonderful starlit skies and tried to identify Orion's Belt.

Thanks again Hares.
On On,
Speedo.

RUN NO. 2163
DATE: 2 FEB 2010

FRONT HORN: Magic Roundabout BACK HORN: Squeak

As I am the only able bodied hasher out of our usual threesome, it’s obviously my turn to do the words. Actually, I think it was my turn anyway!

A small gathering of only about 25 hens took up residence at the now extremely familiar Rimba site, this being our second time here in 3 weeks. Magic Roundabout blew the horn and led us down the back road towards the Amedeo ruins. Is this to be the reverse of two weeks ago? The one with no checks. At the end of the houses, we wend our way up to the right, still seeing remnants of old paper as well as new. The trail passes through lots of trippy bracken until suddenly, the paper disappears! There isn’t any paper pile, so it can’t be a check. Hens scatter to find paper again and find it going both ways. Now things are really getting confusing. Hens are saying, we must be doing the hash backwards and gone in the out trail – but in that case, the hares shouldn’t have laid paper all the way out.

We decide to follow the paper right, but then we hit only old paper. At this point there are hens scattering in all directions – like headless chooks. The horn calls everyone back to the open sandy area. Somebody has spotted new paper, but it is very sparse. Then, as we are going through lots of long grass, we spy a check – the very first to be seen (by me anyway). It seems this is first check and because we have all gone in the wrong way, we are now nearly out. Call Girl said she had been trying to tell the front horn there was paper leading towards the roundabout, but … So we reached the roundabout and on out. Today was a case of going in the out and out the in.

The 3 hares were duly given their down down, but not before a major photo shoot. JM Ruthless Pursuit was almost yawning, waiting for the proceedings to be able to continue. The hares were so busy posing, they nearly forgot to drink on cue. Not Yet celebrated her special award of 500 runs. She said she had actually done her 500th run last year, but she had been not yet ready to celebrate it. She flashed an opal necklace from Oz as her reward, but could not yet remember who introduced her all those years ago. Speedo gave us a belated Aussie Day joke about a koala, lizard and crocodile. Alison announced that the signs for next week would not be on the highway coming off Tungku, which spurred lots of discussion about laying of signs. Bini Hutan was very keen to rid herself of the honour of being hashit holder, but was disappointed to find no takers.

Thank you hares for the back to front run and the delicious chicken curry and rice, but remember not to lay paper all the way through until after 5.15 pm.

FRONT HORN: Mad Margz BACK HORN: Velma

I cannot remember all the details of last week’s run. But I clearly remember that it was NICE and, EASY although I am not very sure about some of the EASY bits. We all set off in Green and Yellow attire as requested, in the direction of the Empire Hotel. The weather was great and sea breeze through the pine trees was most welcome. As it was the Australia run some of us had high hopes that there might be an Ausie cocktail waiting for us at the hotel. Miss Pink though, moved with great ease as in anticipation of what lay ahead (she does not take cocktails) she surprised a few hens as she overtook them. I had difficulties trying to keep pace with her; luckily there were no hills.

Soon it was checking time and we all gathered as a few hens checked around. Checks are designed in order to allow every one to catch up with the fast runners. However, Wina had her own idea. She decided that it was time to read the enticing recipe in the Words, “Ginger Chicken.”

“4 Chicken Breast,

1 thumb size piece of ginger”, she went on as we listened.

“On on ahead” was that Mad Marg? I am not sure but someone called anyway. We continued out in the open, away from the pine trees and on the beach, towards the hotel on a flat trail. And once more we found ourselves checking again. Certainly, Legally Blond, (I think it was her) had high hopes that we would end up at the hotel as she went on ahead checking very close to the hotel. But alas! The on on trail was in quite the opposite direction. Much to our dismay we were confronted with a ridge of rocks which broke the thundering waves from the incoming tide. This was a big challenge especially for the older hens whose knee joints had began to cause concern. However, we all clambered over them, a few of us with help from Sarong. It was at this point that the front runners disappeared from the walkie talkies’ sight. Back on the trail once more we enjoyed the evening breeze from the sea, cool and very romantic. But this did not last as we were once more faced with rock climbing. I got on top of one of the rocky point only to be faced with a steep drop into the incoming tide below. As I tried to climb down Velma and the rest of the hares behind me suggested that we take the easy way and avoid broken limbs.

We all arrived safely to a cocktail even though it wasn’t at the Empire Hotel. Lots of snacks and dips were served by Possum.

At the shout out the hares were given their down down and there were two guests. Everyone was well behaved and so no one got the hashit.

The Ausie contingent put on some owe-some grub of Hotdogs and salad followed by Lamingtons mm. Thanks all it was a wonderful night.

Thank you for the nice flat run Hares!

On on!

Another Tuesday night under the Borneian skies. No rain? That’s a change. A familiar site with familiar trails. Nice steady running, no hills to get too excited about and no checks for a change.

There were more signs of bulldozing and Rentis lines in the jungle signaling one more area about to be flattened beyond the reach of hashers forever.

The run was short and sweet with the front runners out in half and hour and the rest of the walkie talkies out long before sundown. Through the familiar Amedeo housing site that we hear is about to be finally worked upon and perhaps finished after languishing and rotting away for the last few years.

The shout up commenced with a down down for the hares. What! Not one ‘adds’ in sight (Adds being predictive text jargon in Brunei, you figure it out!)

One new guest was honoured. What !! Another non adds drinker. What is the hashing world coming to ?, and a German to boot, shame, shame. Not only did she not drink adds she was the invisible woman, not having been introduced to the JMs - Who bought her along and why was she here and who took her into the jungle?. All was revealed. She was staying with Gaby, who was a hare, and she did the run with Bini Hutan who has been away so long she had forgotten the rules. She subsequently was punished hashing style later on in the evening and had the pleasure of minding 2 chickens for the next few weeks or until another transgresser can be found to pass them on too.

The evening progressed in typical hashing style with a lot of chitchat, backchat and ribaldry.

Announcements were called for and Not Yet said Not Yet, she had an announcement but it was not yet the time to announce. Finally Not Yet got it out --- New Years Greetings from Rosemary Norrish and Rosemary Moten, 2 old Brunei hashers with many years hashing in Brunei under their belts.

What else, Yes Dizzy is back, Glamour is very happy to be back after spending many very cold weeks in New Delhi. 12 degrees during the day, and 3 degrees at night. She said her electric blanket saved her life.Congratulations to her husband who was awarded a very prestigious medal from the Indian Government for many years service to Indian nationals in Brunei

Speedo told a very funny joke involving a girl called Kevin!.

Very tasty samosas with a bitingly hot dip followed. Thanks Hares.

FRONT HORN: Pee Wee BACK HORN: Squeak

Ah Mata Mata!! after 4 weeks away from Hash, was a bit worried about how I would go at doing this run!! too full of good cheer and fruit mince pies and no golf!!
Hens started gathering at 4-45pm under the tent and many Happy New Year greetings and hugs were exchanged.

Dead on 5-15pm the front horn Pee Wee ran off at full speed - I hung around the back of the group and set off at a leisurely trot chatting with Hot Lips about Christmas and New Year celebrations.

There was a short turn left and on up we ran along a well worn dry track - I thought that this would be a nice jaunt and followed Hot Lips for ages - Velma was behind me taking "Kodak Moments" as they were happening so we stopped a few times and "posed" for her.

The track wove its way up the hill and when we got to the top there was a great view from the right. On we went chatting not noticing the steepness of some of the hills!! After awhile, Diva yelled out "That's enough hills now!!!" but still there were more to conquer.By now, the chatting had stopped and all I could hear was heavy breathing behind me but am sure our sudden lack of chatter was a cover for our screaming thighs - surely our butts would have to be the trimmest in Brunei by now!! All I could think of was - the Hares have already done this same run so it can't be that bad!!! and how I wished I had not eaten that extra fruit mince pie on Christmas Day!!!

Finally, at long last we popped out along the top of another ridge and the view from the left side was spectacular. Mind you we were too knackered by now to really appreciate the view but hey thanks Hares!!!

Down we went and along for awhile, jumping over some muddy spots along the way and through some streams and then we came out of the jungle and along the road back to the tent and a very welcome 100+ and cold water!!

I never find out who finds those checks!!! Sorry about that!!! but you know who you are!!!

Everyone was safely out by 6pm and the sky was still blue and the day was still sunny so a lot of the hens got changed very quickly so the shout up could start. Some of the hens left early to go to the Nature Society talk and didn't stay for the shoutup.

JMs Diva and Ruthless Pursuit called all those present to order and wished everyone who had just returned from holidays a Happy New Year.
The 3 Bruneian Hares were given a down down for the great run.
There were 3 new guests but they had already left by the time the shout up started and 2 new members were welcomed as well as returning Hashers Gina, Amanda W and Dr Prawn.
There were 3 January birthday drinks shouted - Happy Birthday!!
Other announcements were : Things for sale for the Animal Shelter run by Rozi and Wina, St Andrew's Dinner coming up soon, The Learning Ladder Society is having a special sale to raise funds.

On a sad note, all the hens were asked to sign a condolence card for Aunty Lynn's Mother who passed away recently.

Hashit has a new owner!! Velma didn't sign out.
A delicious bring and share supper had been organised - it started raining quite heavily around 7-45pm so am sure the hardy ones stayed on!!!

On On,
Speedo and Gaby.

RUN NO. 2158
DATE: 29 DEC 09
SITE: SALAMBIGAR LINK
HARES: JANE/SARONG & VELMA
FRONT HORN: MAD MARG BACK HORN: EASTERN PROMISE

Having dropped off the sign-in sheet earlier, a few hens had just started gathering at the waterfall entrance frequently used by the public. Off I went home to get ready, and by the time I was back at the site, quite a number of hens were raring to go.

The hares had promised two runs with one short and a regular (not long) run. Off we went past some locals heading home out after probably a nice day by the waterfalls. We were going along some nice trails before the up and down and up and down started. We huffed and puffed and soon the sign for the short run that veered off to the right was sighted. Quite a few went on the short (including Back Horn) and the rest chugged slowly up the hill. Pretty trails with low levels at the waterfalls so no dramatic scenes were apparent although had it been wetter, the trails would have been much harder to master.

First check was found by Jessica and it was reported that Buster was useless and will now be confined to being a back sweeper rather than a front runner. Did not hear what happened at the other checks, although believe they were good ones as we caught up with the front runners a few time soon after checks. All were out not long after the hour, and it was noticeable that the days were beginning to get lighter. This should be the case now until June.

We then all adjourned to Jane’s abode and Diva was raring to go as JM and after introducing our three guests that were present, thank you's were given to the producers of the calendar, MadMarg, Kitchen Goddess and Pickled Lili.

Hashit was given to Tina K as her guest (who had rushed off to her duty on the airport control tower and so did not see her host getting doused). Tina tried to run away from Diva and hashit was well taken although a few of us remembered it was a while since – one xmas run at km 22.5 coastal highway some three years ago.

Fresh buns with a selection of fillings were served – thanks hares, and Jane handed a quiz sheet which had some interesting questions. This was won by Call Girls team and they got a box of Ferrero Rochers which they kindly shared around. Another great run laid by experienced hares. Thanks.

DATE: 22 DEC 2009
HARES: Never Wrong/Trailblazer/Leah/Magic Roundabout (absent on holiday)
HENS: 27 CHICKS: 4
FRONT HORN: Ryvita BACK HORN: Eastern Promise

Since I arrived at about the time the sign in board was being put away, the first part of the report relies on quotes from those who did arrive on time. The run took place on a warm, dry afternoon, unlike the last time we had been at the site on Founders Day, which saw many Hens slipping through the mud. The ladies kept on their feet and headed up hill for the start. The route incorporated lovely views and 2 checks. Both checks were found by returning hasher Running Bare who was visiting from Manila. It was great to see her back. The front runners would have enjoyed the company. The last 4 who went in went off paper and did their own thing it seems but all came out safely in the end. A good run. Many thanks.

The On On was at the poolside and started with Christmas cheer in a cup served by Santa at the resuscitation centre – how apt. It was certainly an evening for celebrating. There was a great range of festive food on offer. Thank you Never Wrong for cooking the turkey sponsored by the hash. Thanks to Trailblazer for coordinating that and to everyone for bringing something along. The hares in their Christmas T shirts (sponsored by Mr Wright) were thanked and we thanked Magic roundabout for the lovely cake that she donated as a lucky draw prize. This was won by Bunny Girl (although only because Tango was away or she would have won it!). A down down was given to Ryvita for so willingly taking on the role of front horn week after week and we welcomed Nellie’s daughter who was hashing for the third time. Apparently we are all mad in the nicest possible way. I am not sure anyone would argue with that! It was time to say farewell and good luck to Sarah who returns to Brisbane on Saturday. We wish her many more happy hashing days in the future. The best dressed awards for the evening were given to Bunny Girl, Possum and the highest award to the lady in the Christmas tree, Wina. As we ate and drank the evening away we had a visit from Santa who gave us all gifts from his secret sac or was that secret gifts from the Santa sac? We thank Santa for visiting us during this busy season and for allowing us to sit on his knee. There must be a few good shots there for another calendar. Bring on the New Year and another decade. On On.

RUN NO. 2156
DATE: 15 DECEMBER

HARES: Satu Lagi/Peahen/Claudia
HENS: 36 CHICKS: 4
FRONT HORN: Ryvita BACK HORN: Cheryl

4.52pm: I arrived on site, and wondered if I had the wrong place. Only 5 cars and no gaggle of hens catching up on events as usual. Oh, Christmas does take its toll. But by 5pm  the ranks had filled out. Hash baby was kitted up with the bells as this was to be her last run. Very appropriate as she jingled all the way.

The horn sounded and we were off, only to slow to a walk as we tackled the big hill in front of us. Finally at the top, and down we plunged all the way to the bottom moonscape and back into the jungle again. 1st check was called and took a while finding as we were short of  front hares. Finally found by Magic on the side track. Down to the bridge and there was 2nd check tucked in to the side. Ryvita and Claire hared it up the main trail only to return after a long search. As Smarty pants me said it could not be to the right as that was short and out Jessica was sent into a little ferny not well known track. Call Girl went up the right trail and On paper was found simultaneously by Jessica and Call Girl in different locations. Dilemma. Which way to go?, Which was correct.? We took the larger path and found both were correct. Jessica had cut the trail and found On paper too. Up onto the main ridge and another check. Poor Claire ( nice fast long legs) was sent off checking in the wrong direction again . On paper found by Isuzu, and out we went, through the windmill area, only no creaking windmills any more, and out we popped where we started. Down the hill again and we were home.

We had a more than usual number of the halt and lame with Miss Pink and Domestic Goddess taking it easy after their eye ops and Norma crippled with a huge caste. Not done hashing, only a mundane slip on the old bathroom floor.

Peahen asked if we had any encounters in the jungle and told us they had found a little pit viper while laying the run. Lucky we did not know as we plunged around blithely. Any sensible snake would be smart to get out of our way.
To a soft gaslit evening and thunder and lightening in the distance we settled down to the shout up.

One1ist time guest, Sarah from the Gold Coast who promised to come again. Hash baby got her certificate and framed photo to remind her of her hashing adventures in Brunei. She promptly downed her ‘adds’ Aussie style, straight down the hatch. We had 2 birthday girls, Domestic Goddess and Karen. We received our fabulous 2010 hash calendars. Thanks girls, good job.

RUN NO. 2155 - RIMBA 8 DEC 09

RUN NO. 2155
SITE: RIMBA
HARES: Sarong/Eastern Promise/Speedo
HENS: 32 CHICKS: 3
FRONT HORN: Suzi (with assistance from Readymix) BACK HORN: Hash Baby

After the previous week’s more than wetter run, it was a great relief that last Tuesday was dry. Rimba is becoming a favorite location for the hens – not that I am becoming any more familiar with its maze of trails. The instructions from the hares was to follow thin white paper and NOT thick white paper from the men’s 10k run the previous week. That noted, off we went up the road towards the roundabout and up the bank though plenty of long cutting grass…noice…. We crossed the open area and up into the jungle. 1st Check was called and found by Picked Lilli. We carried on for a little bit and came out into the open again and I’m thinking….okay this is going to be a swift run back, hope the greens are cold….but the paper takes us past the old workers hut and we go back into the jungle and get a good run.

Second check is in another open area, one I didn’t recognize. We all spread in various corners and Pickled Lilli found the on paper again pretty swiftly so off we all went to her and carried on only to find that the paper ran out….doooohhhh…it the wrong paper. So we are all back to checking and I found the on paper further up the open area on a rocky slope. We’re back in the jungle and I still don’t know where we’re heading. I’m with Alison and Sue and we come across third check on the trail. Most obvious thing to do….run ahead and that’s what Alison did and found the on paper just a little ahead. Or so we thought it was. The paper was the same colour, new but shorter, if a little damp. There was plenty laid and we guessed the hares just ran out of the longer paper. So on we went for another 5 minutes until the paper ran out again. By this stage it was close on to 6 and getting a little dark – time to call for real directions! Wrong paper yet again and it was actually a back check. So like the family on The Bear Hunt, Back through the forest! Stumble trip! Stumble trip! Stumble Trip And by this time it was becoming a big dark forest. Sue and Alison find the on paper and after following the trail for about ten minutes we find our way out to the back of the abandoned houses. Apart from the minor confusion with the papers it was a very enjoyable run and a good workout for everyone! And well done to Suzie as virgin front horn!

Back to the tent for a quick wash and the OnOn. With our two JMs away on their hols, the evening proceedings was handled by Bunny Girl. Firstly thanks to the hares followed by a welcome to our first time guest Aria – we hope to see you again – and a welcome back to returning member Jessica. Congratulations to Naj who officially celebrated her 500th run this evening. And we had a good poem and jokes about boobs and bits from Bunny Girl, Speedo and Wina. We were reminded of Secret Santa for the Christmas run – don’t forget if you are staying for the OnOn, please bring a wrapped gift of no less than B$10 in value.

We ended the evening with delicious briyani from what is becoming the favorite H3 Indian The Maharani - thank you Sarong! On…On!!!

RUN NO. 2154 - SPG791 JLN MUARA - 1 DEC 09

An array of head gear to keep the rain out at the signing in board keeping dry at the back of JM Diva's car.
Umbrellas galore

RUN NO. 2154
SITE: SPG 791 JLN MUARA - MORLEY MOVERS
HARES: Sid/Fiona & Beluga
FRONT HORN: Ruthless Pursuit
BACK HORN: Jane Woolley
NO CHECKS due to torrential rain all day
HENS: 28 CHICKS: 2

And the rain came down!! in buckets all day long!! was on the golf course and got rained off so knew that the Hash would be similar tonight.

Arrived at Morley Movers with Eastern Promise and no tent to huddle under!! Just lots of big black plastic bags of rubbish to look at!!! About 25 brave hens turned up standing under umbrellas, wearing wet weather ponchos and me with my shower cap over my headlight! waiting to sign on.

Too soon, it was 5-15pm and off ran Ryvita, her guest, Miss Tango and Ruthless Pursuit (front horn) up the hill past the water tower. We had been advised to go only to the top of the ridge as it was too wet and parts of the river was in full flow - go in for 30 mins and then turn around but if you you were by the waterfall before the 30 mins, take a look, admire it's churning and thunderous beauty and come back. (was this said? ed? That was not the message I passed on!)

The tracks were wet and slippery - it is the monsoon season in Brunei now!. we slithered our way down and Diva performed a few acrobatic stunts for us as she slid down the hill. I remember Diva doing exactly the same party trick at Tasek Lama on Founder's Day!

The few brave souls who ventured on to the waterfall had a good run through. Miss Tango and Ruthless Pursuit decided to forge their way through after the waterfall but eventually came back to where Diva, Ryvita, Ryvita's guest and myself were. We crawled over a long wet log and got to the other side of the waterfall.

Phone calls were made and rescuers came to our aid - Fiona and Sid came down and met us at the waterfall and guided us out. Thank goodness for our torches and mobile phones.

Miss Tango fell into the river just as we made out way out so she was soaked through right up to her neck.

I thought it was a superb run, pretty views and the little rivers of water to stamp our way through were refreshing and washed off the kilos of mud we had picked up sliding down like slalom skiers going from tree to tree - the noise at the waterfall was worth the run!!! - too bad about the weather though, what to do lah!!

For a change, the front runners came out last which really tickled my sense of humour!!! Still no tent had turned up so off everyone went to JM Diva's garage for the shout up.

Congratulations to Eastern Promise on her 500th run last night and next week the honour goes to Not Yet also celebrating her 500th run.

As the tent had not appeared by the time everyone was out, Trailblazer (jeopardising her friendship with Paul!) made a call to Diva's hubby seeking permission to adjourn to their garage.

After a concensus from the hares & Diva as to where we would have the shout up/meal - with food to be picked up enroute, directions taken as to how to get to Diva's place, most of the hens trooped off in convoy but which time a H3 sign had been placed by the roadside. We settled ourselves around the garage as Wina set up shop with xmas goodies she had prepared with Rozi to raise funds for the Animal Shelter. Certainly a flurry of activities as everyone tried to get dry, shopped and then the hares arrived with the food and shout-up began. We were all quite happy as Hash Baby had brought a bottle as she was clearing her cabinet before her final exit from the Abode of Peace.

Proceedings started with Never Wrong celebrating her 250th run. One guest was introduced, and Jane Woolley given a down down for following instructions about the run and came out on schedule. Hashit was given to the JMs for not practising what they asked the hens not to do, i.e. only go in for 30 mins due to the rain and the waterfall was too high to cross! Dizzy was quick in giving them a dousing with the nearby handy hose but the hashit was well taken.

Yummy dosai with sauces of varying degree of heat was served - thanks hares. It was quite an early night for all as the usual latenight stoppers had either gone on holiday or too busy to be around!

RUN NO. 2153 - RIMBA - 24 NOV 09

Watch out, JM has her hands on her hips!
The two JMs contemplating what to do next or are they scheming something.
The hares: Velma/Eastern Promise and Speedo

RUN NO. 2153
SITE: RIMBA
HARES: SPEEDO/EASTERN PROMISE & VELMA
HENS: 42 CHICKS: 2
FRONT HORN: RYVITA BACK HORN: TRAILBLAZER

It is difficult to recall all the twists and turns of the Tuesday’s hash after sampling the punch but as diligent hares we will do our best to provide an account of the evenings happenings.

We set off from Rimba along the road for a short way and then it was time for a quick right turn and the hash began properly. There was plenty of time for latecomers to catch up as first check took quite some time to find. Hens were walking and calling in all directions until the “On paper” call came.
Then it was all hashers going onwards and upwards not to mention downwards through the jungle. Rimba is always such an interesting site and no run there would be complete without meandering through the local Ghost Town. Just be sure to avoid all the big holes.

Quote of the week for the words came from Magic Roundabout who claimed, “There were so many rentis trails it was like New York city out there.”

A really good run. Thanks Speedo, Eastern Promise and Velma.

Diva and Ruthless Pursuit conducted their first shout up to an appreciative audience. Ruthless Pursuit showed her hashing prowess when she modestly explained that she had found all the checks. Maybe her name could be amended by removal of the “ruthless” as she was clearly in the lead and not pursuing anyone, in fact we were all pursuing her.

Front horn for the evening was Ryvita and Trailblazer brought up the rear with back horn. It was a special night for Sue and she celebrated in style. Many thanks for her punch which allowed us all to view the evening though a rosey glow. Sue was celebrating her 450th run and has used some of the money for shoes (high heels or crocs?) and was going to use the rest for a print for her boat.

Alas Monique was not present to be farewelled but rumor has it that a certificate will be passed to her. The shout up mentioned the animal shelter a lot and it is obviously an interest dear to many Hens’ hearts. Basically bring ,money and there will be opportunities to improve the life of the local Brunei animal population.
The Hens hash wouldn’t be the hens hash without a hashit and this week the lucky recipient was Melissa D who had failed to sign in. We’ve heard of not signing out but this is taking things to a whole new level.

RUN NO. 2152- TASEK LAMA (FOUNDERS DAY)

RUN NO. 2152
SITE: TASEK LAMA
DATE: 17 NOV 2009
HARES: Mismanagement
HENS: 56 CHICKS: 10

Tuesday 5-15pm again already!!! Tuesday seems to come around too quickly!!
The front horn blasted off at great speed up the hill and the rest of us tried to keep up - some of us just staggered up slowly up and up and up along with a lot of locals out for their daily exercise.

Their blank looks said it all - what were these crazy orangs doing????
We followed the white paper up the hill and then along a well used track - some of the hens collected the pretty pink and purple feathers hanging in the trees which had been threaded through the hash paper.

At the first oxygen break, we had a lovely view from the top of Bandar when we reached the ridge and had a breather, before heading down thinking this was an easy stroll until we hit a few high steps - just to make your calf muscles scream and prepare them for all the dancing to come later on.

After awhile, the walkie talkies realised they had gone off paper!! No checks on this run either my kind of run!!

Luckily for us, other hens coming from behind called us all back up the hill - retraced our steps and down we went with help from the ropes, slipping and sliding down. Whoops! Diva fell over on her arse leading us down so we all very carefully followed her down after that!.

Eventually,we were led onto the road and through the carpark and along the main road back to our starting point. All the hens quickly drank their 100 plus and bottle of water before dashing off to have a cool shower and dress up for the Founder's Day dinner.

Oh what a night!! The room had been decorated beautifully and the airconditioning was so lovely and cold!

JM Bunny Girl started off the evening's proceedings.

First time guests were introduced - Eleanor, Linda and Irene's Mum were all given a delicious cocktail for their down down. Thanks to Never Wrong for the delightful concoction!!! Very moorish but oh so potent!!

The November Birthday Babes were called up also for a down down.

Jenni was to be christened and known as Jenni From The Block but she wasn't there when Bunny Girl was calling her - still getting glammed up I think. Maybe it will happen next week!!

Hash Awards were given out: Best Entertainment Of the Year - Speedo's September joke, Miss Pink for telling lots of jokes, and Mad Marg for her entertainment during the year.

The Wettest Run Of The Year went to: Trailblazer, Readymix and Jenni From The Block.

The Muddiest Run went to Tiga and Magic Roundabout for their run at MDF in April.
The Best Hash Stunt Of The Year went to Pickled Lilli -dancing with the wasps/hornets at DST.
The Best Run Of The Year was a joint winner with Mad Marg, Dizzy and Legally Blond in March and sharing it with Alison, Cheryl and Sue for their October run.
The Hashit Award for the Year went to Callgirl - 5 times!!!
The Award for the most committed Hashers went to those Hens who ran in the 7 in 7 - Mad Marg, Miss Tango, Speedo and Eastern Promise.

The Best Fancy Dress was awarded jointly to The Cha Cha Girls and also to Alison, Cheryl and Sue.

The 2008/2009 Committee was called up - they were all given a down down for all their dedication and hard work and later on the 2009/2010 Committee was introduced.

Lots of singing like in a karoke bar also happened during the evening - a lucky prize draw for members and guests was held and lots of lucky winners won some beautiful donated gifts. Thanks to all the generous sponsors this year.
All members received a beautiful purple drinks bag along with a bum bag and a gorgeous sarong.

Thanks to Miss Tango for the music last night also.

JM Bunny Girl made her final announcements - 24th November is the start date for the new committee handover. A 2010 Calendar is on its way to all members also within the next couple of weeks - some finetuning still being done.

Pee Wee got up on behalf of all members and guests to thank Bunny Girl for being the solo JM (ably aided by Mad Marg) after Mrs Pingu had to step down and she was given a BIG down down and she sang her way out with a very funny video clip.

We also bid a fond farewell to Monique who is leaving to return to Oz on November 30th and wish her all the very best. Don't forget us Monique!!! Think of us hashing in the jungle every Tuesday!!!.
